Jesus was baptized, and so were all of the original apostles, and they were submerged in water. If, for whatever reason one can't be submerged in water, for medical issues or other true concerns, I believe God will know this, and understand. But, to just say - no I'm not doing it, is not following God's commands. Like saying the thief on the cross was not baptized and was saved, so I will do the same, does not honor God's command that we be baptized, and it is a mockery.
Jesus instructed his apostles to go out into the world and baptize:
Matthew 28:19 Context
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
If we believe in what Jesus states in this scripture, and much other scripture, yes we must be baptized.
After being born again by praying to receive Jesus; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
Go to the link on the red page: Become A Believer, and work through the Bible teaching on how to become a follower of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is your Comforter, your Helper, and Your Teacher. As you read scripture, every day, ask Him to help you to understand how it applies to you now. Start in the Gospels and head towards Revelation. Every time we read Revelation, we receive a blessing from the Lord. (Chapter 1) The book of Isaiah has many prophesies about Jesus. Before He came to earth to save His people (us). He promised_ he fulfilled each and everyone prophesy. We can have confidence that He will fulfill what has been set down and recorded.
He will draw close to YOU, if you will draw close to Him. If you sin (we all fail sometimes), read 1 John chapter 1, chapter 2:1-2, all of it truly.
1 John 3:11. We can't fellowship with sin anymore. It takes effort to cling to Jesus for our guidance. Find a BIBLE teaching Church; even if it's on the FM radio.

Ephesians 6 tells us who the real enemies are, to our walk with God. We all get opposed by the devils. Say what Jesus said, in the Gospels.
May the Lord bless you and keep you close to his vest, and keep you encouraged as you walk with Him.
Do you need Baptized in water after the Holy Ghost came the Bible says one baptism, guy you are opening a can of worms here there are more opinions on it then churches. The thief on the cross wasn't baptized and Jesus said to him, today I shall see you in paradise. But it's good to be baptized for the remission of sin and if you study it being fully submersed symbolizes being buried with Christ and rising with Christ and being a new creature. Use the search box type baptism, baptized and read it and study it 2 Corith 13:12 study to show thyself approved...............
Some of them (Hebrew people) were considering going back into the old religious system of the Old Testament.
3) There were also Hebrew unbelievers. These were those who were at these meetings, those who were in the crowd that just did not believe.
So if I understand these three groups, I can better understand some of the scriptures that are being presented. There are sections of scriptures to each one of these three groups in the book of Hebrews.
Now, all that to say this:
Hebrews 6:4-6 does not worry me at all. My relationship with Jesus Christ can never be broken. My fellowship with Him can be broken but never my relationship. A true believer, a person who is born of God's Spirit, cannot commit apostasy.
What I see in those three verses is the writer talking to those in group 1 and explaining to them the outcome of those in group 2 if they should walk away.
Now those in the 3rd group were non-believers who were following along but were never going to believe. They were probably there to watch and accuse those in group 2 who decided to identify with those in group 1 which would in turn cause them to be persecuted.
So what I see in Hebrews 6:4-6 is a group of people (Hebrew people) who were faced with a decision. Do I leave Judaism and receive Christ as my Savior. Or, do I walk away and go back into Judaism because of what it would cost me to surrender my life to Christ. For a Jewish person, this was a very difficult decision.
What the writer is saying is that after they have come to a full understanding of salvation through Christ, if they do not take the next step in turning from Judaism and surrendering their life to Him, but instead walk away because of what it would cost them, it is impossible for them to find salvation any other way.
If we were to put ourselves in the same position that these Jews were faced with, which of these three groups would we identify ourselves with?
I'll have to respond in a couple of posts. I believe this is important as some use this section of scripture to show that our salvation can be lost.
When I approach any book of the bible, I first have to understand who the book was written to and why it was written. Hebrews was written to the Hebrews, Jewish people. The letter was written to Hebrew Christians. But at the same time, as I go through the book, I see three different classes of people. So I have to understand it from a Jewish standpoint.
The Purpose of the Letter was to warn against apostasy during persecution. It's when believers suffer that believers consider to stop following Christ, or consider compromising in their walk with the Lord when things get tough. Now when I say believer, I also think this can be broken down into two classes, those who are saved, and those who are unsaved.
Now in order for me to understand the various passages and the various sections of Hebrews, I have to understand these three groups to whom it was written.
1) To Hebrew believers. (Saved believers)
2) To Hebrews who have an intellectual understanding of Christ but have not been saved, and they are considering going back to the religious system of Judaism because of the persecution for identifying with Hebrew believers. So these are Hebrews who understand what's being taught, and they intellectually agree with it, but they have never received Christ.
Chapter 10 tells us that after they identified with the Hebrew believers and they went home, their possessions were stolen. Their fellow Jews were kicking them out of the temples. And it would cause some of them to lose their jobs. Their friends would disown them.
So you can imagine a Jewish person, right at that place where they understand and they agree with it, but they haven't received Christ. But they have this persecution going on and they say "If I go all the way with this thing, this is what's going to happen. Everybody is going to disown me.
This sounds like someone who is a true believer "4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame."
I have worried about this scripture alot and how can someone be a partaker of the Holy Ghost and the powers of the world to come without being a true believer? I mean enlightened and tasting the Word of God could be people who are exposed to the truth but if they are partakers of the Holy Ghost doesn't that mean the Holy Spirit is in them?
Hebrews 6:4-6 is a section that many use to say you can lose your salvation. But it is not talking about losing salvation. Salvation cannot be lost. You have to understand that these were Hebrew/Jewish people who were following along with the believers and partaking in the teachings along with the believers. But they never were saved so there was no salvation to be lost.
Think about it this way. There are many people who pack our churches every Sunday. But not all who go to church are saved individuals. A person has to receive Christ and be born of His Spirit in order to be saved. Now, those individuals in the church who have never received Christ, they may look and act like believers, and yet be void of the indwelling Spirit in their lives.
You and I might think they are saved because they go to church and speak the lingo, and might even say amen on occasion but still never received Christ. So after many years of going to church, they had enough and walked away forever. Did they lose their salvation? No, they were never saved, to begin with.
That is the same thing we see in Hebrews chapter 6. Those Hebrew people were in with the crown and partaking of the same things the believers were partaking of, but they did not take that next step of surrendering their life to Christ. They were being enlightened to the truth, but an enlightened person does not mean they are a saved person. A person can be enlightened to the truth, and still, never receive Christ. They didn't surrender because of the persecution that they would have to go through if they denounced Judaism and received Christ as their Messiah.
So instead of surrendering their life to Christ, they turned away and went back into Judaism. It was much easier for them to do that than surrender to Christ. But they were never saved, so there was no salvation to be lost!
Hebrews 6:1-2 = The epistle writer identifies "the first principles" here in these verses which include the following:
+ "repentance from dead works" (v.1),
+ "faith toward GOD" (v.1),
+ "the Doctrine of baptism" (v.2),
+ "laying on of hands" (v.2),
+ the "resurrection of the dead" (v.2), and
+ of "eternal judgment" (v.2).
In the previous chapter (5:12), these "principles" are "first" (Greek noun root ; pronounced "ar-KHAY"), for all believers experience these "first principles" in Salvation.
The "first principles" are the "milk" (5:12-13) new convert Christian "babe(s)" require to sustain spiritual new life. The epistle writer metaphorically described those principles which follow the "first principles" as "strong meat" (5:14). Here, the verb "leaving" does not mean to forsake and abandon the "first principles", for these are "foundational".
As newborns grow in stature from "babes" into "them that are of full age" (5:14), so too do their nutritional demands increase from "milk" (5:13) to "strong meat".
The term "first" speaks of the basic, foundational principles, and from which more in-depth principles will follow. These principles which follow will require more spiritual insight and discernment.
This same rule applies to every individual Christian who strives for spiritual maturity and "perfection". "Leaving" means to build upon these "first principles" by pressing forward unto spiritual "perfection". Once the Christian convert achieves full understanding of the "first principles", he then strengthens these initial principles with more weightier, complex THEOlogical Doctrines.
In heb.6:4 to me sounds as if they who have tasted of the goodness & become apostate then that to me sounds like blasphemy of the holy spirit if they can no longer be or repent after once being enlightened and then they cannot go to heaven does that sound like apostacy is blasphemy not denying the woos of the holy spirit & never asking jesus to be their lord & savior, but having once being a believer in christ then denying everything that the holy spirit has revealed to a person & then becoming saved then to do a 180 & never being able to return to the goodness of god they once tasted , the holy spirit (heaven). that's the same punishment as a non believer & never coming to the knowledge of jesus christ & all he has to offer in this life & the next.
John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If ANY man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And WHOSOEVER will, let him take the water of life freely.
Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
God bless you, and I fully agree those who are saved and born-again of the Spirit. Have access in the New Covenant to come behind the veil as well, meaning heaven because of the ultimate price Jesus paid in full on the cross, and especially to those who will believe in Him.
Hebrews 6:19-21 A forunnner is a lil vessel or boat that carried the anchor and dropped it in shallow water so the ship can be firm. We are the big boat Christ is our forunnner that took our hope and anchored us in the holy of holies . When Christ was on the cross and he gave up the ghost of spirit the veil torn . The lord is the way the truth and the life . He anchored our hope hidden in him and only thru him . No matter what storms we face and no matter how rough the waves crash against us we are firm and secure in who we are in him amen.
You can have confidence in salvation, follow Jesus and be obedient at the same time. It's a false assumption to assume that just because the Bible is true about losing your salvation in Hebrews 10:26 that a Christ follow must live in fear? No, if you're following Christ in obedience you have freedom. Matthew 10:28, John 14:15, Matthew 12:31-32, Matthew 7:21. I believe what the Bible says. Hitler would go to heaven according to your once saved always saved belief.
If you choose to live in constant fear of losing your salvation every time you sin and struggle to "keep" yourself, I think you missed the point of resting in Christ. Paul said he did what he shouldn't do and did not do what he should do. According to your theology, Paul was not saved. In Christian love, I recommend you study more and use solid Christian resources. Green, Magee, Fruchtenbaum etc.
Steve have you ever heard and understood God's Plan of Salvation, are you Working out your Salvation not meaning Working for it. Have you put your Carnal fesh to death so you can be Perfected in God's Love and are you now Born Again of God's seed and no longer Sin. Does God knows every hair on your head and did He knew you before you were Born and knew everything you would say and do on earth.
God's Plan of Salvation Adam does not agree that we Continue to Sin when we are Born Again yes we all have free will so those who fall away were never Chosen by God's forknowelage to be Conformed into the image of Jesus. God knows if we will Choose Him or Satan He knows all things and He tells us He knows those who are His and not One of us will be lost, He Protects our Souls He knows our Hearts.
So this entire OSAS belief stands on misinterpreting that one verse while disregarding the numerous other Bible verses? You incorrectly assumed my beliefs on grace BTW. In your view if Christians are saved regardless why do you believe Jesus said to keep his commandments? What is your exact reason for being obedient if there's no incentive to do so and zero consequence for not? James 2:26 Have you prayed and asked God if your view is true? 2 Peter 2 says what happens to disobedient people including Christians who turn away (verse 21).
That is the false doctrine of Lordship Salvation. Saved by grace through faith WHAT? Is your sin greater than Jesus' ability to keep you? You cannot save yourself but yet you can keep yourself ? We are sealed until the day of our redemption. Ephesians Christians who sin all of us will be chastised but will NOT lose our salvation. Nor do we purposely sin as OSAS opponents always purport.STUDY
The hope of eternal life through Jesus's gift of salvation isn't revokable, but this verse doesn't mean it's individually permanent regardless of one's actions. Are you aware of other supporting verses supporting this belief? There's a mountain of verses supporting that Christians have freewill and need to follow Jesus. If you turn from Jesus and commit blasphemy a Christian risks going to hell- black and white in the Bible. Since Satan is the father of lies and since there is only 1 truth, which belief is satan more like spreading: that Christians should follow Jesus and be obedient for hope of eternal life - or - that Christians don't have to obey or follow Jesus whatsoever and can indulge in the sin of this world with zero consequences and still go to heaven? MATTHEW 10:28
Hi Adam, Of course Christians sin and disobey, I was speaking of salvation--not sin or disobedience. Are you suggesting that the Holy Spirit is weaker in a Christian than Satan's power? Born again Christians are bought with a price and belong to Christ. Are WE capable of forcing him to disown us? The gift of salvation is irrevocable, as are all God's gifts. Romans 11:29 OSAS
Hi Richard, do you have a Bible verse that backs up the idea that a Christian is incapable of blasphemy or incapable of sin? Do you not believe Christians have freewill to sin like non-Christians? Even angels in heaven still had freewill to rebel from God and be cast out of heaven, so why not believe a Christian on earth has the same freewill? If Christians can't commit blasphemy then why were Christians told in the Bible not to? If Christians can't disobey then why are they told to keep commandments? John 14:15
Born again Christians, in whom dwells the holy spirit, are incapable of blasphemy of the spirit. Additionally, Christ's reference to those who "he never knew" is not in reference to those who have truly believed and are saved. Once you are saved, that salvation is sealed. Satan cannot overcome that. Modern day cults who claim to be Christians should take heed-not truly born again Christians. OSAS
According to Matthew 12:31-32 if a Christian chooses to blaspheme the holy spirit they absolutely will not be forgiven. Even angels already in heaven still had the freewill to rebel against God. Humans on Earth including Christians absolutely still have freewill and sadly do turn and denounce Jesus and commit blasphemy. The Bible is crystal clear those Christians will not be saved. Matthew 7:21.
