Isaiah Chapter 48 Discussion

Verse 22-Those who set their own standards of right and wrong and do wicked things will not enjoy true peace.
  • Richard H Priday on Isaiah 48 - 2 years ago
The obstinance of those of the "house of Jacob" known as Israel is much as the Pharisees in the New Testament; they were deaf to His Truth; and obstinate (v. 4) Idol worship is implied in this section as well (v. 5) which never helps in any understanding of the truth. God; as always keeps from total destruction and will refine His people for His own sake (v. 9-11). This was the case in Isaiah's time with the nation of Babylon and certainly will be the case in the time of Jacob's trouble in the Tribulation in the future ( Jeremiah 30:7).

God's role in Creation is in the following two verses; and verses 14 to 15 reiterate the theme also from Jeremiah that God was using other nations to judge Israel and indeed shows favor so that their invasion is ensured to succeed in His timing. Then verse 16 talks about God and states "and now the Lord God; and His Spirit hath sent me." This shows the whole Godhead; with Christ being the one sent. Verse 17 shows God leading Israel; even when they are in exile He still is there and they are to return back after 70 years. Verse 18 reminds us of Christ when He said that as little birds He would have led them but they refused; they didn't know the day of their visitation. The multiplying of the nation according to verse 19 would have been quicker had they remained obedient. God promises provision in their diaspora (verse 20-21); which could also refer to the time He protects them in the wilderness in Revelation for 1260 days. Finally; the last verse indicates that there is no peace for the wicked; which is repeated in Isaiah 57:21; and similar themes in Psalms and elsewhere.

There are probably other related portions in Scripture, but the first one, the more familiar one, is found in 2 Chronicles 1:1-12 (the whole account) & particularly verses 9-12. I love that portion which ever reminds me that desiring wealth, a long life or even retribution on those who hate you are not the sort of things that a true servant of God should seek. But to have wisdom (i.e. to act wisely on the things that God has put into your mind, your heart, your life) is preeminent. So Solomon not only delighted God's Heart in his request for wisdom to judge God's people righteously, but also God also gave him those things that he didn't ask for, the things Solomon considered least important.

So the New Testament counterpart of this Truth is in Matthew 6:33: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." And James 1:5: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

God has many names. My favorite is the "I AM" . The particular person is The Father , and the Son. These two being one, together in the creation of the universe, while at the same time creating the Holy spirit , which returns to man through faith in the redemption of the Father and the Son . Being revealed through the Word. The word was made flesh and dwelt among us. John;3;16 His only begotten Son . Begotten from all eternity. We can have this same unity of love, given through Christs sacrifice "ATONEMENT".

Above, they and we also, considered ourselves of GOD and for GOD, BUT our CREATOR knowing our heart, HE again had or have to sit them and us down and plead with both of us. Both they above and we today was not deserving of HIS blessing nevertheless where applicable GOD blessed and blessed both, and both have been very unappreciative of the thousands of HIS blessing where applicable. I was the blind leader of the unthankful pack until I applied John 3:16-21 and now by the POWER OF GOD I can see, and thankful for SALVATION, life, sunshine, rain, corn bread on the table, 2-pair shoes, not being mean and angry, protection from dangers seen and unseen. Thank GOD for MERCY and John 3:16-21.

Now is the appropriate time to turn to God. Beware the haughty who accuse with back-biting, trash talking, mud slinging, hatred, vengeance retribution.Their tongues are vile, for they curse their brothers sisters, fathers mothers then proudly say 'I am righteous!' These will see feel in pain their own tongues dance in flames but not ever be consumed. TEST ALL YOU HEAR TURN TO GOD!

JOHN 2 months ago you asked what is GOD's name? I think I have found what GOD calls HIMSELF . Read Exodus 3:14 kjb JESUS even called HIMSELF by the same name, when HE said I AM the bread of life. I PRAY this helps my Brother! I'm looking forward to knowing you better when WE get HOME !! ~~~~<*))))><

The Lord's Name is really Jesus! Yeshua, Saviour, Yehovah will save. Christ is the Anglicized pronunciation of the Greek Xristos, or, Christos; meaning Anointed, Moshiach. Every Book of the Bible has a certain aspect of Christ depicted; and the thing aimed at, the full acomplishment of the Law and the Prophets, and the Psalms and Holy Writings, IS JESUS CHRIST COME IN THE FLESH, SAVIOUR AND KING!
  • John on Isaiah 48 - 6 years ago
I have a question for this comment. What is the name of the Lord? Is it Just the name Jesus? Or does the Bible describe in detail what His Name really is? God bless.
  • A disciple on Isaiah 48 - 6 years ago
Steve Morrow; Great Scriptures! But do you know who the LORD was referring to? He was speaking to the disobedient and the defiantly hateful and hostile ones; NOT to His beloved Elect who seek to please Him with every thought word and deed, and to walk in truth and holiness before Him IN JESUS' NAME! Seeking to be holy and obedient, and preaching to others to do the same, is not of the devil!

Feel God is talking direct to me (and Israel), "Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel", and "hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:". There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked--and I know I have sinned and why my peace has left me! I continue to try because I LOVE THE LORD MY GOD.
  • John on Isaiah 48 - 8 years ago
God talks to everyone with a small voice and all you have to do is listen to what he has to say. the thing is do you listen?
  • Lucinda Palestrant on Isaiah 48 - 8 years ago
Romans 10:18 "But I say; Have they not heard? Yes, verily their sound went Into all the earth and their words unto the ends of the world." The "sound" "their words" is telling the gospel of Christ. Some false teachers say everyone has not heard the gospel. God says everyone has heard it.
  • Lucinda Palestrant on Isaiah 48 - 8 years ago
Read Isaiah 48:1-19very carefully;can you see that God is telling us;every person"from the beginning" has had the knowledge of the gospel given to him. This knowledge does not have to come from a preacher, or even a book.(a believer is commanded to spread the good news, and read, i do not speak against this.)He has testified of everything he has spoken, since the beginning. We rebelled, did not hear

  • Ish on Isaiah 48:13 - 9 years ago
Just recently the New Horizon spaceship took a 9 year, 3 billion mile journey to the planet Pluto, traveling at 34,000mph. That entire journey took place somewhere in GOD! Putting that journey in the frame or man's understanding, can you even begin to imagine the eternity of the existance of Our God? No! God is immense, vast, immeasurable, bondless, measureless, infinite, unbounded, illimitable. In 1Kings 8:27, it is written that the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him. There are about 200billion stars in just the Milky Way galaxy, the sun being just one star. There is an estimate of more than 100billion galaxies in the universe. So I guess that Our God should be able to handle our earthly situations which seem to us to be so monstrous. Those of us who do, must stop trying to put God in a box. He who created the earth by his power, established the world by his wisdom, and stretched out the heavens at his discretion, is more that qualified and able to handle anything Satan throws at us. After all," All things were made by him and without him was not any thing made that was made".
  • Lilian on Isaiah 48 - 9 years ago
Our God is a forgiving God, John 3:16 For God so love the World that He gave his only begotten Son Jesus Christ that whoever believes in him will not be perish but have everlasting life. God loves us so much and thanks to Jesus for his precious blood that shed for us, his blood is a symbol for his mercy and love to us. We are now saved and pardoned by God 's grace. We must accept God into our life and obey his commandments until rapture. Jesus loves us so much and he is faithful to his promises. We must follow and live like Jesus we shall walk with faith and not by sight. Life without God we cant do anything

  • Nancy Hanberry on Isaiah 48:20 - 10 years ago
I think that Godisreally speaking to his people about how He will lead them. We don 't have to worry about how or what to do. God is saying to us to have faith that he has already redeemed us, He is handling it.

This is the Son speaking here, not God. "Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called I am he I am the first, I also am the last. Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens when I call unto them, they stand up together. All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. I, even I, have spoken yea, I have called him I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. Come ye near unto me, hear ye this I have not spoken in secret from the beginning from the time that it was, there am I and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
