King James spoke Scottish Gaelic (Gaidhlig)as a first language, because he was a Scottish King and a Highlander Chief, and in Hebrew the word for "Grave" (Abode of the Dead) is Seol. In Gaidhlig, there is a similar sounding word which means to plant, to place, to put, to go on a journey, to sail (Seol). This would include to plant in the ground (as in a tree) or to put in a grave, or to travel on a journey (as the soul would, after Death (except the Gaelic word is a verb, not a noun). So, on a play of words, the Hebrew Seol was kept, and because, in Gaelic, you cannot begin a word with the letter H, Seol was lenited into Sheol (changes meaning from "put" to "to put" or "put" in the past tense) as in, to make (or have made) someone to have a "dirt nap" or go on a "Long Journey" (never coming back, dead!)

The joke or pun is, Sheol in Gaelic actually sounds like the English word Hell, and that's the whole idea...

Thank you Chris. Once I read this I have been searching to find an answer. I found this site & prayed someone could help me. I appreciate you responding. God bless you.
  • Chris - In Reply on Isaiah 5:14 - 3 years ago
Hello Patricia. In that passage, the English word "hell", is "sheol" in Hebrew. And 'sheol' is a feminine noun, hence the use of 'herself & her'. I think some other translations just use 'it', but the KJV stays with the Hebrew grammar.

HI. i approve of the way you answered the above question on astrology. Not that you need my approval but it draws me to you to ask a question. i am being oppressed by spiritual forces. i hear voices. The bible refers to them as serpents. i believe they are dark fallen angels. The holy spirit is working in me and has convinced me of alot of sins. i am trying to draw nigh to him, so he will draw nigh to me, I have fibromyalgia. the level of anxiety i have is very high . i read the bible day and night to learn what to do and what not to do... my question is this... sometimes i drink a small bottle of fireball alcohol to settle my nerves. the bottle is the small ones they sell at the liquor store. it is 35% alcohol by volume. The references in the bible i am currently studying are isaiah 5: 11 and 5: 22 as well as 1 timothy 5:23 . There are also a few others (one makes a reference to fermentation). In isaiah 5:11 it says (strong drink) which states in the KJV study bible at the bottom that strong drink refers to fermented drink. It states woe unto them that wake up in the morning and continue until night. On isaiah 5:22 it makes a second reference to men of strength to mingle strong drink. (fermented). My understanding is that an alcohol above a certain alcohol content no longer contains fermentation. Psalm 75:8 i see as well but dont understand. My question is do you think me drinking one of those ( it wont get me drunk) in the evening is a sin? So long as i dont get drunk? I mean not to do wrong here or to test GOD. My pain is high as well from fibro though. a second ? i have Also i have been going over Gods healing as well and have learned much there. 1st ref james 5:14,15,16. More ref: Lev16-29 Lev:17:5-7. Ex: 30:33 Lev:78: 20-27 and Lev 20: 17,18. Any insight on the second question i would welcome. Thank you.

Patrick, astrology is 'frowned upon', as by definition, it is the study that assumes and attempts to interpret the influence of the heavenly bodies on human affairs. Man has for eons wanted to have some assistance to forecast the future for himself & the world he lives in, & without the help from the Bible & having faith in a trustworthy, all-powerful God, he has chosen to look to the heavens for signs. This has never worked though helps relieve some short-lived uncertainty to the seeker.

I've read the Bible through and have yet to find the 'science' of astrology in there and helpful to me in understanding myself & my world, both present & future. Only God's Word, without the need of heavenly bodies, discerns our heart, thoughts, & gives us a hope for this life & that to come. True, there are various references to the stars in the Bible (e.g. Amos 5:8, Job 9:7-10; 38:31, 32), but these are referred to as their constellations which God has set in the heavens, but not for the purpose of them directing the affairs of men.

If you're interested (& I don't give full assent to it), there a short study on this by Perry Stone. Once in his Manna-Fest window, find the Topic: The Enoch Cipher and the future cosmic signs of Christ's Return. Here he gives the connection between the specific setting of the constellations and Israel's tribal structure & other details. But even here, the 'science' of astrology & astronomy are vastly different.
  • ASTROLOGY KILLS - In Reply on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
I used to think that too, when I was young and troubled. Never occurred to me to look in a Bible for advise.

I studied and was selling people on my CRAFT.

Then someone showed me I had a death sentence on my life for doing it. I was born again. Believe it when I say, demons don't want to let you go. You're only a walking advertisement for Satan. All those people who live their days reading it, will go to hell if they don't repent and turn to Jesus for help getting out of it.

Also, it's a Curse on the Children of deceived parents.

God made ALL of the stars, planets and geometry.

You need to do a scripture search on words like: stars, astrologers, sorcerers, prognosticators, worship of stars. DEATH SENTENCE.

Buy a Bible. It will save your soul.

Hi Mishael, I have only heard this song sung by our little Christian School nearby. It has been at least three or more years already. Thankfully I asked for a copy at the time. I will when I can look up the song you mentioned and give it a listen!

I feel the Holy Spirit drawing near to our discussion. If we let Him, he will make us more alike.

    :)
  • Carleton - In Reply on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
Thanks Mishael! It seems most people who we interact with here are all ready familiar with the scriptures.

    Ephesians Chapter 6:12

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, agaist spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand.

    14 Stand therefore , having your loins girt about with the truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the gospel of peace.

    1 Thessalonians 5:8

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helment of salvation.

These scriptures are the faith delivered to the hearts of Jesus Children (like the song), we and I are His little lambs and we will not fight carnal battles here in earth, we will fight spiritual battles even in our own flesh, yet with this Breastplate of Love and faith we are prepared in preparation for the Gospel of Peace.

This battle must be fought in love and peace until the end, without carnal weapons until the end.

Be Brave, trust the True Shepard. Sing songs, if we die physically or lose our material possessions or suffer violence in the flesh while maintaining this Gospel of Peace, so be it.

    Carleton:

That's probably a great song to listen to. I love the lyrics. Thanks for sharing. It made me think of this song I listen to often, that's similar.

Go on YouTube and listen to 'Peace Prayer' by John Michael Talbot. He's a monk that sings Psalms mostly.

He was a Methodist but he for whatever reason became Catholic. I haven't heard his whole testimony; just pieces.

His brother, Terry Talbot sings a song named: I Saw Him, you have to hear too. It's about the Roman centurion who crucified the Lord. It will make you cry.
  • Spiritual Warfare and Heaven in your home - In Reply on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
The breastplate is the righteousness of God in Christ. Can't fight spiritual warfare in our own righteousness. Occult & witchcraft and sorcery demons are scary. Do not read stupid horoscopes... they use that for doors inside.

Some pastors on google have written some helpful mini sermons. Gather and compare to your Bible.

Your SWORD is scriptures you can preface with: IT IS WRITTEN:

The blood of the Lamb scriptures are the one thing that makes them flee. They will not step over Jesus's Blood.

I was rescued out of the occult; you gotta memorize those scriptures. Speak it out.

Look in the Book of Revelation.

Familiar Spirits are demons from ancestors that practiced some kind of occult; even quija boards. All kinds of known or unknown evil. They use that to trick and torment present day Family. Family demons. Use the right names from the Bible.

Alcohol, pills, dope, opioids, heroin, alcohol

    etc are Bondage demons; sorcery.

Their aim is death. Get knowledge.

Ephesians 6: it's weird to fight something invisible...but some can manifest by holding your eyelids shut, hold you down and your mouth, so you can't speak scripture.

Remember that Jesus can hear you screaming the blood of Jesus with your MIND. He will send angels to release you immediately!

Satans thugs don't have Authority to do those things. Know Your Authority in Jesus.

Go listen to some Charles Capps on Youtube.

We can ask God to send angels, to guard the house, the kids, the car. We do not tell the angels what to do. They report to heaven. Angels in heaven praise God, so sometimes I play worship music and sing.

Have an awareness of heaven. Anything in your home that's a bad influence on anybody, needs to be let go. Kids and teenagers can watch Christian cartoons, Bible stories, and movies on YouTubeTv. You hook it up to your tv. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world. Gently wean your kids over to Christian media.

    Watch with them.

Morning Chris i concur with you and must say that am blessed this morning,

yes its very correct that its only our God who provides healing unto our lives

and as believers of Christ Jesus we ought to know that the scriptures is clearly

recorded as i quote from the book of ISAIAH 53:5:' But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

N/b when we get sick we should Pray to God and remind Him alone of His Word & when we do so in Faith indeed we are heald.Shalom.

    TO CHRIS:

All I could find on angels is: Matthew 4:11, Luke 22:43, Psalm 91:11

They ministered to Jesus after his encounter with Satan on Jesus's 40 day fast.

We can ask God if the angels can minister to someone in trouble. We cannot demand it.

The Lords Prayer is the way Jesus taught us to pray.

    Spiritual warfare is different.

    *Peace Begins With Me

In a world of darkness Let me be a light; Let me bring the sunshine to drive away the night. In a world of sadness, let my light shine through, Giving hope and comfort in everything I do! And I will shine God's light for every one to see; So we may share in the Joy of peace and unity.

In a world of strangers, Let me be a friend. Let the light of kindness Glow until the end. In a world of hatred, Let my love shine through, Bringing us together, In friendship, me and you! And I will shine God's light for every one to see; So we may share in the joy of peace and unity.

Let God make tomorrow brighter than today, Let the world be better because I passed this way. In a world of questions I have found the key: God can make a difference When peace begins with me!

God can make a difference When peace begins with me! Oh, yes peace begins with me.
  • Carleton John 14 and thoughts on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
John 14 has so much warmth and hope in Jesus, the Father and the Comforter reigning while Jesus was in earth himself and after in the believer's earth. Jesus said the Father will send another Comforter. When the believer by love keeps His commandments and sayings, then Jesus will manifest himself to them. Jesus and the Father by love will come unto the believer and abode with them as the Comforter which is the Holy Ghost. Jesus gives us His peace. The Father in Jesus was doing the works, Phillip had a choice to believe now in these works or to believe in Jesus himself for the very work's sake.

Other thoughts: Some day Jesus himself will return for His faithful followers and that hour in that day will be sudden. For God, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. Let His peace reign. There is a school song that says, Let his Peace begin with me. (maybe I can find it and put it onto the comments). Repentance and faith in this Work creates a clean heart where the Comforter can reign. Think of all the hearts with this love abiding in steadfast faithfulness and love, little lights in a world that cannot comprehend light.

Healing comes by faith in Fathers ability, willingness AND His Word, Jesus Christ.

Faith cometh by hearing; hearing by the Word of God. That's Jesus.

If your faith just quivers, we need to feed it big, on some Scriptures (Bible). :)

At the entrance of this website is 2 search boxes. One is blank; the other you can dial in: Books, Chapters, Verses

USE the one that is BLANK and Type in: HEALING. Choose either Old Testament only, New Testament only; or read all of them!

The search engine will go get every verse with HEALING in it. Do the same thing with the word, Faith.

Your Heart is a vault for Bible Scripture. If you don't read specifically for Healing, or deliverance from demonic activity, faith for living for Jesus.... there's just an echo of emptiness in there.

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher. He's not going to say much if you rarely ask Him questions.

You can gain a whole new perspective on scripture; how it is used, how OT people used it and how Jesus and the disciples used it. It creates a closeness between us and the Creator.

    Good studying Mishael
  • Chris - In Reply on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
Jane, I cannot think of any specific instance of an angel doing a healing work on behalf of God. The only one that comes close is in John chapter 5 verses 1-4: the angel that stirred the waters at the pool at Bethesda. Did your Pastor refer to this, or how did he support his message about the healing work of angels?

As a side note, Raphael, the 'archangel' is not accepted by mainstream Christians, but this 'angel' is mentioned in some apocryphal books of Judaism, Catholicism, eastern Orthodox, LDS, & Islam. But I doubt whether your Pastor was inclined to any of these. Yet, as he correctly quoted, Hebrews 1:13-14 does speak of angels who are involved & interested in our human lives to minister to us and also observe our worship ( 1 Corinthians 11:3-10).

We believe that it is God Who gives healing, just as His Son did while He walked on Earth. And this healing to us is ministered by His Spirit Who indwells every child of God & unites with our human spirit: not only bearing witness with our spirit that we belong to Him ( Romans 8:16), but also affecting our whole being to align us with the Will & Purposes of God in our lives. So whenever we sin or choose to go outside the Will of God, the Spirit checks us to draw us back, but sadly many persist in their wilfulness & thereby become estranged & grieve the Heart of God.
  • Jane on Isaiah 5:20 - 4 years ago
My pastor did a message on angels, our ministering spirits and said that the Lord sends healing angels to us. I always thought only Jesus/God heals? I could not find healing angel in the bible. Where is it?

Good morning, Does the Gospel message really allow brethren to be warriors and lambs in the same body of Christ? That breast plate of righteousness is it not love for the truth? Who is the harvest field and who are the harvesters? What was I before my repentance?

AMEN! God's Word is truth! I preached this past

Sunday on Marxism & BLM. All Scripture was from the Bible and all notes from fact sheets and quotes. I knew I would receive some backlash (nasty) but 98% agreed. I am a proud American and a Christian and I will not be silent. I served 4 years in the Marines and 42 years in Law Enforcement, State Corrections, and Protective Services (I HAVE A RIGHT TO VOICE MY BELIEFS & OPINIONS). As Christian's we are required to serve God and speak truth (in love)! Thank you and God Bless!

This passage in Isaiah does not merely refer to any one thing that is bad but called good, it refers to all iniquity justified as a necessary act. We are indeed living in the times referred to by Isaiah, edicts received through revelation and those images that prompted his commentary. Just turn on any news channel and see and hear for yourself the wrongful acts that are reported by leftists journalists, those acts that have been truly bad for as long as anyone can remember and see for yourself the justifications used to declare this lie. Riot, looting, assault, arson, murder and even rape (among the plethora of other sins) are seen as necessary evils committed to affect leftist changes in our society by abject sinners. The most repressive regimes in history have used this false logic to justified the wrongs they commit in order to hatch, maintain and keep a jackboot on the necks of believers in Holy writ. We are living this nightmare today.

Technology and Science work hand in hand to replace the Creator, the Almighty One is He. The prince of the air is only the prince of the air, and nothing else. Our Lord reigns over all that is good and all that is evil. The Bible prophecies of old tell us today what the Lord has had planned for the church of today. The Christian church would be an apostate church, full of religion and tradition. But the Apostate church is devoid of the Power of the Holy Spirit drawing sinners to know that they need a Savior to save them from their sins. It does not teach or preach truth, but entertains the lost unrepentant sinner. It is full of nice stories and nice entertaining music, but the Spirit of the Lord that CONVICTS SINNERS is MISSING! May the sinner reading this today know that God can convict you of your sins, right here and right now as you read this. He is calling the BACKSLIDER back to the cross reminding you that Jesus washed away all our sins at Calvary! Hear the Spirit calling!
