This verse tells us that what Jesus was writing in the earth when the woman caught in adultery was brought before Him was the names of the pharisees who were condemning her, because it was they who were actually in the act of forsaking Him at that very moment. Jesus wrote their names in the earth...and they were aware of this verse, and they knew what He was illustrating for them.....because they knew who He was...i.e., see John chapter 3 and Jesus ' conversation with Nicodemus.

Verse 7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in th Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. Verse 26th And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD. The man who drinks from One source of living water God will never be thirsty. His faithfullness to that source deepens his roots of trust. Even when trouble surrounds Him his heart is filled with Godly solutions that will deliver him for eternity. He will always remain quenched and the work of his hands will always be fruitful and green even when the sun is scorching hot!

All religions have temples where their hope, their confidence rest. As Christians we have also have a temple a place of the throne of our God the place where our hope rests. But our temple like the Jews before us is not the one that was built as a model of the one true temple in Heaven, shown in Revelation 4, but is the one from the beginning of Creation, the only true temple of the only true God the only true sanctuary, or place of true rest and security.

It is a proven fact in my life that my heart with all the human emotions and pride of the flesh has been very deceitful, encouraging me to seek out self pleasing things feeling like it was love, but the true love comes from God and does not seek it's own but anothers happiness and joy.
  • Mathenge Charles on Jeremiah 17:9 - 11 years ago
JER17:9The heart of man is deceitful above all things. The fact that its ''deceitful'' implies that it can't be trusted. From verse 7, its clear that God wants to warn us not to rely on ourselves but to trust him to make our hearts pure and pleasing in his sight.

It does not matter what is happening around you, be it famine or drought, if your trust is in Jesus Christ then you will be kept and provided for, even when everyone else around you are feeling the effects of what is going on.
you have to trust God and live.

Verse 7, I praise and give thanks to our faithful God. His word is powerful to those that believe, trust and put their hopes on his word because Jesus is the word. Salvation is already prepared for all human being that accepted him as a personal savior. And his kingdom is our home forever, I think him who trusts, believes and obeys in his word, he bless them.
  • Peter on Jeremiah 17 - 11 years ago
I noticed that in many chapter of the Bible, God makes it clear he does not want us to work on Sunday. Does he allow for exceptions? For example, if my house is burning down on Sunday, will he forgive the firemen who put it out? What about policemen and doctors? Is there a list of occupations that are exempt from this rule?
