The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am morning; astonishment hath taken hold on me.
I'm not totally certain if its a skin color or a metaphor, but I've heard this verse before be interpreted as a skin color. But just because someone says they're black doesn't mean African. There are caucasions who are very dark from being in the sun so much, for example. People then spent many hours walking outside in the sun- so I think even olive skinned Jews would have been very dark. God bless.
This shows STILL the Jewish people in the world ALL of them whether religious, cultural, Ashkenazi or Sephardi really need the Gospel for Salvation even today. Pastor Steven Anderson from Faithful Word Babtist Church and refuses to offer them the Gospel with a gracious attitude even in such spiritual blindness.
Jeremiah 8:17: God said he is Black: He is angry with Israel for not worshiping HIM but other gods He is Black with anger. wow, may we repent and never see the darkness of God's anger.
R Egnor; verse 21 "For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me." The word used (Heb. qadar - kaw-dar'), means to be ashy i.e dark colored; by implication to mourn (in sackcloth or sordid garments) be black, dark, heavy, mourn, etc. Also: totally without light in complete darkness full of sorrow or suffering sad dismal gloomy without hope.
In verse 6, God was waiting and listening for any sign of repentance on the part of the Israelites. This shows that he wanted to forgive them, but since they lacked sincere repentance God would not forgive them.
Yes, there is a balm Gilead, Jesus is our balm in Gilead to save and heal us, but we have to come to him and receive him as Lord and saviour. There is no other way.
Was this an event in history, or a prophecy for today?Muslims are known for digging up remains of kings and leaders. It refers to it being in the sight of the hosts of heaven, and their flag is moon and star.Invasion from far North would be Turkey. So many Jews are so by heritage only, and they did refuse to accept the Messiah when He came. "Refine"
This book is hard for me to enjoy because it is God punishing or letting bad things happen to Judah. He even hired old King Neb to have his way with them because of their noisome disobedience. He removed his protection that King David waxed so poetic about in Psalms. And so it is. Yes, the bible is ancient but the lessons remain quite topical. Follow after idols in any form and you can kiss your blessings goodbye.
Verse 14, Jesus is the living water and Israel rejects Jesus. Jesus is Peace and Love. That rejection is the sin against the Lord. Therefore, they only have the symbolic water of Satan to drink, which is gall and that represents Hate and War.
God is showing us signs and wonders, He is telling us the time is very short. It is time to repent of our sins and to encourage others to return to The Lord. Many people are dying needlessly because of sin. But there is hope for many who will look to Jesus.
Jeremiah 8:15 We looked for peace (worldly peace), but no good came (no peace came); and for a time of health (health care for all), and behold trouble! Instead the deadly Mark of the Beast. Amen
Jeremiah 8:13 I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine No fruit of the Lords), nor figs on the fig tree(no fruit of the Lords), and the leaf shall fade (the saints that are for the healing of the nations); and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them (the shall no longer have the gifts of the Sprit).
Evangelist Chidi. My only advice is that we all need to return like children of God not our fathers or our will buy the truth and sell it not nothing is new God is unchangeable and will do what he intends to do according to his judgements he will not change or spare the wicked. We need to change as quickly as possible not talk of some of us who had a life encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ and got delivered nothing is new if we refuse to turn around quickly judgement will repeat God is too real to doubt gor some of us who have no knowleadge or revelation about pls run as there is fire on the mountain run;run heaven and hell is too real be bless encourage anyone around you to make peace with God.
Harvest - time when God gather His people to Him - is past, and the summer - God's allotted time for us to be saved, the time of grace -- is ended, and we are still not saved - to enter into winter, the time of God's reckoning.
that's just one season ,One year,One summer,One harvest. What about all the other year's that we are not saved When are we going to get saved,we are in Ruth's gleaning that means we are running of time
As I read the comments on this p***age, I am reminded of the scripture in ( Revelation 22:18-19)
Which is a warning for those who distort the Word! The Bible also records in ( I Timothy 4:1) that this is another sign of the last days as well as ( 2Timothy 4:3-4) (2 Timothy3:16)" God Breathed" Read also ( 2 Peter1:19-21)(2 Peter2:1). Pray the prayer according to ( Ephesians 1:17-19), allow God through the Holy spirit to teach you, and give you the revelation, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of His word.
Jeremiah 8:8 is only reminding us of how far we have negleted both the law and the word of GOD and how deep wickedness has eating deep into our society. It is a wake up call to our prophets(preachers), religiouse leaders and political leaders.

The Judgement of God is soon to come, because priest, and the people are given to coveteousness. The people are not aware of the hour of judgement that is about to come upon them for their wickeness. We too must repent, and turn to the Lord in sathcloth and ashes. Turn from vanity, and give God the glory only for he will not share his glory with any graven image. This is why Jeremiah was weeping for the daughters of Zion because judgement was coming. Preachers should be weeping today in the congregation for the people to return to the Lord.
v.3: where? how long? v.7: appointed time? time of their coming? v.11: daughter of my people? v.15: We? v.19: daughter of my people...? that dwell in a far country....?
I was Totally shocked by NIV (and other Bible)translations of Jeremiah 8: 8 as compared with King James version (1984 ed.,).
NIV:
8 “‘How can you say, “We are wise,
for we have the law of the LORD,”
when actually the lying pen of the scribes
has handled it falsely?
King James:
8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
---------------------
First, I think the error arose from he (KJV)when it should be He (God).
Consequently the verse should literally read thus:
8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made He it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.
----------------------
My modern English Translations will then read:
8 How can you say you are wise because you have the law of God ? Indeed God’s (written) law to you is in vain (useless) and the efforts of the scribes (in writing it) were also in vain.
8 How can you say you are wise because you have the law of God ? Indeed God’s law is mocked by you and the efforts of the scribes were therefore in vain.
Or
8 Why do you boast you are wise simply because you have God’s Law? In fact God’s Law mean nothing to you and the scribe’s efforts (in writing it ) was a waste
Or
8 Why do you boast you are wise simply because you have God’s Law? Honestly, God’s Law has achieved nothing with you and the efforts of the scribe in writing it was a waste
----------------------
As demonstrated in the whole Chapter 8 of Jeremiah, God was rebuking his people (the Jews) for not following the laws he laid down for them. In order not to repeat the whole argument as outlined by the chapter, God says their refusing to follow the laws He caused to be written down for them means that the writer’s (scribe’s) efforts are then in Vain.
God did not say that what the scribes wrote is wrong but that Jews do not follow the writings and thus the writings are in vain; of no use ; not yielding fruit, -in other words they scorn the writing and because of this, God is going to punish them.
PLEASE, PLEASE, what is happening to the Bible? Has SATAN infiltrated and corrupted the Bible beyond rescue? How can these men of ?God supposedly filled with the Holy Ghost be unable to translate simple clear passages like Jer 8:8 where the whole context is repeating the same message over and over again. I am totally FURIOUS with these mistranslations.
All these new translations are causing more HARM than good.
Before these Bible TRANSLATORS produce another version, I strongly suggest they put out a world call to all Christians to submit errors / misrepresentations they found in NIV / other Bible versions(via their Pastors) so that you don't create a bigger BLUNDER next time.

Maybe the commentary will help:

Where those people of darker complexion as a group?
Does this mean something totally different?
