The people are corrected, Jerusalem is destroyed. (1-11) The captives suffer in a foreign land. (12-22) God's loving-kindness, He threatens the enemies of his people. (23-26)1-11 Jeremiah wept much, yet wished he could weep more, that he might rouse the people to a due sense of the hand of God. But even the desert, without communion with God, through Christ Jesus, and the influences of the Holy Spirit, must be a place for temptation and evil; while, with these blessings, we may live in holiness in crowded cities. The people accustomed their tongues to lies. So false were they, that a brother could not be trusted. In trading and bargaining they said any thing for their own advantage, though they knew it to be false. But God marked their sin. Where no knowledge of God is, what good can be expected? He has many ways of turning a fruitful land into barrenness for the wickedness of those that dwell therein.

23-26 In this world of sin and sorrow, ending soon in death and judgement, how foolish for men to glory in their knowledge, health, strength, riches, or in any thing which leaves them under the dominion of sin and the wrath of God! and of which an account must hereafter be rendered; it will but increase their misery. Those are the true Israel who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. Let us prize the distinction which comes from God, and will last for ever. Let us seek it diligently.

Hi Roger. The prophet Jeremiah was also known as the 'weeping prophet' ( Jeremiah 9:1,10; Jeremiah 31:16,17) as he had an exceptionally tender heart towards his people. When we read Jeremiah chapter 9, we need to also look at chapter 8, as they are connected. The volume of their sins; sins of adultery, deceit, & idolatry which God would certainly punish & not overlook, fully gripped the prophet. His weeping ought to have alerted the people to the certainty of judgement for their follies, but they disregarded the warnings.

So his exclamation in Jeremiah 9:1: "Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!", is a picture of how he felt & the tears that would flow because of the impending slaying of his people by the Babylonian sword & then into captivity, away from their God-given land.

Verse 3: The Israelites went from one bad thing to another. They ignored Jehovah God. We must strive to be pleasing to God in all things.

It is a call for people to know God. To turn from evil and recognise that knowing God will lead to a better life.

Jeremiah 9:23 says it all! Can not add to it, nor take away from this awesome scripture! Selah!

Verse 24 shows that God is delighted when he sees that justice is being exercised. This shows he hates the injustices that are taking place worldwide.

my pastor spoke on ch 23 and 24,talking about many really dont know Christ,and who He really is to them

It is my desire to impress the Lord with my. knowledge him so I love this scripture verse.

Verse 25 may mean that in war even the innocent are killed or hurt with the wicked. When a missile lands it punishes everyone in the area no matter if they are righteous or not.

Verse 13 may refer to what Jesus said in John chapter 15 verse 12 and chapter 15 verse 17. "These things I command you that ye love one another. " Verse 15... If Love is absent in the heart of man only Hate, gall, remains. I think wormwood is nuclear destruction. I think that circumcision always was meant to be symbolic. I do not believe God would require a piece of flesh to be removed and the original form that God created destroyed. God made man in his image, only Satan would want to change that image. To be circumcised is to cut Hate away from one so that only Love remains. This is a thought process not a physical process. Circumcision is spiritual and not a physical cutting of flesh. Love never wants to cause pain.

Good time to repent is now.

If there were some place far away even in the wilderness, where I can get away from my people for they are all adulterers, a group of treacherous men.

Jeremiah 9 is a call to stand in the gap to breach the God and the people by seeking God 's mercy and forgiveness of sin when we couple Jeremiah 9 and Nehemiah 9. Blessed be the Lord our God

It is a timely message requiring us to earnestly seek his face and obey Him totally.

"that dwell in the wilderness" of sin and disobdience to God's word, whether they be Gentiles or Jews.

I can't speak for everyone that visit this site; but this is a prophetic picture of where I live today. I dare to say that this is happening in a lot of communities today. Deception, theft, extortion, drugs, Gangs, scams, mail fraud , you name it, its all around us everyday. Oh God please forgive the sin and heal our land, have mercy upon us in these divided( not united any more) states of this nation." THE RUIN OF A NATION BEGINS IN THE HOMES OF ITS PEOPLE!" WAKE_UP EVERYBODY! ITS PRAYING TIME NOW!!!!

God has chosen us to delight ourselves in Him and in nothing else. He will glorify us and bring forth His righteousness in us. Praise the Lord!

Since the seals have been taken off the book, we must take verses such as this to indicate that we are to trust God to reveal HIS secrets to his servants the prophets( Amos 3:7 Matt. 23:34). But we are unable to do that unless He gives us a new heart(Eze36:25-28) wherein dwelleth righteousness. the milk of the word is a literal reading of the scriptures,( Heb 5:14) whereas the MEAT,which comes by the study of God's word, comparing spiritual things with spiritual ( 1 Cor 2:13)is wisdom and knowledge that ONLY GOD can give. Seek HIS mercy, Seek HIS truth.
