“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
King James Version (KJV)
1:9 Who lighteth every man - By what is vulgarly termed natural conscience, pointing out at least the general lines of good and evil. And this light, if man did not hinder, would shine more and more to the perfect day.
Joh 1:9 [That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. The Revised Version reads, "There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world". Grammatically, both in the Greek and the English, "coming" may belong to the "light", or "every" man. We believe that it should agree with "light". That was the true or real Light who, when he comes into the world, enlightens every man. Jesus says, "I am come a light into the world" (Joh 12:46).
