Brother Chris, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and His understanding.

God is Spirit, HE can never die.

Christ was the first man CREATED, and Christ WAS GIVEN a BODY. That body can holds the PRESENCE of God.

Isaiah 63:9 In all their affliction, he was afflicted, and the angel of his (the Father's) presence SAVED THEM: in his love, and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

Christ emptied himself of God's (the Father's) glory and took on the BODY of SINFUL FLESH, to be (sinful flesh) DESTROYED.

Sinful flesh died on the cross not Spirit (God).

Into thy hands I commend my Spirit (there is ONLY ONE SPIRIT).

Three days later SPIRIT gave back LIFE to the BODY (the resurrected body Christ had from the BEGINNING.

This same BODY is promised to us by the SPIRIT'S work through Christ (dying as sinful flesh for us).

Very true "Simply true to the word", my "error is astounding", if you don't believe in the deity of Jesus Christ. I do believe that the Word of God (that which proceedeth out of the Mouth of God) became flesh. Since the Word of God & the Father & the Spirit are intrinsically One God, then Who died on the Cross? Jesus died, Who is the Word of God Who proceeded from the very Being of God & is now the visible essence of God.

But if you believe that Jesus was a created Son of God & never part of the Godhead, then you would be correct.
  • Chris - In Reply on John 1 - 2 years ago
I believe we are in agreement Sacha, that the Holy Spirit is not a separate Being, but having the very Nature of God, being God's Spirit that He has sent out into the World. The problem arises when the Spirit is perceived to be just a 'force or power' of God, thereby reducing Him to an abstract form. If He is to be God's Spirit, & God sends His Spirit into the world & ultimately indwelling His children, then we can be assured that it is God Himself that engages with the world & with His children. If the Scriptures reveal that the Spirit teaches, guides, contends, or grieves, then it is God Himself Who does this work or has those feelings, because His Spirit in the World is never separated from the One Who sent Him forth.

In like manner, and of Jesus' position about Whom there is much contention & argument, God has never left His people without His Word & Witness. Whether of Israel or now of those coming in faith through the Cross, God's Word has always been clear & without interruption. As God sent out His Spirit to accomplish His Purposes in the World, so too God has sent out His Word for His people, Israel. But they despised that Word, disobeyed God & served idols. The Word they received was not "mixed with faith", even as those in Hebrews chapter 11 were commended for.

Therefore, in due time, God once again sent out His Word to His people that they might receive the message, that the Word now given flesh would be the very means for God to forgive & justify sinners through faith in Jesus, His Word. I say all this, to show that even in the giving of Jesus, God was present on Earth in His Son. And that was the great cost of our salvation, that God should lay down His Life for us, because of His Love for us - no other Sacrifice would have worked or been acceptable. And all we have to do is to have faith in that completed Work.

Therefore, both the Spirit & the Word of God (Jesus) are now & have been vital within the Godhead - without them, God wouldn't be.

Is the Holy Spirit a person?

    Jehovah's is a spirit ( Psalm 83:18; John 4:24). and he made his Angels spirits ( psalm 104:4);

and he blew his spirit into Adam nostril "the breath of life." when a men or human dies, his breath goes out. and the spirit returns to God (not the flesh itself.. because the body is flesh made from dust - Genesis 2:7).

the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, these qualities is his spirit. this he has created men in his image to display these qualities to take care of the earth. -

    Galatians 5:22,23

According to Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus said go therefore baptizing in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit (the accurate term is holy spirit because John 4:24 accurately says spirit). Also, Jesus is not God ( John 5:19) but he was raised up as a spirit again; and he is a Angel.- John 14:28

Point: God can give his spirit to anyone to serve his purpose- Luke 1:35. if we worship God, we must worship with spirit and truth- john 4:24. anyone who want to worship in truth...should believe in the word of God ( 2 Timothy 3:16,17). by this God will give his spirit and truth will speak.

To illustrate: person 1, person 2, and person 3 are all different people. God will and can give his spirit to person 2 to carry out a particular task. God may want person 2 to completes that task fully. he may use person 3 or person 1 to do something completely different or accomplish the same purpose. (so yes the spirit basically belongs to God, because he is a spirit and the source of distributing that spirit to accomplish his purpose.- Genesis 1:1,26,27 ). no human can force God to do this or that. he is the boss of the spirit.- Isaiah 43:11-13

    hope these scriptures help.

Hi Chris , I do not believe that the Holy Spirit is a separate being apart from God Himself . There are so many instances in the Old Testament where God says : I will pour out My Spirit upon them or him etc . It is God's Holy Spirit . We are filled with the Spirit of Christ which is the same Spirit that God gave to Christ without measure , His Holy Spirit . That is why we are allowed to call Him Father , I'm not as good with words as you are which is why I try to keep my posts short and after I read them through I'm often dissatisfied with my efforts . I think that may be why I'm sometimes misunderstood . I don't carefully pick my words or try to fit into an expected mould I just try to say what I believe in my own words . I'm sorry if that offends some people as it is never my intention to do so . I enjoyed your post , thankyou . I am often filled with a burning desire to express myself on here and have to make a serious effort to just say nothing as I know I won't get it out right .

Jesus' prayer to His Father is found in John chapter 17. Sorry, I omitted giving that reference in my last paragraph.
  • Chris - In Reply on John 1 - 2 years ago
Hello Lily. If we say that the Holy Spirit is a person, some people might think that we believe in two gods. So that word (person) can often be unsuitable or confusing to some.

It's best to understand the Holy Spirit (& Jesus) as living parts or emanations from the One God. Just as Jesus, before His incarnation (i.e. coming to Earth in human form) was the Word of God ( John 1:1-14), so to the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God sent out to accomplish God's Will. Neither the Word of God (Jesus) nor the Holy Spirit are ever independent of God - all are equally One & eternally One - God wouldn't be Who He is without the Word & the Holy Spirit.

But when we read in the Bible of the Holy Spirit's Attributes & Work, we are actually seeing God manifesting Himself in the out-working of His Spirit. If you look up the following Scriptures, you can see God the Spirit manifested in a few ways:

    a. He is intelligent ( 1 Corinthians 2:10,11)

    b. He has feelings ( Ephesians 4:30)

    c. He has a will ( 1 Corinthians 12:11)

    d. He teaches ( John 14:26)

    e. He guides ( John 16:13; Romans 8:14)

    f. He commissions ( Acts 13:4)

    g. He commands ( Acts 8:29)

    h. He contends ( Genesis 6:3)

    i. He intercedes ( Romans 8:26)

So, the Holy Spirit is not simply a force or a power of God, as some want to believe. He is God Himself because He goes about His Work as God desires (i.e. as if God was on Earth doing it). Nothing the Spirit does is contrary or independent of God, just as Jesus on Earth, perfectly fulfilled God's Will through His Words, His Life, His Work, & His Death (you can read Jesus' wonderful prayer to His Father in this respect). I hope that has been a little helpful. May the Spirit (the Living God) help you as you meditate on these things from the Word.

Hello William. We're not given the answer to your question, but one can only surmise from the details already provided in Matthew chapter 3 & Matthew 11:2-6 specifically.

From those Scriptures, I believe that John the Baptist knew that Jesus was his cousin. They would have certainly known each other & probably played together as children. When John was led into his ministry by the Lord, he was found in the wilderness of Judaea & in the Jordan area baptizing. So it seems that both he & Jesus may have lost contact with each other for some years, until their coming together in Matthew 3:13. It appears John recognized his cousin at this point, but sadly in Matthew 11, we see an imprisoned John sending out two of his disciples to enquire whether this Worker of miracles was indeed the Christ or if there was another he should be expecting. Whether John was unsure that it was his cousin doing those miracles that he was hearing of, or whether John, in prison, started to weary in faith & hope to have asked such a question, we're not told. John may have questioned in himself, why he was still in prison when the Messiah who had the power to secure his release, was ministering elsewhere - didn't Jesus have some pity for him? We just don't know & I can only offer this for your thoughts & discernment. Though, yes, I believe that they were both fully aware of their family connections.

Brother S Spencer, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

1 John 3:2 (NOT GODS) I assume this is because of my response to Chris.

I BELIEVE that everyone on this site is here because God has CAUSED them to be here.

I BELIEVE all on this site are seeking TRUTH and God has CAUSED them to be here for that TRUTH.

We just SHARE God's Words; it's the SPIRIT that reveals the TRUTH.

Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and ONE SPIRIT.....

    John 4:24 God is SPIRIT....

There is only ONE SPIRIT (GOD)

Christ was the Firstborn of that ONE SPIRIT, being born again of that ONE SPIRIT we are Joint Heirs with Christ.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the FORM of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

Mark 12:20 .... The Lord our God, is ONE LORD.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass (mirror) the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same IMAGE from glory to glory, even as by the (ONE) Spirit of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined into the Lord is ONE SPIRIT.

    Ephesians 4:4....ONE SPIRIT....

    John 4:24 God is SPIRIT

Joshua 22:22 The Lord God of gods, the Lord God of gods .....

John 10:34 Is it not written in you LAW, I said, ye are gods

Matthew 5:17 ....but to fulfil (the LAW).

Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods, the children of the most high.

Psalms 136:2 O give thanks to the God of gods: for his mercy endureth forever.

    Hi Dianne.

When I say create, God brought nothing into something!! Whether you call him Lucifer, The Serpent, The Devil, Satan, Angel, or Cherub. Whether he turned Good to bad or bad to Good, ( In the beginning he didn't exist.) If there was no Lucifer there would be no Devil.

The question wasn't " Did God create the attributes of the Devil"

Lucifer was cast down "From his glorious position" and so did many other Angels, At onetime they didn't exist and God spoke them into existence.

Colossians 1:16. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, VISIBLE and INVISIBLE, whether they be THRONES, or DOMINIONS, or PRINCIPALITIES, or POWERS: ALL THINGS WERE CREATED BY HIM, and for him:

ALL of creation, this World we live in now is nothing like it was when it was created. We only know of it post Adam sin.

Man is flesh, Sinful, unholy, ( The opposite of God, )

We are born descendants of Adam. Someday we will be like Christ.

    1 John 3:2. (NOT GODS.)

1 Corinthians 15:45-49 . And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

The world we know will someday be destroyed, and the Heavens,

All creation will be redeemed, There will be a new Heaven and earth. Revelation 21:1.

This creation will be known as the creation of old,

Did God create both the old and the new?

    Yes he did.

    God bless.

Right, God created all of us , an Lucifer had worked an earned his way, an God made him the full package, doing a very important an close to God position to be in charge of protecting the mercy seat , but his pride an ego , got to the point of him wanting to sit in the mercy seat an be God himself,.. the real sad part was not only did he defy God , but a third of our brothers an sisters were also deceived by Lucifer an followed him , creating a large problem, God , could either destroy Lucifer an a third of his children, or destroy the current situation, an create this age , an have us all , go threw it ( one time ) to decide if we love God , or Lucifer,.. Our father is a loving father, he could not just destroy a third of us , in good conscience. This age is a test, first were last an the last were first , an that's what decided your birth in this age. Everyone born to make there own decisions, an he sent prophets, an of course himself ( Jesus ) so far , you've passed the first test , being born of this age , for we know threw the book of Jude , 7000 , refusing to be born of this age, an instead leaving their place of habitation, to come an impregnate the daughters of Adam, which in turn made the giants , mixing a spiritual body of those of flesh , in turn having Noah , the only family not to mingle with the fallen angels, build that arch , an take 2 of EVERY flesh , for the flood to cleans the earth of the geber ( giants) it's been an unbelievable long story, an my frens , the best deceiver is yet to come , with his fallen angels, an the greatest tent revival this world has ever seen,.. will you be ready ? Will you be making that stand ? Will you know what it is God would have you do ? I hope so , an I hope you do ,..

    peace be with you all

S Spencer I know your a stickler for what the word says and I respect that show me in those verses where it says the devil. He Was perfect the day he was created Lucifer then he changed he wasn't created that way. another question how can a God that's all love and light and heals produce a being his opposite. Now I'm gracefully ending this God bless.'
  • S Spencer - In Reply on John 1 - 3 years ago
    Hi Nana,

    Yes God created the devil.

Read Ezekiel 28:12-19. take note of verses 14 and 15.

" Ezekiel 28:14-15. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast "CREATED", till iniquity was found in thee."

Psalms 148:2-5. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.

Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.

Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.

" Let THEM praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were CREATED."

Colossians 1:16. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

    God bless.
  • Dianne - In Reply on John 1 - 3 years ago
Nana Just as adam has stated Everything God created was given freedom of will to obey Him or not including angels, the true God is not a control freak and does not make or control people to do things. If He was he could have stopped Adam and Eve. Even Jesus Christ in the Garden of gethsemane ask is there any other way. he was not forced to go to the cross he out of love for us gave Himself. Gods desire or will is for people to love him by there freedom of will that is a process of thought based on scripture. Hence the word of God Is the Will of God. So the more scripture in your head it can work in your believing Heart and be seen in your daily walk and talk. God Bless
  • Adam - In Reply on John 1 - 3 years ago
Hello, God created everything, but He doesn't create our own choices. He loved us enough to give us freewill. We can use it for good or evil. The fact that satan was an angel in heaven and chose evil shows that even angels in heaven have freewill. So, heaven isn't filled with a bunch of obedient robots, but God-loving beings who choose love. Because most people choose evil, most people won't go to heaven.

God doesn't want people to sin. Sin is disobedience to God and immorality.

Those who are upset about evil existing often complain about freewill that others have to do evil (but not themselves). But if you're a parent and have a choice of forcing your child into compliance to say they love you, or hearing 'I love you' under their own choosing, which would be more genuine and meaningful to you?

    God bless...

  • Dianne - In Reply on John 1 - 3 years ago
Earl I'm not saying this applies to you I've seen in the comments a lot of the things pulled out of context or misquoted I do not choose to believe these things are intentional why because my mind chooses the love of God thinketh no evil. Some things in Gods word need to be understood according to use of words in context or the eastern thought because the bible is an eastern book and there are other items that help clarify original meaning. In this regard I'm here to line it up with it is written and agree or disagree and say God Bless.
