Voddie Baucham talks about how this wasn t a hasty or uncontrollable anger. Jesus took the time to make this scourge, probably having to find the necessary parts then make it.
  • Billy bob on John 2 - 5 years ago
    This really speaks to me
  • Kalyani Davidar on John 2 - 6 years ago
The incident at the wedding at Cana, clearly reveals through Mary , that Jesus is the miracle-worker because she exhorts the helpers to go to Jesus and do as He instructs them to. And His venting His wrath against those who have turned the Lord's house into a trading centre is a warning to all those who today, use sanctified premises for monetary gains, or the Word as a tool for lucrative purposes
  • Alex on John 2 - 6 years ago
Jesus wd not commit himself to any man b/c he knew what was in man and needed not that anyman should testify of man v 24

WE ARE THE TEMPLE, CAST OUT THAT WHICH DOES NOT BELONG
  • Nana Darko on John 2 - 6 years ago
Jesus was angry because the people were buying and selling. The same thing is still happening in our days. As Christians, we should stop selling holy water, anointing oil and preaching that makes people jump from their seats. These transactions in the house of God do not promote anything spiritually to us. We should allow the temple of God to serve its intended purpose.
  • BSP on John 2 - 6 years ago
Verse 21~Jesus referred to his body as a temple. Jesus was holy and was a perfect man so this is a fitting representation.
  • Servant of God on John 2 - 6 years ago
Destroy this temple and in 3 days I will raise it up. The testimony which convicted Jesus to death by crucifiction. But he would not commit to them which believed on him for he knew what was in man. That is that he will die in his sin. What Jesus commits to is God, his father, and nothing else, for everything else is of the Devil, which is sin. It is an either/or dilemma. Mortality/eternity,
  • Eutychus on John 2 - 6 years ago
Jesus built His church, which today is the sole Temple of God. He was incensed enough to drive the buyers and sellers ( Luke 19:45) out of the temple of that day...how must he view buying and selling in his church, the Temple of our day? We pay preachers, who are selling what they know to us. "And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought"
  • Elisha on John 2 - 6 years ago
i know the scriptures by heart about god of saying the memory verse of John 3:16 for god so love the world that he gave the sins but not perish
  • A disciple on John 2 - 6 years ago
Mary didn't know that it wasn't her place to tell the Lord what to do! Mary was in need of the Saviour as much as anyone else. She was blessed in that she was chosen to give birth to the Anointed come in the flesh; but she was nothing more! Jesus is the ONE who is to be worshiped, not Mary! Jesus was severing their parent /child relationship, and setting Mary within her bounds; even so He granted.
  • Servant of God on John 2 - 6 years ago
Water-wine, the first of the great miracles of Jesus, reluctant but acceded to Mary's orchestration (for she alone knew at that time)to reveal the purposes of God, that he had been sent by the Father in heaven, too whom Jesus was in communion with, to demonstrate by word and deed on earth the truth that God is all powerful in heaven and on earth, that we ought to worship as Jesus worships, Amen
  • Granny on John 2 - 6 years ago
Sometimes you can be so heavenly pious, that you're no earthly good. Mary once pondered those things in her heart; now she's possibly wanting to publish the diety of Christ, beautiful. Notice in 3:9 It was the ruler who didn't know where it (the miracle) came from, yet the servants that drew the water knew. It is not the high minded that can see or hear God, but the obedient servant. ITimothy 6:4

Kevin; The Jews demand a sign; and as Jesus always said to them, in sometimes different ways but essentially the same thing: There will NO SIGN be given them, but the sign of His death and resurrection.
  • Kevin on John 2 - 7 years ago
John 2:19 Since Jesus is talking about Himself, is He telling the Jews to destroy Him or did He mean "should I be destroyed"?
  • Honey on John 2 - 7 years ago
Humans today try to justify their actions by twisting the Lord's holy words to make an excuse for their actions instead of wanting to understand what he is trying to teach us through his scriptures. Remember, man should not try to add nor twist God's words because there will be a price to pay if you do. Mediate on those thoughts. Don't get caught up in the things of this world. Be Blessed!
  • Rachel on John 2 - 7 years ago
This verse is about obedience then and for us today; "Whatsoever He saith, do it."
This is one of the most profound verses in scripture. It's believed to be the first public statement from His mother's lips in support of His diety. It's not about the wine as much as it is about obedience. Thank you.

  • A disciple on John 2 - 7 years ago
Charlotte; Wine has always what it is! Haven't you read how Noah got drunk? Wine is not a sin, nor any drink, in and of itself; but the drunkard is the sinner: if someone can drink with a good conscience toward God and his neighbor, and not use it for debauchery and excess! As Saints of Jesus we are not forbidden to drink wine or liquor of any kind, if it be with moderation and respect for others.
  • Charlotte on John 2 - 7 years ago
I believe the wine today is very different from wine in Jesus' day. Back in Jesus day there was no refrigeration system so wine and water was there was to drink. Wine in Jesus' day was not fermented as it is today. Trying to use the Bible to justify consuming alcoholic beverages to get drunk is just wrong/sin.
  • A disciple on John 2 - 7 years ago
S Green; If you are scandalized by drinking wine, and if YOU get drunk that easy and are afraid of losing control, then by all means, DON'T DO IT, don't drink wine! But the Scriptures don't say that Jesus turned water into fruit juice, but into wine, "which maketh glad the heart of man." It was a miracle of blessing of the poor representing the NEW WINE of the Glad Tidings, to start His Ministry!
  • S Green on John 2 - 7 years ago
The same Greek word "oikos" is used for grapes and grape juice wine vinegar and alcoholic wine and are all translated as "wine". We know that Jesus never sinned and that drunkeness is a sin therefore we can conclude that the kind of wine that Jesus miraculously made was not an alcoholic kind. Also it did not say the guests were drunk but that they had drunk. Past tense of drink
  • Ray321 on John 2 - 7 years ago
John 2:24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, Jesus knows our hearts.
  • Reinaldo Ortiz on John 2 - 7 years ago
John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. All of Disciples did not understand Jesus or Jesus hid it from there hearts.
  • A disciple on John 2 - 7 years ago
Practical Christianity does take care for the natural comforts of this life. We are not made of stone, and the LORD never intended us to think, either of ourselves or others, in that way. In Matthew 25 for example, what will separate the saved from the damned will be HOW WE TOOK CARE OF ONE ANOTHER in natural and practical ways! Its not always to "spiritualize" the things; but love is spiritual!
  • Ray321 on John 2 - 7 years ago
1 Timothy 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre. We all know that bring drunk is a sin. 1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. Wine is good if sick. The wine is the symbol of Jesus's blood.
  • Ray321 on John 2 - 7 years ago
At that last meal, Jesus Christ told His disciples to eat bread and drink wine as symbols of His body and blood. Luke 22:20 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. The Lord's table, wine for blood, bread for body. Give Thanks
  • A disciple on John 2 - 7 years ago
"THIS first miracle!" The first that Jesus does in showing His power is to show that God brings the best for making glad the heart of man; the good wine! gallons and gallons of the best wine! The Lord is not penny-pinching with this young couple on the day of the gladness of their heart; and He loves to give happiness and comfort for good and wholesome things, that He has made for us to enjoy.
