John chapter 20 happened before the day of Pentecost. Pentecost meaning 50th.
Clouds are an obstruction of vision. The veil was a form of obstruction of vision. All the host of heaven were created at a different time, than Adam and Eve. The host of heaven God brought them into play as needed. Jesus would say to them I knew you from the beginning.

Anne; thank you for your good words! Without faith it is impossible to please Him! God has ordained that we should be saved by BELIEVING the Word told us by other men. So then, unbelief is disobedience! Jesus reproached the disciples for unbelief and hardness of heart, because they didn't believe those who told them that He was risen from the dead! Faith is about a kind of character toward God.
  • Anne on John 20 - 7 years ago
Thomas was not with the disciples when Jesus came among them and spoke to them and showed them his hands and side. Therefore, when he was told by the others that Jesus was risen, needed faith to believe it for himself. Today, we must have faith to believe that Christ is risen indeed. For without faith it is impossible to please God and with the heart man believeth unto righteousness...( Heb. 11:6).

Hi Cheryl; I think the answer you look for is in the verse itself! "I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written...but these are written that you might believe" The Holy Spirit moved the holy Apostles and Prophets of the Lord to write everything that they did. The Lord has very much more to say to us when we are able to bear it!
  • Shirley on John 20 - 7 years ago
God did. The word of God is inspired by the Holy Ghost.
  • Cheryl on John 20 - 7 years ago
Why aren't the other signs that Jesus did as stated in verse 30 are not written in this book , who decide not to include them

1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. I thank God that I will not be in the 7 year tribulation or the second coming, Jesus will call me up in the clouds. RAPTURE

To Peter okebukola. U stated that beautifully. Thank u Jesus
  • Peter A. Okebukola on John 20 - 7 years ago
Thank you Jesus for sacrificing for my sin. Jesus appeared several times to those who were present at the time of his death especially His disciples and Mother. He will appear to us all during His second coming and all eyes shall see Him. Verse 31: "that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." Praise be to His Holy Name.

Alfred - you, basically, repeated exactly what I said about Mary's not touching Jesus. I guess you read what I said the wrong way ..... ?

  • Molly on John 20 - 7 years ago
I wonder why the Bible doesn't tell us about the many other things done by Jesus during the time between the resurrection and the Ascension? We do know, from the book of James, that Jesus went to preach to the souls in prison -- fulfilling the Scripture "every ear shall hear and every tongue confess"...Perhaps there were others who received direct teaching by Him, as did Saul/Paul.
  • Bruce on John 20 - 8 years ago
Alfred: Acts 14:22.--- We must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. --after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened--- powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory and then shall he send his angels,---together His elect---. Mark 13:24-27
  • Irene123 on John 20 - 8 years ago
Jn. 20:28 - "And Thomas answered Him and said, "My Lord and my God." Matt. 13:13; Thomas was a Jew, Jesus was a Jew - Deut. 6:4 - The LORD thy GOD .... " (shema).
  • Irene123 on John 20 - 8 years ago
Jesus didn't 'say' - don't touch me because of injuries; He said, "Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father." Rev. 22:18-19. We must be VERY careful about ASSUMING things for His word that are not documented in His word.
  • Irene123 on John 20 - 8 years ago
    V. - it has been mentioned on here (2014) that Thomas actually touched Jesus' wounds. The Bible doesn't say such, only that Jesus 'offered'; Thomas could SEE them; that may have been enough, even though Thomas said, "unless I touch ....."; we need to be more circumspect about what we say about God's word; we need to stop and think on what we read.
  • Jubilee Smith on John 20 - 8 years ago
Thomas' 8 days of unbelief. What a waste. These 8 days could have been spent in the praise of the resurrected King. It could have been spent in sharing the gospel. Alas! it was spent in unbelieve.
  • Jean Norris on John 20 - 8 years ago
One of the questions mentions which apostle was not with the rest when Jesus first showed himself. The answer was Thomas; however, another name was a correct answer. Paul was not an apostle at that time.

    WOW! JUST WOW!
  • Muqbool on John 20:17 - 9 years ago
When Mary recognised her Lord her first reaction was to hug him full of emotion. Jesus pleaded with her to be mindful of his wounds and internal injuries as he was still alive and in the same body.
  • Bozki on John 20 - 9 years ago
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ...This chapter is the Highlight of our Faith to our Lord Jesus christ, That is why as a Believer and a True follower of Christ we must share to World that the God that we believed in is the God of Life and Ressurection, We must share to the world that only Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God the Father that Whosoever beleiveth on Him shall not Perish but have EVERLASTING LIFE....Amen and Amen......God Bless....
  • George Wagner on John 20:17 - 9 years ago
I sent a comment on this verse on the 20th. I believe salvation is so pure that Jesus would not allow anyone to touch Him after His ressurection until His high priestly job was complete and He returned to earth and then and only then allowed human contact.I would like to add this thought to clarify about my sharing the gospel,I believe that we gain wisdom and understanding the more our hearts have a burden for others, I would not tell people about salvation if I didn 't care about their eternal soul. I believe salvation is so pure that God had a pure and perfect plan. God bless!
  • George Wagner on John 20:17 - 9 years ago
I personally believe that Jesus became officially the "Christ ", after the ressurection. He was only called the "Christ " once, and that was when Peter said "thou art the "Christ " the son of the living God. He at the resurrection became our high priest, and was on a mission to present the precious Blood to the Holy of Holes in Heaven. Just like our examples in the old testament, when the priest had to wash and present himself to be clean before he would enter into the Holy of Holies. "Christ " also had to present Himself into the Holy of Holies totally spotless from this world. When He came back He allowed people to touch Him, His work was complete and Salvation plan was finished, once and forever. Amen, God bless all who read this! I personally have shared the plan of salvation thousands of times, and lead hundreds to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and that makes me qualified to write this!
  • Dennis on John 20:31 - 9 years ago
Michele, there are some places in Scripture that would seem to teach what you are saying, yet the whole tenor of Scripture is that one is "freely justified by his grace. " Now, the evidence of being saved is that one no longer wants to sin nor sees salvation as a license to sin, but there is remaining corruption in the best of us - see Romans 7, please.
  • Clinton on John 20:23 - 9 years ago
Jesus was showing them the responsibility that The Church would later have of sharing the Gospel of Grace that would save whosoever believed. If anyone did not believe, their sin remained. All sins past, present and future are forgiven once we believe in the risen Christ.
  • James Taylor on John 20:17 - 9 years ago
I think that statement is a result of protecting her from radiation. Until he ascended unto the Father for decontamination. He could not be touched by earthly beings. He ascended to the Father before he let Thomas touch Him. Then He returned to complete His earthly mission. mistranslation. something sei
