I tend to believe that the name of God is Christ. What would you say about that.
  • Clint on John 5 - 12 years ago
Sure, having the Spirit of God would help you to believe this miracle. Not having the Spirit of God means youll never believe!

It is possible for men to be very studious in the letter of the Scriptures, yet to be strangers to its power.

A question should arise in ones mind when they read this verse. I come in my fathers name. What is the fathers name? when you look in the back of some bibles it says. When ever you see the words lord and god the original reads Yahweh. So my point is knowing that gods name Is Yahweh his son has come in his fathers name. If my name was john, and my son said that he came in my name his name would be john too.

I think it give you more incentive,to study and
    devote more time comparing scripture.

"An angel went down and troubled the water..." that is, so they supposed. The meaning is, that such was the popular opinion; for that God would really thus miraculously interpose, to throw down, from time to time, a single boon among a company of cripples, to be seized by the most forward, selfish, and eager, leaving those most discouraged, helpless, and miserable, to be overwhelmed again and again with bitter disappointment, is a supposition not admissible. The foregoing is from the Abbott New Testament Commentary. This recorded incident cannot be an action of the God of love. It is inconceivable that God would pit disabled and distressed people against one another to receive physical healing. There is no scriptural precedent for anything like this.
Some corrupt and perverted translations have, "angel of the Lord." NO, NO, NO if anything this is one of Satan's angels. Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

"Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God." ( John 5:18) God is one, but some refused to receive Jesus as God, holding only to God the Father. No one can have the Father without the Son, and any one without the Spirit has not the Son. ( Romans 8:9)
  • Luke on John 5 - 13 years ago
For me this is very good instruction.I can not just read a passage and instantly know its entire meaning. most of the time i have to read re-read and then read it some more.Sometimes a day or a few days will go by and suddenly the meaning of a verse will become crystal clear due to some action in life that i have witnessed. There is so much wisdom in the good book.Any given verse is open to interpretation. When i read i begin by praying that the lord will show me the definition as he intends it-The true definition. From time to time i will read scripture and understand it a certain way only to later read the same scripture and see it in a completly different light.I can not take the bible and read it and apply only what i favor to my life and expect to see heaven. As if its correct to read and agree with the book of John but disregard the book of Luke entirely for whatever fleshly wisdom i think justifies it.That is not how it works.
Man shall not come unto the father unless he first comes through the son.The bible(basic instructions before leaving earth)is full of commandments, parables, proverbs and psalms. We all fall short of the glory of god.It is my duty to try with my feeble mind to understand the wisdom in all the pages of the book.If i read it everyday for the rest of my life, even going over it again and again and again.I still may not comprehend all that it contains. But i hunger for the truth. The journey for me is about becoming less fleshly and more spiritual in my thoughts and actions. My aim is to write the word of the lord upon my heart so deeply and indellibly that it will always reside there. The task is never "over".It's my belief that "coming from the right place" is important when trying to absorb the wisdom in the bible. We have to renew it in our minds and hearts everyday. When i think more like the bible teaches us and less like a man of the world who relies on his own "wisdom" Then maybe i will come to understand his teachings on a larger scale and see him everywhere i look.maybe then when i listen i will hear(shamoia tishka) him.And when i look i will truly see him.Rather than listen but not hear and look but remain blind to his ways.
I think Jesus is saying that we must seek him with all our hearts and minds and strength and not rely on our "wordly wisdom" to define or hold him to any "rules". He is from above and we are not.We should seek to understand him completely for his word knows no days or monthes or years. His word is timeless and applies to all who live have lived and will live.Only when we make his teachings our lifes goal can we pass from the dead unto life everlasting. It is not enough to say we believe when we do not or to say we follow his commandments when we follow some but not others of his commandments. This process for me is the turning away from our sins and turning towards the light of God.We have to learn how to be rightous by following the example of Jesus. Its not a suit that we buy and then dress ourselves in.These are only my humble opinions.I am here because i seek him and have much to learn.Thank you for the excellent website and a place to study and compare notes with others of the same goal.

Dear Dan, The ones that Christ referred to pertaining to the dead 'HEARING' His voice, were those that had died IN FAITH in God's Word, thus promises, pertaining to that which was to come, prior to Christ coming into the world in the form of a man; in the likeness of sinful flesh, to die for the sins of mankind. All those that had died prior to His coming, who HEARD God's Word; words, in the way that means to BELIEVE God's Word; to thus have faith in God's Word, are all those who's souls went down into the midst of the earth, not into Hell, but nevertheless in a particular grave site, where death held them hostage, as they waited for the prophesied; foretold, coming Messiah; Saviour. As, the Lord had promised them, saying:

Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with MY DEAD BODY shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

1 Corinthians 15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste DEATH FOR EVERY MAN.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Acs 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Romans 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

After Christ came OUT of that fleshly body; the form of a man; the likeness of sinful flesh, He THEN went to the part of the midst of the earth that is Hell, and TOOK AWAY from Satan the KEYS of Hell and Death!

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

THEN He want to another part of the midst of the earth where all those souls that had BELIEVED God; believed the Word of God preached to them, and had thus died in faith, looking forward to the coming Saviour; Redeemer; Messiah, slept; rested, waiting for Him to come. And He took them, who were all held CAPTIVE by death, in the grave, all CAPTIVE UNTO HIMSELF, and AROSE, with them, they with HIM, from the dead:

As prophesied in the Old Testament:

Ezekiel 37:13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

He FULFILLED that prophesy in the New Testament, upon rising from the dead:

Matthew 27:50 Jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

    51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

52 And THE GRAVES WERE OPENED; and many bodies of the saints which slept AROSE,

53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led CAPTIVITY captive, and gave gifts unto men.

Since our Saviour; Redeemer; Messiah, is come in the flesh:

John 1: 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

    this is a touching verse!

I liked when Christ spoke of them that slept (the dead) would hear his voice. That puts into perpective that people are not simply linked to Heaven when they die but the go somewhere. "For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead"

Oh course Jesus is equal w/ God... He is God

    Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1 John 1:13 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Any other doctine is a lie.
