Hi Johnnie. The Book of Jasher is not in the biblical canon. The history of it is that there used to be a book of a similar name (Book of Jasher) as quoted in Joshua 10:12,13 and 2 Samuel 1:18-27, but that book as been lost into antiquity. However, the lament that David expressed for the loss of Saul & Jonathan & his teaching the children of Judah in the use of the bow, was also recorded in this Book of Jasher.
But when we refer to the Book of Jasher today, it appears that it is actually an 18th Century forgery, alleging to be a translation of that original lost book, therefore there is no value in pursuing such a search, or if some translation is found, it is to be highly suspected.
The Entrance of THY words on Joshua 8 - 5 years ago
Imagine how amazing it would have been for half a million people to SHOUT the blessings on Gerizim, and half a million people to SHOUT the curses on Ebal!!
"..I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:" For those who are familiar with the Scriptures, you have noted how significant an issue it is with God about the heathen that have ruined the world since the flood, and their great city and tower and all that they have imagined against the LORD, and His Anointed. Israel was to be God's Army to overcome them.
"And the Lord said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up.." Joshua did not inquire of the LORD before the disaster at Ai; just as would later happen with the men of Gibeon. Now that the holiness and obedience has been restored, the LORD gives specific guidance, and assures victory. We must pray first and set all in order before God.
Chapter 8 reminds the believer to be diligent in terms of following GOD 'S directives. By following HIS directives, we will remain conquerors in the face of the most severe battles!
THERE WAS A REASON FOR SUCH A SMART MILITARY MOVE THAT GOD HAD JOSHUA MAKE AGAINST THEIR ENEMIES. WITHOUT GODS LEADING THEY WOULD HAVE PERISHED ,BY THE HAND OF THESE ENIMIES ,AND NOT HAVE REACHED GOD 'S DESTANY FOR THEM TO THIS DAY .
I believe we must hold onto God during stuff times, against all attacks they may come upon us. In this Chapter there are five words that are repeated which gives me hope, " And it came to pass ". So whatever battle we are facing it will pass in the name of Jesus!
what happened to love thy neighbour i guess it wasn t manditory back in the day if god had the power to let joshua take on the people of ai and win why couldn t it be done peacefully
Have you actually pondered on the reasons and the effect of the spear the Lord asked Joshua to stretched out towards Ai? To me, the spear jerked those soldiers in ambush into action and at the same time connotes total elimination of the heathen nation, Ai. Joshua never withdrew his hand until a land-slide victory was achieved. We need to fear this God. He is indeed a 'Man' of war.
God promises all a life that is victorious, that's if we obey every word He tells us. On a contrary to victorious life following our obedience before Him, He announces defeat unto us if we turn our back to his decrees. Every man must learn to hold fast to whatever God asks us to do or else, he shall suffer consequences.
But when we refer to the Book of Jasher today, it appears that it is actually an 18th Century forgery, alleging to be a translation of that original lost book, therefore there is no value in pursuing such a search, or if some translation is found, it is to be highly suspected.
I pray that all might see that the KJV 1611 is the only way.
Man has changed God's word, not God.
May God Bless you and yours.
