DWL, my apologies, I understood your question differently: a weakness in written expression. No, I don't believe that Jesus was deceitful in any way, shape or form. The fact that he He is God's Son & wanted to express Himself to the Father, particularly in these agonizing hours prior to His crucifixion, only serves to show His agony as a Man & One Who looked to His Father for comfort. Jesus is God come to us in the flesh & this is where you may be seeing and/or raising the conflict. So, would this be the focus of your enquiry: why does Jesus as God in the flesh, pray to (a) God in Heaven? Or, why should He pray at all, if He were God? Sorry, I can't appreciate the gist of your enquiry.

DWL. Is there something in that verse that causes you to believe that Jesus may have been deceitful in His prayer to the Father? I've read that passage many times over & fail to see where the deception or pretence lies. Maybe, the different content in each prayer, or maybe, Him praying the same prayer twice? I can't see it.
I do not know how my post ended up reading something other than what I typed. What I remember posting was that I don't believe that Jesus was being deceitful. If you cut out the entire Song of Solomon part, add in what I just said here, and begin at 1 Peter 2:22 to the end, that is what I remember typing. I'm not sure how that ended up there?
I don't believe so. 1 Peter 2:22, says, "Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:" The word guile in the Greek text is the word Dolos, which means deceit. Jesus could never sin, nor could He ever be deceitful.
Remember to use this scripture if you ever come across a Jehovah's Witness, as it completely debunks their shunning doctrine especially regarding family.

When we sin, so many times, we do not see it for ourselves. The son that had stayed with the the father, was full of pride, and it blinded him. Yes, sometimes, we look at things in a earthly way, but never look on why are we feeling this way, and if you do, the road leads back to sin in our hearts. God is not a respecter of persons. I love reading the KJV of the Bible. your commentary and discussion words a good to read along with reading the scriptures.. after reading these helps, I like to go back and read the KJV of His Presence Word and it has a deepen meaning in my heart.
Verse 32~The loving father was trying to encourage the older son to be forgiving. His brother was spiritually dead and the father was happy that he repented and was not literally dead. We must show mercy to those who are repentant.
One thing is clearly missing from the younger son's repentance and return to his father; and that is the popular but unscriptural idea of "accepting Jesus!" When he came to himself and saw his dreadful condition as it truly was; the result of his sins! He saw himself as unfit to even be called a son! He didn't say, O father, now I accept you! but, Father, I am not worthy, BUT PLEASE ACCEPT ME!

The comparison between "one sinner that repents," and, "just persons who need no repentance," is not to say that there is a class of people who don't need to repent; but that holier than thou despising of others IS NOT THE ATTITUDE OF HEAVEN!

Son of David; I like your kind and non-condemning way to look at it, but I think the younger son was rather looking for the party than a way to make his living. He squandered all his money on sin and selfishness, and brought disgrace to his father's name; and his repentance was marked by acknowledging the truth that he was not fit to be called anymore a son, and acceptance of his punishment.
