I will give you my view and I will extend to vs 37.
vs 36-37 is where the answer is.
"Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, THITHER WILL THE EAGLES BE GATHERED TOGETHER.
Now parallel it with.
Revelation 19:11-18. "focusing on vs 17."
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
( vs14) And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, CLOTHED IN FINE LINEN, WHITE AND CLEAN.
(Parallels with; Jude 1:14.)
Those clothed in fine linen is the same group in Revelation 19:7.
THIS GROUP IS THE BRIDE OF CHRIST. THE CHURCH!!
15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
17) And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the FOWLS THAT FLY IN THE MIDST OF HEAVEN, COME AND GATHER YOURSELVES TOGETHER unto the supper of the great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
THIS GROUP IS TAKEN FOR JUDGMENT.
This is after the tribulation and the Church comes with him, They were raptured atleast 7 years prior.
Those left goes on into the Millennium. Those taken, Judgment as well in Matthew 24.
We can have assurance from the account of Noah and from the passing over of the Israelites so as they were not afflicted with the plagues of Egypt nor the death of the firstborn. We can rest in God knowing how He parted the Red Sea to have the Israelites pass through on dry land and how God delivered the enemies in Canaan into the hands of the Israelites when the nation entered the promised land to possess all it as God promised (see Joshua 21:43) God fulfilled all fo the promised He had made to the Israelites ( Joshua 23:15)
God is faithful and able to preserve us or rescue us or make us stand in the day of trouble. But we also must remember that our Lord and Paul and Peter said that we will suffer also, be persecuted, arrested, tried legally, and martyred for His Name's sake. Jesus said we would be hated by men just as they hated himself. We should pray for God to prepare us for such hardships that He may allow us to experience. We certainly should pray that we will hold fast in the face of martyrdom.
The fire that brings destruction spoken of in Peter's epistles is pretty disturbing to consider, but I think this firs is intended for the evil unbelievers, not for the believers. When Jesus returns once again with a shout, with the trumpet call, with the voice of an archangel, with a tempest like lightening, with exceeding brightness and manifest glory, we will look up, as He instructs us in Luke 21:28 for our redemption is come. we will be changed (if alive at this time) or resurrrected, if we have died. At that time, we will be glorified and can no longer be harmed by anything that comes upon the earth! Hallelujah!
Adam, I will pray for you as you seek to find out the truth of Scriptures concerning the end times, as I pray that for myself, too.
I plan to believe everything that is plainly and explicitly taught in Scripture concerning the return of Christ and what happens before that, and also not readily embrace ideas that are not.
Brother David has made several comments about God's words being parables.
You have said God's words are often metaphors.
Revelation says his words are symbols.
2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and earth ....
There are LITERAL heavens and earth; but, they are also metaphors and symbols in a parable.
heaven and earth are MAN, earth being the carnal form of man where deception rules, heaven being the born again man where truth and life rule.
We are the GARDEN OF (eden) GOD where the ONE TREE that bears BOTH the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL is in the MIDST thereof.
Man; made of EARTH (dust), has to be destroyed, and become a creation of Spirit, the new heaven and new earth.
2 Peter 3:7 But the heavens and earth, which are now, by the SAME WORD (that made them earth) are keep in store (since the day or resurrection) reserved unto fire against the day of JUDGEMENT ...
For you and I and all others alive at this given moment; we are being JUDGED by the written word's of God, if you don't believe his words: DEATH and the GRAVE; if you believe HIS WORDS, you become a SON OF GOD.
Christ is THE WORD OF JUDGEMENT, and the FIRE (a metaphor and symbol) that does the JUDGING.
Judges 6:21 And the angel of the Lord (Christ) put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touch the FLESH (dust of the earth) and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up FIRE out of the ROCK (symbolic of Christ) and CONSUMED the FLESH (dust of the earth) and unleavened cakes ......
Christ was the FIRE in the bush in the wilderness, he was the ROCK in the wilderness.
Hebrews 12:29 Our God is a CONSUMING FIRE
Christ is THE WORD
Your being JUDGED NOW BY the WORD and FIRE, and if you will JUDGE YOURSELF NOW; by God's words, you want be judged with the world.
1 Corinthians 11:31 If we would judge ourselves NOW, we should not be judged.
John 12:48 .... the words I have spoken (from Genesis thru Revelation), the same will judge him .....
We have to understand the difference between taken and left.
Sin (unbelief) governs OUR FLESH, the wages of SIN (unbelief) is death, the "GIFT" of belief is eternal LIFE.
So man is either consumed by unbelief, and goes to the grave, to await the second resurrection: or he believes he and Christ were resurrected TOGETHER; becoming ONE NEW CREATION, and will NEVER SEE DEATH, because he has ALREADY DIED on the CROSS with CHRIST.
ONE will be TAKEN in DEATH, and go to the grave: ONE will be LEFT, never to SEE DEATH, dwelling in the presence of GOD.
Luke 20:36 Neither can they DIED ANYMORE (you DIED with Christ): for THEY (the one's LEFT, and will never see the grave) are EQUAL unto the angels (omnipresent, glorified bodies); and are the children of God (God can't die), being the children of (Christ's) RESURRECTION.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who hath PART in the first (Christ's) resurrection, on such the second death hath NO POWER ...
Hi Ernie, I usually avoid end times discussions as its not a salvation issue and is mostly speculation and sometimes unfruitful, but am happy to share my current opinion. For years I assumed the good were raptured and those that remain will face tribulation- perhaps including fire that destroys the earth before it is made anew. The Left Behind book/movie series depicts it this way.
However, someone on this forum shared evidence for another view and it seemed compelling. I will need to research more and find those verses, but there is support for the wicked to be the ones raptured. Romans 8.21.
In this section of Luke 17:32-33 it says to remember Lot's wife and says who ever wants to keep their life will lose it, etc. It is phrased in a way where wicked may be the ones losing their life before Christ followers. Then Jesus appears and those asleep in the grave will rise and meet Jesus in the air, then judgment day before eternal life. That is the sequence of events as I currently understand them based on the scripture evidence I've seen. What I'm uncertain in how it fits its destroying the earth by fire. 2 Peter 3:7. For this to fit, if wicked are destroyed first with fire, it would seem to take a miracle to not hurt the followers, or a selective fire of some kind. God bless.
There are many "numbers" being toss about with no Biblical reference: 7000 being the elected Jews? Acts 2 was used, but only 3000 were saved and baptized v41. Later in the same chapter many were saved, however no exact number v47 "and the LORD added to the church daily such as should be saved."
A reference was made to Revelation 7, but even there John writes of the 144,000; 12,000 from each tribe.
I found from 1 Kings 19: 18: GOD reminds Elijah "...yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Ball, and every mouth which hath not kissed him."
GOD to shine HIS face and bless all on this forum. HIS countenance to be great upon all the saints and give you peace.
Let us pray for salvation of our leadership and the lost and confused. May we put first the desire of the LORD.
Matthew 28: 18-20; 2 Peter 3:9; Titus 2: 13- 15; 1 John 5:3
Rose let me give ya my thoughts on Luke 17 :34 & 36...Peter tells us we must be bornagain of an incorruptible seed even by the words of God...And that y Jesus wants to sow his precious seed in our hearts that it might initiate a heavenly Birth of Christ in us....But Satan wants to sow a tare in our hearts....MAKING US 2 PPL, Then we are involved in a warfare..Kingdom against Kingdom...Then there is war in heaven..With in us..In our hearts and minds...Thats where the good seed is sown....But they asked Jesus master did you not sow good seed in your field....Jesus said an enemy has done this...Thats y Paul was saying with my mind (the wheat ) i serve the law of God but with my flesh ( the tare ) the law of sin....When i wd do good good evil is present with me...O wretched man that i am....Paul had become 2 persons b/c of the tare.
Thats y Jesus said the kingdom of heaven suffers violence....but the violent take it by force....The Wheat is gona take it by force...This kingdom against Kingdom war is gona be won by the wheat which is the H.G...The manchild that is gona rule all nations.
.....Thus the 2 men in 1 bed is just 1 man that has been bornagain by the good seed but within his heart there is another man the TARE Satan .....one is gonna be taken and one is gonna be burnt to ashes.....Jesus said i will say to the reapers gather up the tares in bundles and BURN THEM....But the wheat to my barn the kingdom....Remember Paul said i see another law in my members waring against my mind etc..which was the tare...Paul had become 2 ppl spiritually speaking.
.....Same thing with the 2 woman grinding at the mill is just 1 woman that has been bornagain....But satan has sown a tare in her heart making her 2 woman...But 1 is gona be taken and 1 is gona beleft....Jesus said that the tares are gona be gathered in bundles and burnt.
......Same thing with the 2 men in the field is just 1 man that is involved in a war with satan and his tares...Remember John saw War in heaven.
I do not believe in a pre-trib. rapture. The following verse would suggest that believers will see the anti-christ which takes us through chapter 14 of Revelation. 2 Thessalonians 2 1-3,Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; It appears the saints are still on earth in Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. Maybe the reason the church isn't mentioned in Revelation is she has defiled herself with the whore of Revelation 17 & 18. Maybe just isolated pockets of believers at that time within the so called church. Remember in the first part of Revelation Jesus said he would remove their candlestick if they didn't repent. Just some thoughts.
In the end times during the great tribulation (Many) will bow to the anti-christ (Baal being a type of)pretending to be the true Christ, except for God's Very Election/The 7000 who will stand against the anti-christ,,, those who God have reserved for this very day,,, 7000 is a figure of speech, it's symbolic of the biblical number 7 which means perfection (multiplied)
Romans told you God had reserved these Election.
And in Acts 2 tells us what these Election who are alive and remain do in the end times.
since These Elect will not bow to the false messiah,,, they get delivered up unto.
These Elect in that day will be of One mind together speaking the words of the Holy Spirit, a tongue like a double edged sword that cuts both ways.
Luke, I read the context before and after Romans 11:4. Romans is written by Paul, but he is referencing God. The 7000 is referring to Jews. To this day, how many Jews accepted Yeshua as their Messiah? I seen a video by a Gentile street preacher, who made the mistake of preaching Jesus the Christ in Jerusalem. Immediately, there was a violent reaction by a Jew. He kept spitting and yelling at the street preacher.
I agree with U Rose , In verse 31 and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back (to the things behind).
32 Remember Lot's wife, she looked back.
33 Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose it shall preserve it alive. ( this is when God's elect makes a stand against the anti-christ)
34 I tell you, in that (night) there shall be two persons upon one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. ( The one doing the taking "at night" is the anti-christ) key word is "night" what comes before day? the night, one shall be taken by the anti-christ, the other shall remain,,, left behind is false teaching by many,,,, be the one left behind.
35 Two women shall be grinding to the same end; the one shall be taken, and the other left." ( One will be taken in the deception by the anti-christ, the other left behind)
36 Two men shall be in the field; (field being The World) the one shall be taken, and the other left. (Harkening diligently unto the voice of our Lord God) The Rapture is a Soul Hunt!
Are you saying of all the generations of all the people since Biblical time, only 7000 are saved? Nothing in Acts 2 says anything about 7000. I'm thinking this number refers to the Jews.
Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
Once the 144,000 are sealed with the seal of God, the 5th trump sounds, Satan's fallen angels are here.
God's very elect are the 7,000 from all races, Acts 2
Romans 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
What did God tell Satan & his angels, Touch not My Elect, that have the seal of God in their forehead
Revelation 9:4 And it was commanded them (Satan & his angels) that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
Those who have the seal of God(Sealed)during the Hour of Temptation will not be touched by this wrath, which IS the wrath of God.
All who are alive and remain go through the tribulation, question is DO YOU HAVE THE SEAL???
You're not alone in thinking you will go through this time of God's wrath. I personally believe in Pre-Trib because 1 Thessalonians 5:9 says, "For God has not appointed us to wrath, (that is judgment), but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,"
Paul is saying, "Don't let people come in there and tell you that you're in the tribulation period and you're going to have to go through this terrible time. God hasn't appointed us for that. He's appointed us for salvation. When I read the chapters in Revelation that talk about the tribulation, there's no mention of the church. Where's the church? If the church is here during this time, why is the church not mentioned?
If I may ask, if this happens during our lifetime (Even so, come Lord Jesus), and you believe you will be here, according to the Bible, what would God have you doing during this time?
Did you know that there will be two future resurrections? One will be when Christ comes for His church (Rapture), where all believers who have died will be resurrected to meet the Lord in the air. (1 Thessalonians Chapter 4). Non-believers are not taken at the rapture. They do not belong to Christ.
Please know that the rapture is not the second coming of Christ. At the rapture, Christ does not come all the way to the earth. We (Believers) meet Him in the air. There will be a second resurrection after the 1,000-year reign of Christ. That will be for all the wicked dead who rejected Jesus Christ.
My understanding is that at the rapture, the dead in Christ rise first, and then we (believers) who are alive on the earth when Christ comes for His bride (The church), we will be caught up also to meet the Lord in the air. Again, this is not His second coming. During the time of tribulation (God's wrath being poured out), we, as His bride, will be participating at the marriage feast in heaven. And then Christ comes back to the earth (His second coming) and we come back with Him. That's found in Rev. Chapter 19.
I don't believe in the pre-trib "rapture". I believe the believers are going to be here during the 7 years of tribulation. At the time of Christ's second coming, is when the dead and the living believers will be taken up in the clouds.
Hi Carl. There was a leper in Syria, a captain of the King's army, who was healed of his leprosy by God through the prophet Elisha. You can read about it in 2 Kings chapter 5. Don't know if this story comes close to what you're looking for.
The One Leper Who Followed Through and Came Back - In Reply on Luke 17 - 2 years ago
Matthew Henry's Commentary on the one leper who came back to give thanks and praise:
11-19 A sense of our spiritual leprosy should make us very humble whenever we draw near to Christ. It is enough to refer ourselves to the compassions of Christ, for they fail not. We may look for God to meet us with mercy, when we are found in the way of obedience. Only one of those who were healed returned to give thanks. It becomes us, like him, to be very humble in thanksgivings, as well as in prayers. Christ noticed the one who thus distinguished himself, he was a Samaritan. The others only got the outward cure, he alone got the spiritual blessing.
[mishael]. I didn't see a Kings house in this passage, in Luke.
In Luke 17:37, Jesus is talking about that day when people are going to gather together in the Valley outside of Jerusalem to fight against Christ at His coming. Remember the birds are going to be called in to feed on their carcasses. These people have been drawn out into the battle. So He is talking about His day.
I'd like to also share with you my perspective on Luke 17:9-10.
In Luke 17:9, Jesus says " Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him?"Jesus said, I think not.
Verse 10: So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
So if you ever get into a position, a mind frame or an attitude in life that you think that things are going wrong and that God owes you, just remember that when we serve Him day and night, we are only doing what He asked us to do. It is not a bonus.
Then He says we are unprofitable servants.
The Greek word for unprofitable is useless. Useless! At our best in our human effort we are useless. But when God gives us the faith He does great things. But you see it's not to our credit. It is what God does through us, and if God works through us all day and all night, that is all to His credit. If we did it, we'd just be unprofitable servants only doing the minimum.
Anyway, that's what I understand this to be saying!
In previous Chapters we see Jesus is talking to many different people from different backgrounds, educations & walks in life:
Luke 14, Luke 15:1,2, Luke 16:1,14,
Luke 15:3 =3 parables prior have to do with GOD's goodness, amazing mercy & love for HIS lost children. Luke 15:4-32,
Luke 16, continues as Jesus is talking to the disciples, Luke 16:1, yet you see the others appear to still be there. Luke 16:14,
A steward is someone trusted with things, property, belongings (even teachings) that don't belong to them, they are trusted to maintain, keep, watch-over, protect, grow etc. In this parable Jesus seems to be pointing out the wrongs done.
Luke 16:8, notice Luke 16:9-13, if you go back to Luke 14, they appear to be at one of the Cheif Phariees house throughout these chapters. Luke 14:1, (Pharisee known for being very strict religious of GOD's written laws) therefore being a "steward" of GOD's written laws, including teaching, nextJesus speaks of the rich man, that showed no mercy. Luke 16:19-31, I believe Jesus is rebuking the "rich teachers, stewards" yet also teaching HIS disciples to be wiser to what is going on.
Please allow me to correct a mistake I made.
I mentioned to you to take
Luke 17:34-37 and Parallel it with Revelation 19:11-18 Focusing on vs 17. On your way to verse 17 notice verrse 14.
Revelation 19:14.
"And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, CLOTHED IN FINE LINEN, WHITE AND CLEAN.
This is also prophesied in Jude 1:14.
These clothed in fine linen is the same group in
Revelation 19:7-8.
"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
(8) And to her was granted that SHE SHOULD BE ARRAYED IN FINE LINEN, CLEAN AND WHITE: FOR THE FINE LINEN IS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF SAINTS.
I left out one of the connecting verses. ( Vs 8.)
These are a few of the connecting verses why we believe the Church comes with Christ on his second coming.
Luke 17:37.
Revelation 19:17.
Jude 1:14.
Revelation 19:7-8.
God bless.
I will give you my view and I will extend to vs 37.
vs 36-37 is where the answer is.
"Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, THITHER WILL THE EAGLES BE GATHERED TOGETHER.

.....Thus the 2 men in 1 bed is just 1 man that has been bornagain by the good seed but within his heart there is another man the TARE Satan .....one is gonna be taken and one is gonna be burnt to ashes.....Jesus said i will say to the reapers gather up the tares in bundles and BURN THEM....But the wheat to my barn the kingdom....Remember Paul said i see another law in my members waring against my mind etc..which was the tare...Paul had become 2 ppl spiritually speaking.
.....Same thing with the 2 woman grinding at the mill is just 1 woman that has been bornagain....But satan has sown a tare in her heart making her 2 woman...But 1 is gona be taken and 1 is gona beleft....Jesus said that the tares are gona be gathered in bundles and burnt.
......Same thing with the 2 men in the field is just 1 man that is involved in a war with satan and his tares...Remember John saw War in heaven.
Are you asking for help with Luke 17:34-36?
Chapter 19.
However, I don't understand verses 34-36.
So He is talking about His day.
and without Hope now Sons of God and the Hope of the Return.
I love you all. We're familyJesus's bros and sisters! HAPPIER NEW YEAR.
Straight KJV Bible and a 3 inch wide Strongs Concordance. Mine smells so good I lay on it. Thank God the cat can't talk.
Hopefully this is helpful
