In Luke 4:4, the devil was appealing to Jesus' condition. He knew that Jesus was physically hungry from the 40 day fast and in verse 3 he was appealing to Jesus to make the stones turn to bread so that Jesus could satisfy His physical desire. Jesus says that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Wow! Yes, but you are hungry, physically hungry. But what an answer that Jesus gives.
I can look back and remember many times when I was either late or didn't show up someplace because I hadn't eaten yet. What is another hour? What is another two hours? But it is interesting that Jesus said no, you don't misuse the authority of God to fulfil the desires of the flesh, even though the desires of the flesh are going through its natural process. No food!
In Job 23:12, one of my favorite verses, Job says "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food."
Wow! God's word means more to me than my necessary food. Notice that he didn't say abundant food? He said it is my necessary food. God's word means more to me. Those words that come out of His mouth, I am more hungry for that than I am for physical food. So Satan challenges, and Jesus gives the citation.
The Grace of God and The Law - In Reply on Luke 4 - 3 years ago
There is Law, and there is Grace. Jesus was criticized for picking fruit on the Sabbath, or praying for the sick.
God made it more simple than some people realize. Whichever day your work week STARTS is your "Monday." Most people in the USA work a 5 day week, but if yours is different; you can choose your DAY OF REST. Which usually involves attending Church. Lunch can involve eating and discussing the sermon that morning. Make your own comments on it like we do here. Try not to delegate that. Everyone should should be able to comment upon the scriptures.
God is omnipresent so he's in all churches no matter what day or what time.
In Genesis it was work 6 days and then Sabbath: the Day of Rest. (Church day).
In our modern culture we work 5 days and play 2 days. Church may be optional in some families. :(
More important is to find a church you feel welcomed in; hear the Word of God in sermon; praises and worship; tithes; fellowship after.
Even better, get involved with some kind of "ministry" as a member of Christ's Body. The men usually have "breakfast meetings" some set day.
God is saying for us to Rest. Time to study the Bible. Pray for family or friends. Be kind to your wife.
I wish people would realize the Ten Commandments originated in the time of Moses. God covenanted with the children of Israel. It was in force until Jesus began his ministry. He reaffirmed the commandments in Matthew 5. Matthew 22:36-40. I think the Pharisees hated Jesus because he wasn't as strict as they. Loving each other and our neighbors is hard, for some people.
Consider these things and choose God. What did He say? How did Jesus respond? We're following Jesus, as his disciples in 2021. There is NOW no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
He's not going to gig us for what day we go to Church. We are under Grace. Period.
Being Flexible and Faithful to God too - In Reply on Luke 4 - 3 years ago
Sometimes we make it harder to understand. Many voices. Just as people nowadays may work in shifts.
God just desires we set aside the 7th day to spend with Him. Ideally at Church with other believers in a corporate gathering, so we can worship, pray for the sick and those with needs.
Some churches operate every day of the week in different capacities and ministries to the community around them. Sabbath means, Rest.
(from Hebrew shavat, "TO REST") is observed In Abrahamic religions, the Sabbath (/sb/) or Shabbat (Hebrew: ) is a day set aside for rest and worship.
If you are required to work on Sundays:
>>>The case does not say that Christians have no legal protection against having to work on Sundays. They have the same rights as any other religious group not to be discriminated against.
The Tribunal itself said in an opening paragraph:
"It is [not open to an employer] to require staff to work on Sunday and thereby cause disadvantage to those who are Christian "unless the employer can show the requirement is objectively justified." Just ask if your schedule can be changed, to be off on Sundays. Don't hire on and then demand a different schedule, if None is available. You'll lose legally if you push it.
God is way more flexible than people. He just wants us to rest in his love and spend time with Him (Bible). Attending Church is how we learn and grow up in Christ. However, if we do not practice "Family Altar Time with our children, and replace God with football games; they will not follow God willingly."
It's different for each individual. We are not under the Law; but under Grace. The 7th day after your work week started, is your Sabbath day. Google churches in your area and their meeting schedules. If you have split work schedules, you may have to accommodate to church meeting times.
It's to our advantage to attend Church when the church meets Corporately. If your family needs much prayer, for these crazy days we're living.
Reading your comment it seems you already know that. You have liberty
So go on and rest!!
Romans 14:4-5. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. LET EVERY MAN BE FULLY PERSUADED IN HIS OWN MIND.
Colossians 2:14-17. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
In the fourth commandment of the ten commandments, GOD says REMEMBER THE SABBATH AND KEEP IT HOLY, My question is, what day is the actual day of the sabbath. The bible says GOD created the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th... and we are also to use that day as the sabbath. Now it is said since the aposile gathered on the first day(after CHRIST death and resurection) we now worship the sabbath on the first day. Should I beleive in what the Apostles did and worship on a first-day sabbath or should I listen to what the word of GOD says in the old trstement? PLEASE help me because I want to do whay's right. 1rst day sabbath or 7th day sabbath and please explain to me why.
I'm unsure whether you've checked the Greek rendering of these passages, but they appear very similar, using the same root verb.
Gleaning from the Greek Lexicon, in Luke 4:1, the word is 'egeto' from the root, 'ago' (to lead, to bring, to carry).
In Luke 4:5: it is 'anagagon', from the root 'anago' (to lead up, to bring up). So the emphasis here is on the direction: 'Up'.
In Luke 4:9: it is 'egagen', again from the root 'ago' (to lead, to bring, to carry).
So, it seems from the Greek, the distinction is not very marked, as each of the references point to Jesus being led or directed by the Holy Spirit (into the wilderness), & in His temptation, led/taken/carried by Satan. It would also be correct to suggest that in all three instances, Jesus was miraculously removed from his original position to those other positions (viz. the wilderness, the mountain, & the temple's pinnacle), rather than Him walking or climbing to get there. So, I don't think we should be troubled that Jesus was somehow not in control of his Will to concede to the will of the others.
Adding to that frankly the satan was not authorized to offer jesus the world it was not the satans to give so maybe the satan was asking th elord how do you want me to live on the earth your world lord jesus so i may not offend you and jesus asked him to learn to grow food and clean water and harvest plants and nuts and seeds and those things lest we be left with no food these are not the facts but the interpretation of what the satan meant by talking to jesus about the earth he was in this world where i am in my mind i am suffering for i know not what to do jesus tells himlearn to grow food and be happy with the things you sow therefore never starving for the lords sake he meant i want you to be happy satan and to be agriculturally inclined this he believes would make him more spirit filled with contentment not tent living but spirit filled countanence that christ offers these are truths of the message but the words are mine embellished for story here in discussion peace
Looking for clarity. In Luke 4:1 Jesus was full of the Holy Ghost and led by the Spirit in the wilderness. Then, in 5 we read that satan took Jesus up into a mountain. Meanwhile, the NIV translation writes that Jesus was "led" by satan in this instance. So, the NIV uses led and led, which appears to suggest something that does not sit well in my mind, i.e., led by the Spirit AND led by satan. But, the KJV uses two words, "led" and then "taking," suggesting a distinction, and I'd like input on this. Thanks.
Verse 43-The kingdom was the theme of Jesus ministry. All his words and actions helped to clarify what the kingdom is and how it will serve Gods purpose.
Here also is a suttle example of Jesus not rebuking Saul. Acts 9:4-5 (KJV) And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Now here saul at the time wasn't a believer so when he said who are thou Lord his mind was on God the father, Isn't it strange someone with Paul credentials. a pharisee of pharisees, would ask God "WHO" are thou? and Jesus answered him, " It is I Jesus.
John 20:28, "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God". Neither did Jesus rebuke Thomas for saying what he did, in recognizing that Jesus was indeed the Son of God & the One Who came out of God. And his exclamation was not one of surprise but of affirmation when He finally realized Who this Jesus is & the sin of doubt that he carried.
The Devil said if you are "the son of God " notice he did not say if you are God ! Why is that ? Jesus would have rebuked the devil for the error as he always does . Turn these stones into bread , and Jesus rebuked the devil again and said Man lives By every word of God !
Oh but Jesus did not say my words . Why is that ? Because he is not God , but Gods son . And notice he was lead by the Holy Spirit , that God anointed him with why is that ?
Look closely to the scriptures and what is said and compare all scriptures, there can be no contradiction. These verses are very clear and so many many more .
Do not allow yourself to be tricked in to doctrines . Gods word is very clear .
Would the example of the temptation of Christ after his 40 days in the wilderness, be an example for us? Once we become affiliated with holy spirit and the power in him, we proclaim and perform the oracles of God! Temptation is the seeing and understanding the evil one and his ability to thwart us , through fear of not having what we need. First, affiliating all with deception with questions of the power and our relationship with God the Father. Jesus, in his time of hunger and need did not give Satan a place, did not allow him to accuse the Father through the temptation wrought in these illustrations given in the word. These words we see and hear from Christ, are our example how to deal with the evil one! With wisdom comes knowledge and power, given through faith, used in the extension of Gods kingdom. This is what the evil one hates! Remember his time is only for a season, and or seasons! We will dominate the evil one as long as we are in Christ! He has overcome him and knows the way! We cannot do these things without Christ! Pray always , pray without ceasing!
Sometimes we need to reflect inside & ascertain if we are really seeking truth or are we seeking to be right. I have made that mistake in the past. Self study, commentaries, & concordances have taught me much. I find the more that I study I am humbled by how much I thought I knew & can see, now, just how much I have to learn. But God has given us a clear understanding in scripture on the important things pertaining to our salvation.
His Word is our guide & meant for a lifelong search & fellowship with him. When he reveals the meaning of a scripture I did not understand my heart 'sings'. Just this week I finally understand what James was trying to tell us. I want to be a Berean!
It is interesting that people waited till evening to bring the sick to be healed. People were afraid of something? Perhaps there was a division between the people the poor and the rich. The rich being those affiliated with the church? Christs words have just enough salt, to convict the guilty. They would rather throw Him off a cliff then to hear anymore His word. The holy spirit describes what happens when the individual is convicted of sin. The power in the true word of God! It is sharper than a two edged sword! It will severe joints from the marrow! It will bring you to your knees! Oh you faithless generation of vipers. How shall you escape so great a God! His kingdom shall have no end.
Stand strong in these days. Recognize when God Blesses you. Praise His Holy Name. See the evilness try to take your Fathet from you. Recognize and fight back the world's ways. Take and bring the people of God near you. The others keep away. Stay close to your Father. Remember His words as you read your Bible. Remember the 10 Commandments. Live them. Ask for forgiveness if sin is close to you. Figh
From wence does the Devil appear? To and fro upon the earth, as stated in Job. God expelled him from Heaven, and his kingdom is amongst us on earth. His job is to turn people away from the peace of God, and towards the utter and inherent misery in Devil. He is full of subtlety, the most subtle, as in the garden of Eden. Those void of the true knowledge of life will fall into his deception, yes?
In Luke 4:4, the devil was appealing to Jesus' condition. He knew that Jesus was physically hungry from the 40 day fast and in verse 3 he was appealing to Jesus to make the stones turn to bread so that Jesus could satisfy His physical desire. Deuteronomy 8:3 also HE quoted scripture,
Hopefully that's helpful.
Proverbs 14:12
"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
God Bless
