In the days of Moses, God spoke to the people through thr prophet, for the people had witnessed His awesome power swallowing up an entire army. They were happy to hear the Word from Moses, as he was faithful and careful not to impart any but the truth he heard directly from the Father. Yet they were an stubborn anf froward people, missing the modest living they had in Egypt. God tries us, daily

Vs 35. "This is my beloved Son: hear him." God did NOT say, "Hear Moses", or "Hear the prophets"...."God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake IN TIME PAST unto the fathers by the prophets. Hath IN THESE LAST days spoken unto us by his Son..." Heb 1:1-2a. Two speakings. 1)To the fathers (of Israel) by the prophets (The Old Testament), and, 2) unto us by His Son (The New Testament).

I believe that God is saying whoever wants to follow Him must put away their old way of life and to get their priorities straight. We are to love Him more than the world. When He says to take up our cross, I believe He is telling us to deny ourselves, contrary to the popular belief that it means serving the Lord is hard and burdensome. It may be hard at times but it is a blessing not a burden.

Verses 46-48: The apostles were arguing about who was the greatest. Jesus used a child as an object lesson in how humble, meek, mild, and teachable the apostles should be. We must work to develop these child-like qualities.
  • Alex on Luke 9 - 6 years ago
When jesus said he that is least in the kingdom is greater then John thats another seed line greater then th abrahamic seedline The good seed is the the living word th very seed of God , thats y jesus said that which is born of the spirit is SPIRIT which is the H.G THAT PROMISE SEED LINE RESULTING IN A NEW INNERMAN . As we have borne the image of EARTHLY WE MUST ALSO BEAR THE IMAGE OF THE HEAVENLY
  • Wayne on Luke 9 - 6 years ago
Alex, please read Romans 11, paying heed to the first few verses. Will help.

Joseph made himself known to his brethren the second time they saw him. Jesus will make Himself known to His brethren the whole house of Israel and it will cause their everlasting repentance and conversion, when He comes the second time. The saved of the Nations, the Strangers who join themselves to God's people for the Lord's sake, are still OF THE NATIONS, and ISRAEL IS STILL ISRAEL!
  • Alex on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Jesus says out of the hearts of man proceeds all manner of evil, We need a new heart and a new spirit which is replacement theology, king david a man after Gods own heart was preaching replacement theology when he prayed create in me a new heart n a new spirit, Paul was preaching replacement theology when he said as we have borne the image of the earthy we must also bear the image of th heavenly

Alex; I don't want you to think I'm picking on you; but rather that I speak to you as a brother who understands maybe better than you think. Learning the Scriptures and feeding on the Word is wonderful, and much to be praised. But it actually does take time and trial to bring forth a vessel fit for the Master's use. Consider what I'm trying to tell you as good advice from the Lord: stay teachable!

Wayne, Thank you. That's simply false! "I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid..God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew." Just now He hides His face from them because they have deeply revolted from Him. Christians are GRAFTED INTO the Commonwealth of Israel and are permitted and welcomed because of Jesus' shed blood on the cross. The gifts and calling of God are eternal!
  • Wayne on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
There are those, as Alex has stated, that believe christians, and Christianity, have replaced and disposed the Jews as Gods chosen people. That the Promises given to the Jews are no longer in effect. That the Lord has turned his back on Israel. That parts of the book of Revelation will not be fulfilled because the Jews are not now "in the picture", so to speak.

Hi Wayne; Sorry to interrupt in the conversation; but what is, "replacement theology?"
  • Alex on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
That corruptible seed of Adam made us all corruptible but the seed of Christ is gonna make us all INCORRUPTIBLE THATS Y WE MUST BE BORNAGAIN OF AN INCORRUPTIBLE SEED which is the new covenant which is Replacement theology. The seed of abraham was good but not perfect, NOT THE PROMISE SEED, ITS ONLY THE H.G. that is the seed of Promise MEANING THE SEED OF CHRIST A NEW INNERMAN REPLACING THE OLD MAN
  • Alex on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Yes Wayne i am for replacement theology When jesus told Nic.a JEW he had to be borngain it was replacement theology, We must birth a new innerman the Israel of GOD, THE H.G. a heavenly man which is born by his seed tHE WORD that new creature. We all cARRY THE STAIN AND THE SPOT OF ADAM. AS WE HAVE BORNE THE IMAGE OF THE EARTHY WE MUST ALSO BEAR THE IMAGE OF THE HEAVENLY WHICH REPLACES THE OLD MAN

Wayne; Moses was charged by God to come up into the Mount that was all on fire and smoke by the glory of God's presence to receive the Commandments written by the Finger of God on Tablets of Stone. The rest of the Congregation was not permitted to approach under penalty of death. Jesus the Mediator and Redeemer brings us with holy fear and dread into the Glory and Presence of God for Eternal Life.
  • Wayne on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Alex, are u for replacement theology or not? Couldn't tell by yor statement.
  • Wayne on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Vv 34 and 35, a cloud came over them and as they entered the cloud, fearfully, a voice came out of the cloud saying, "This is my beloved Son, hear ye Him".
  • Alex on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
IMO about replacement theology, there arose a reasoning which of them wd be the greatest then Jesus took a child and set him within them and said whosoever receives one such child in my NAME RECEIVES ME which answers to HIS SEED ( His Name ) that are NOT born of flesh or blood nor of the will of man but by the will of God which are the babes and sucklings a baby Christ born in us. TH Israel OF GOD
  • BSP on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Verse 2: Jesus sent his disciples forth to preach a message of God's Kingdom. That same message should be preached by Christ's followers today.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Again, in verse 35, God attests to Jesus as His Son that we should hear and obey Him. When we hearken to this entreaty, we should not look back. Forward ever with Jesus, backward never. For "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
  • Irene123 on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Lk.9:62 - Jesus said this because He knew if we 'go back' (to whatever) BEFORE committing to him - we will be caught up in the past and it will pull us from Him. Right at the beginning, before following Him, if we tell family, friends, as a general rule they will talk us out of it because we are as yet too weak to be committed. The Lord knows this, He's not stupid.
  • Irene123 on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Lk.9:23 - This is my favorite of these3 gospel vs. - because here Lk. 'specifies' - daily. 'Daily is understood in the other 2, but Lk. brings it out so that to new Bible readers His light is shone on it. Matt. and Mk. didn't 'miss' this word daily; the Word of God is how He gave it to them. His reasons are sacrosanct; we are not to question them.
  • Zeingoff on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
If we follow Jesus as he urged some to, we follow him for his Word. John and Peter heard the voice of God on the mount of transformation and didn't know what to make of it just as in Exodus. God proves those who take up this mantle. Jesus steadfastly faces his fate. Those who follow Jesus will have no other priority, not family, friends or fortune. The story of Jesus is the Word he has left.
  • Irene123 on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Lk. 9:58 - To use just this verse to someone in witnessing and not follow it up with - Lk. 12:31; Matt. 6:33 - is not good. To one who doesn't know the Word of God, but is hungry, we are leaving them - 'as is'. They haven't been 'fed'. We need to lift up the seekers.
  • A disciple on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
(22-26) This is not our rest! As Jesus walked in this world, so are we to follow in His steps; and not expect to be any better treated than our Master. As much as the Spirit of Jesus is in us, and we walk in truth, so much also will the same kind of wicked men reject and persecute us.
  • Bruce on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Steph: not sure what you're saying?maybe.?But: without the Virgin Birth or The Resurrection, there is no Salvation or Truth.
  • Stephende on Luke 9 - 7 years ago
Jesus taught the truth to anyone who would listen. To me it doesn't matter if he was virgin born or resurrected but his words are true.
  • BSP on Luke 9 - 8 years ago
In verses 10 and 11 Jesus even made time for others when he wanted quiet time. He could have been irritated, but Jesus received them kindly instead of making them feel they were a bother.
