No scorn like a woman's! John waisted no time preaching and teaching. In fact his profession of the truth, and teaching Gods law, put him in prison. What better place to start your ministry then to condemn the king and his sweetheart. This of course should be a lesson to any prophet, who would speak the truth concerning sin, salvation and the kingdom of God. John came from a family who knew what sacrifice was, and certainly the history of those that preached the word of God! His father, Zacharias, was truly a chosen one of God.
Their are people like Herodias who have this same power even today, who while in the background can do things that most kings would never consider, even behead, those like John the Baptist! The problem of course ,was even though Herodias had relieved herself of Guilt, after eliminating John, that would actually be the beginning of what God had planned for them all along, the downfall of Herod and all his cronies!
When the gov't, takes an innocent man and beheads him, word gets out fast! People will turn against those that have no desire for the truth. Wise people cannot be controlled. Wise people ,live in the light ,not in darkness. Control of the masses is easy when you take the word of God away! This would be Herod's eventual end. The truth may seem untouchable at times, but eventually you will not be able to deny it. The spirit of truth will not be denied. We would be blessed as a nation if there were more John the Baptist. This pandemic could be the end of many churches, could mean religion's disappearing. With the evolution of technology, be assured that they will endeavor to silence the words of Jesus Christ! The church does not use the kjv ,because it is the truth!
It's gratifying to read of your interest in this subject; the whole Book of Hebrews is so very special as it shows us the beauty of Christ Jesus & His superiority over the prophets, angels, Moses & in His (Jesus') Priesthood. Keep reading the Word of God & keep enquiring into its richness - it is God's Message for you to build you up & encourage you.
So, in this respect of what the Hebrews writer has given, Abraham is seen as not greater than Melchisedec. And this was shown by the fact that Abraham gave Melchisedec a tenth of the spoils of war, when in fact such an act would be reserved to giving them to the priests. Yet, there was no official priesthood then, as Levi (from whom the priesthood came) was not born, but in the olden days, the kings also sometimes served as priests. In this instance, Melchisedec was a king in Canaan & even though not having any heritage to a godly line, was still a man of God, we understand, whom God had blessed & endowed to specially serve his people. Abraham's coming to him after the war, prompted Melchisedec to give Abraham & his troop food & in return Abraham paid tithes to him. Genesis 14:18. So in this respect, Abraham, though the Father of many nations, was lesser in status to Melchisedec, who pointed to a greater King & Priest.
And because there was no record of Melchisedec's family heritage, nor of his birth & death, the Hebrews writer uses him to show that Jesus comes as his type, rather than from the Levitical priesthood. Even though Melchisedec was a man who still had a history, the knowledge we have of him, shows Jesus as his type: not from a line of priests; no descendants in his office as Priest; no commencement or close of his office as Priest. What is said of Jesus: He "hath an unchangeable priesthood" ( Hebrews 7:24), & because of this & His Perfection & Holiness, Jesus is able "to save (all people) to the uttermost that come to God by Him" (verse 25). That is, this Priest Jesus also became the Offering for mankind.

Amen!!!Glory to God for your response! I do not get it much, as though I am new to this, but I love the observation that you made! So basically, you're saying that Abraham not being greater than Melsc... Right? And related that to Jesus as being the priest and offering instead of the ones back then, right?
Mark Chapter 1 is in reference to the gathering and the formation of the group of disciples which was eventually to follow Jesus and spread the word of God to as many people as possible who was willing to listen and accept the word of God.
As you know, this whole chapter speaks about Melchisedec, king of Salem & priest of God, of whom there was no record of his birth, his family or end of life. He is portrayed as a type to which Jesus is ascribed: an eternal Priest. Then the chapter goes on to speak of tithes that he received from Abraham. And this showed that by his position, Melchisedec was greater than Abraham even though he was not from the tribe of Levi, & would not normally be in a position to receive tithes. But Abraham recognized him to be of a greater position than he & so gave him a tenth of his spoils.
So verse 7, "And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better." And this means that this position shows without dispute that the less (Abraham) was blessed by the better (Melchisedec) & not the other way around as one could assume.
Verse 8, "And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth." So the Hebrews writer states that the 'men who die' (i.e. of the Levitical priesthood) are authorized to receive tithes, but in the priesthood of Melchisedec (i.e. not from Levi), he could receive tithes, & of him it is declared that he lives 'eternally' (as presumed). So a special case here of a non-Levitical priest receiving tithes also showed the Priesthood of Jesus, also not of Levi.
So the focus of these verses is not Melchisedec, but on Jesus Who is seen as his type, coming in the "order of Melchisedec". When Jesus came, the law pertaining to the priesthood changed; as the priests served at the Tabernacle/Temple, this Priest (Jesus) came to serve the people & give His Life for them. Even though the Levitical priesthood continued, it served no further purpose anymore before God as Jesus came as both Priest & Offering. Those other priests eventually died, but our Great High Priest lives on eternally.
Interrogating the Facts that are in the Bible - In Reply on Mark 1 - 4 years ago
You can Google that information and you will see differing opinions.
Fact is that all the disciples traveled with Jesus and witnessed the same events. That is why they are called, 'Harmony of the Gospels."
Four men saw the same things, and wrote of what they saw: with their perceptions and in their own words.
There may have been time differences of exactly when they wrote of what they witnessed. Every one of them were killed and I'm sure trustworthy people carried the manuscripts.
Apostle Paul wrote much of the New Testament. John who was imprisoned on Patmos, wrote the Book of Revelation; lived a long life and died in his bed.
I'm not the right person to debate who, what and when, with.
I believe the Bible as it is. Why? Because my salvation experience was all supernatural. It was a visual vision, but it was also in the present as I received deliverance on the spot. The Holy Spirit walked me through Acts 19:19, since I had been in the occult. I saw someone from heaven, and I got to see hell too.
I refuse to dispute validity! It's all real.
Ask yourselves why are you investigating the Son of God?
Faith believes what Jesus said. You can't please God without faith? If we think we can interrogate God; just as we interrogated our own President (for 4 years!!) and dig up some dirt? you are in danger of seeing hell too. I do not recommend it.
It is total darkness, no light. It's twisting tree roots, snakes worms and worse! It smells of rotting flesh; but it's empty. It is Unclean, filthy, polluted. Quiet. No sound yet.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.
Philippians 4:6-7do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Mathew 3:17 reads, "And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." In Genesis the writer indicates that God thinks that what He has accomplished is good, but in this verse of the book of Mathew and in no where else in the bible does God speak and say He is well pleased. Is that true?

It's not what you feel about yourself. It's what God says about you in scripture.

There's a whole process we go through to be forgiven and then to be free in our heart and mind. You may need to go to
1 John 1:9 many times like I did, and still do. It helps if you speak out loud, "I am the righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus," every time an accusatory thought sneaks in.
If demons are Accusing you night and day, you have to make them leave with the Word of God, audibly, from your mouth. If you have been born again and received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit: then you just have a demon problem. You have to furnish your house (spirit, soul, body) with the Bible and the life that is within it.
Read Psalm 51. It's one of my favorites for me. Read 1,2,3 John. Great info for everyone to burn into our brains. Like a Brand. Read Ephesians 6
The word 'Repent' means a lot more than what by nature people have been conditioned to believe. It is the key principle of all the teachings of Jesus Christ and the axiom (basis) of the Word of God and a prerequisite and primary requirement for the salvation of mankind. Actually it means the changing of spirits - to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God ( Acts 26:18).
For a better understanding and the 'spiritual truth' what it means to repent and how people have been deceived ( Rev. 12:9), we invite you to review the article 'Repent' on a world deceived.ca
Just looked up locust plants on the internet, big difference in the description of the plant it's actually a tree . Known as honey locust trees or black honey locust trees. Also not the same info that was in my moms bible. O well , still think this is what John probably ate. Who would chase bugs for breakfast. Plus God forbid his people to eat certain things, bugs is one of them, so I think.
Ah ! Locust, it's a plant . It looks somewhat like poison sumach when fully grown and ready to pick. It has a cone shaped cluster at the end of each branch. Also has everything in it that the body needs in nutrition, all the vitamins and minerals. It alot like a cluster of nuts and grains mixed in a cone shaped clump. Found all this out in a dictionary inside of a big family bible my mom had from 1957. It's God's granola !! Not bugs . People need to do research, not jump to conclusions.
Jesus is the King, so in a very real sense the kingdom has come. However in John 18:36 Jesus answered Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world...". After his resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God, his kingdom is headquartered in heaven and manifested in today's rebellious world by his church, via the indwelling power of the Holy Ghost ( Ephesians 1:18-23). We enter into his kingdom by believing in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receiving him as our savior from our sin. In 1st Corinthians 15:24-28 we see the fullness of his kingdom, as we can also see proclaimed in Revelation 11:15-19 and realized in Revelation chapters 20-22.
Hello Dana, God lives you very much, and He knows your heart, just the fact that you are honest pleases God,and it shows you are willing to change. In 2001 I had a bad habit,a snare,I could not stop on my own.One day on the bus I was told that even when I am in the act of fornication I could read my bible, before, after, and, I always read for 911 crisis, but I did not know it was okay to read my bible and even though I was about to sin,and I felt badly, but had wanted to have a right relationship with God so I did read my bible right after, before and during ,later on,and I cracked up because it helped me get out of the trap the residual bitterness, hurts, wounds of my soul-resentments had gotten ahold on me,reading my bible changed me. I have been chaste for Jesus since 2007 & depression gone suicidal thoughts gone. I need Jesus everyday ,throughout the day and 24/7. I Listen to 105.3FM & 1190 AM WLIB gospel contemporary music keeps me uplifted. When you speak out to God loves it when we ask for help & the bible says that God rewards those who diligently seek him. I will keep you in my prayers Dana.
No is a tiny word with mighty power when it is backed by the power of God. But such a hard word for us to use when not. Let god have your heart and he will empower your mind and the word no to addiction will stop it in it's tracks. 28 years clean from crack cocain read proverbs ch. 3 v. 5-6.
Praying for you.
6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins and he did eat locusts and wild honey. Chocolate covered grass hoppers is not bad. Covered in honey don't sound bad either. In France they eat snails. I know I was there and ate some out of the shell, covered with butter and garlic..
