    Mark 16:8 is where Mark ends. Compare 16:1 with 16:9 of the Biblica Sacra Vulgata Clementine 1592; 16 1 Et cum transisset sabbatum, Maria Magdalene, et Maria Jacobi, et Salome emerunt aromata ut venientes ungerent Jesum. 9 Surgens autem mane prima sabbati, apparuit primo Mariæ Magdalene, de qua ejecerat septem dæmonia. Two different time zones, "He is risen is one thing", using a "tardis" is another thing altogether. So verse 9-20 did not exist in the Codex Sinaiticus. Secondly, it was written in a style of 4th century Latin, or by someone who wrote Latin in a country that was never ruled by Rome thereby never having learned the difference between medieval and late Latin.

    I accept Mark's instructions as being for the Apostles’ only regarding the snakes and poison. Wade's comment about women not being allowed to go to the grave on the Sabbath, the Sabbath was ended when they went there on Sunday morning. The Jewish Sabbath, then as now, started at sundown Friday evening and ended at sundown Saturday evening.

    @Saleem,
    We have two kinds of baptism:
    1. Baptism of water (which is the first after people have received the word);
    2. Baptism of the holy spirit. I want say it clear that all believers must be baptized of water and of holy spirit. If you are only baptized of water (that is not enough) read Acts 1:5, Acts 19:1-6, and Acts 2. Some people think by praying for themselves they can be baptized of the holy ghost, NO . One needs to be laid hands on the head by the apostles, then will he/she be baptized. As same applies when one person is baptized of water, no one goes to the river by himself and deep himself in water, then comes out and say I am baptized, no. But one needs an authorized person/pastor to deep him/her in water and get baptized. Also in baptism of the holy ghost, only the apostles today can baptize people of the holy spirit. AND MANY PEOPLE TODAY ARE BAPTIZED OF WATER, I Thank God for the baptism of the holy spirit offered to him by his apostles and I pray that all people could be baptized.

    I think that Mark 16 ended at verse 8. The following verses are contradictory to the previous sentence that ended verse 8. The girls, the two Mary's, remained silent out of fear. They were right to be fearful for it was illegal for women to visit the tomb on the Sabbath. But the consequences of these inauthentic verses (9-20) have led to many misconceptions that have caused many deaths. The deaths of Christian snake handlers and poison drinkers who took the verses to be true on "faith", and paid the ultimate price for the Christian scribes that added these verses, to further their ends in proselytizing the would be converts to the Christian religion for their own personal agendas. If it's a known fact it's illegitimate than it should be stricken from all versions of the bible and the public, Christians or otherwise should receive an apology from the Catholic Church, and any other denomination that had anything to do with the treacherous forgery. DO NOT HANDLE DEADLY SNAKES OR INGEST POISONOUS CONCOCTIONS OF ANY KIND, WITH OR WITHOUT FAITH. That is my opinion and I am not alone.

    Verses 17-20 - A little lesson on finding scripture truth in the age of grace (church age) when reading and comprehending the gospels:
    1. The apostle Paul is the apostle to the gentiles, church age Christians ( Acts 9:15, Romans 11:13);
    2. We must use Paul as our checks and balance to reach doctrinal truth for Christians in the church age, which means if a person is not sure about a verse knowing who the writer is (Jew) writing to Jews, Gentiles, or both and always what time (age )is the writer referring to;
    3. We must always refer to what the Pauline epistles says about the subject in question;
    4. In these verses, what Paul says aids us to come to the correct truth. "Signs are for the Jews ( 1 Corinthians 1:22);
    5. In Mark 16:15 them=apostles and there are two separate commissions given:
    a. Verse 16, the charge to go out and be a soul winner (great commission);
    b. Verses 17 and 18, this commission is for apostles only (apostolic commission), how do we know this, because of the term signs are only for the Jews and no one else in the gospels ever was given the sign gifts except the Jewish disciples (apostles) and was given by Jesus himself not just the holy spirit.
    6. So if you are a gentile believer and think you can handle deadly serpents and drink deadly things and not die. I can tell you of true accounts where gentile believers did these things and died. Because these gifts are for handpicked Jews by Jesus only and will not be seen again until the tribulation age when God is dealing with the Jews for the second time, to receive Jesus as their messiah. Gentiles seek wisdom=word of God ( 1 Corinthians 1:22), start 2 Timothy 2:15.

    The Scripture says these SIGNS Shall follow them that “BELEIVE"! Not just the Disciples, BUT them that BELIEVE.
  • Doubting Thomas on Mark 16 - 12 years ago
    The earliest copies of this Gospel end at 16:8. Everything else (16:9-20) was added at a later date possibly a scribe. This has been determined by textual criticism (see Bart Ehrman).

    So how can it be inerrant if a scribe (or someone) added text to this Gospel?
  • Kumwenda Dingaan on Mark 16 - 12 years ago
    Children of God read and meditate this chapter very well. Jesus handed over his powers invested in him by God to anyone who has faith and belief. ' in my name ye shall cast out devils. They shall speak in strange tounges. They will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. They will drink deadly poison but they wont be harmed. Its happening today people gets heal from various deadly diseases by merely being touched by those chosen people who stood in faith with Jesus Christ. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR RATHER TO STAY IN FAITH WITH JESUS. ALL THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW US.
  • DIANE WETHEY on Mark 16:17 - 13 years ago
    believe on Jesus and that he will work in us to see miracles we have to believe to see this done . Jesus showed us how to do these things but we have to put them in action{ believe )
  • SALEEM IRFAN on Mark 16 - 13 years ago
    i think after reading the verse 16 , we should take baptism of water then we shall be saved.
  • Dusty on Mark 16 - 13 years ago
    Regarding Trents' comment of 5/21/10, the scriptures teach and command in three way. (1) by direct command, (2) by example and (3) by necessary inference. Where verse 16 refers to every creature, this must be understood in the ligh of the statement "he who believeth and is baptized". The necessary inference here is that the CREATURE has an intellect that permits him to to believe. Simple isn't it?
  • JamI on Mark 16 - 13 years ago
    Mark is considered to be the earliest and most primitive account of the Gospel. It is my favorite because there is less emphasis on the "miracles" and imaginative inference of other NT books.

    There isn't much of a fuss made about Him "rising" in chapter 16. I feel everyone should understand why He visited Mary Magdelene first and is a subject in of itself. "...he appeared in another form unto two of them..." is a curious verse and may also be worthy of study.

    My point is that the tales and almost mythology created by religions and states should not deter us from the Infinitely Wise Word of God. When sighting the scripture, less of value is the doctrine and rhetoric based on fantastic miracles. A storyline should not distract us from the simple truth that the Son of Man Jesus the Christ spoke...the same Word that Wisdom cried in the beginning, the same Word as every Patriarch and Believer throughout time has recited. Over emphasis upon dogmatic philosophy dilutes the power and brilliance of the Message. Exaggeration can make a joke of the gravely serious reality of Judgement.

    The treasure within this chapter, as well the 4 gospels, is Jesus Word alone.

    "15...Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
    16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
    18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

    Amen! Yes, all the world. To those who haven't heard the Good News. Yes, to every creature. To every thing we resonate the essence of His Mind. To bless the animals and birds, or to even stop animals from fighting. Keepers of the Law. We are the Prince and Princess of Peace, equity, tending the garden as in the beginning. Made in the image of of the King of the Universe. Yes the Children of God do cause all devil, evil spirit, bad mind to flee before their presence. Wickedness can not harm or haunt us. Who does not believe is now and shall be damned.

    Compared to the very small amount of text we hold as the precious sayings of Jesus the Christ, there is a mountain of information purported by those who took his name and built their religions. All real teachings are universal and eternal. Jesus is chanting the same Ancient Faith, a prophet of the Holy One. The ONE GOD. His Word which illuminates our soul is the focus. Real teachings awaken the self and understanding vibrates from within.

    My Brothers and Sisters let's keep it real. Don't get carried away. We are all sharing this planet. We must create Heaven, Zion, the Kingdom of God right here now. Love each other as our self. Live for others or perish. The Way is so simple even a child can understand. Give thanks and praise to the Almighty One. GOD of US ALL. JAH. selah

    MARK 16:15 I LOVE THIS VERSE SO MUCH IT CHALLENGES AND EMPOWERS US AS CHRISTIANS TO DO THAT WHICH IS RIGHT AND ACCEPTABLE IN THE EYES OF THE LORD.EVEN IF THE WORLD MIGHT SEEM A BIT CHALLENGING TO US IT IS WRITTEN'GO AND PREACH THE GOSPEL"
    SO MY QUESTION IS WHY DON'T WE DO GODS WILL?
  • Peggy on Mark 16:18 - 13 years ago
    Well after RE - READING this verse, and praying and pondering on it, this is what it means to me - If - ( YOU feel that YOU have been called ) to take up serpents, and drink poisin, God will protect you. That being said. It is also my feeling that this ritual SHOULD NOT be done in every Christian Church. Nor should those who do this ,tell someone else that IF you do not do this, you do not have faith. God gives differant gifts of the spirit to each person as HE chooses. So now,it is my feeling that IF, God has put on your soul to do it, then do it, God DID NOT tell me to do it.- Just how the spirit has led me to understand it.
  • Jundaguit on Mark 16 - 13 years ago
    mark 16:16 is a very specific requirement that even a child could understand without making it harder not unless it is twisted. a very simple command to follow and to do. IT IS INDEED SALVATION FOR ALL OF US WHO BELIEVED IN THE NAME OF THE SON OF GOD AND IS COUPLED WITH THE BAPTISM OF WATER IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST AS CITED IN ACTS 2:38. THE HOLY GHOST CONFIRMED THIS STATEMENT THROUGH SIGNS THAT FOLLOWS BY EXERCIZING THE POWER THAT GOD HATH GIVEN. IN THE ABSENCE OF THESE THEN YOUR FAITH IS NOW IN DOUBTFUL AND DANGER SITUATION WITHOUT SEEKING THE TRUTH THEN SATAN IS THE BENEFICIARY. REMEMBER SATAN ALSO TEACHES THE GOSPEL NOT UNTO SALVATION BUT UNTO DECEPTION AND MANY OF SUCH IN OUR PRESENT TIMES. MANY WERE ALREADY DECEIVED AND STILL KEEP DECEIVING.
  • Mark on Mark 16 - 14 years ago
    in verse 16 is baptism being emerged in water, or does it symbolize a way believing?
  • Neo on Mark 16 - 14 years ago
    Indeed He is risen and will ever remain so. that is the foundation of our faith that the dead do rise. He (Jesus) is the hope of our glory amen?
  • Trent on Mark 16 - 14 years ago
    Yes, that is odd. I'm sure it doesn't mean to preach the gospel to turtles, cats, spiders, and random animals. So, that would mean we're creatures. It would be nice to know if the Greek word for 'creature' is any different than the one used where we're supposed to rule over creatures.
  • Patricia on Mark 16:15 - 14 years ago
    Why does it say every creature? I thought we were supposed to rule over creatures (animals)? Are we considered an animal?
