We must know that Jesus is our redeemer, that we should know who Jesus is to us and we should have excellent relationship with him.
  • Zvanyadzachakanyuka on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
I am blessed to be able to write this, it's a bliss to witness the birth of Jesus Christ as told by Mathew. Joseph to know then the command he was given that his wife a virgin was carrying our lord the saviour, what a blessing for him to have the Messiah come from his genealogy.
  • Matt on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
The meaning of Matthew is "gift of GOD" but wait the Gift was the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Truly what a miracle, blessing and precious gift was the birth of Christ. I don't deserve his grace and blessings but He gives them freely to those who know Him as Saviour.
  • Kevin johnson on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
This chapter helps to dispel those who challenge or doubt Jesus' lineage which is accounting his 42 generational links to his birth. Many of us want to know and understand our past through record searches and this is one we should familiarize ourselves with even for study sake.
  • Vutivi J. Mahori on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
The divine birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (the anointed one) was foretold by the prophecy in Old Testament. Although was foretold, because people are easy to forget, Joseph too should, is the reason God sent a reminder message of prophecy. There was also a command to name Him Jesus. His name means all things to all people. It all depends on your personal relationship with Him. E.g a brother me can be a father to someone. If you are not related to Him you'll surely not know what to call Him. Be blessed fellows.
  • Odette Bruce on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Matthew is telling us that you have to know him in order to have a relationship with him. To me he is my Saviour,He is my Emmanuel,He is my Lord. This is so much to praiae him for.
  • Carolyn's on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
I just want to stress the verse saying Joseph was a just man, excited me, it didn't say Holy tried and True, or of Devine order, enough to shout about. Another thing Joseph believed God when he had the dreams and acted on them, he was in touch with the father, good to me.
  • THE PREACHER on Matthew 1:1 - 12 years ago
what i can say,is that the "bible is true"meaning, the name "jesus" is not a manipulation or mistake or if possible under some shadow of error and pretence:the name jesus is power and confirmed in philippian 2:9-10,...amen-jesus
  • Shirley on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Well I injoyed this very much he is a Lord of many names some call him Lord of Lord, King of King, the Messiah, Jehovah. But who do you say he is in your life is he your Lord of Lord, is he your King of King or your Messiah or Jehovah. The whole point is do you have him in your life are related to him. They even say he is our bread. what ever you say he is that is what he is to you. But I call him a lot of names healer, lover my brother my friend, he's all of that and more. there are so many names I have for him my self but that is my personal relationship with him. I have some names that is not in the bible that I call him
  • Sanaa on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
In Matt 1 says 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

where in the new testment where any one call Jesus( Emmanue)l? it tell us in 23 this was to be his name. and after the angle of the lord came to josph and told him what the child name will be called why in 25 he went on to call him Jesus? (jesus is a greek name right?)
ps i'am not asking the meaning of Immanuel.

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
  • Kennygross on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Matthew 1 as you can see starts the genetical of
42 generations that failed to obey GODS' laws.
So GOD had the perfect plan to save all man kind
from hell and death. To take the keys from Satan
and to lock him in the bottemless pit. So we can have a savior, a healer, a restorer, to free us from all sins and failures. If you would go to the Bible and read( John3:3-21). Jesus Christ the name above all names is what the Holy Bible is all about. Matthew capter 1, is just another part of the bible to get you to come back to you first love. Your LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
  • Laxmi prasad mahara on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
    this book is very good.
  • James on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
@Payton...OK. That point I get. You seemed to deviate and lose me in your next sentence referencing the Son of David, Good Master, etc. But you clarified.
  • Payton on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
@James I'm not saying it's not important...what I'm saying is if Jesus is Yeshua in Hebrew its still Jesus. Just like your name James is Jaime in Spanish its a different way of saying it but the same thing. People have been arguing about if Jesus or Yeshua, etc. is correct. Thats whaat I was saying
  • James on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
@Payton...According to God, the name of JESUS does indeed matter...
    Matt 1:21 & Acts 4: 10-12
  • Payton on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
I am only 19 but I am a called minster of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am young and don't have all the knowledge of the Bible but God has shared with me many concerns of the church. We live in a day and time where man has tried to take the place of God and answer certain questions or rasie certain questions. We are finite beings and God is infinite, omnipotent, and omniscient. When you begin to realize Isaiah 55:8-9. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
    declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts" then you will see we can't answer everything and only God can. Stop trying to take the place of God and allow His mysteries to be revealed in due time. Another thing we have begun to take the emphasis off of Christ by arguing about His name. WHY??? Jesus, Yeshua or whatever else is NOT important. Not everyone called Jesus by that name. He was known as Son of David, Good Master and Teacher, Son of Man, Son of David, etc. Whatever you call Him shouldn't be whats important, its the fact on whether you are calling on Him or not. God Bless

It was through Mary, her Mother was born through the Priest line ,Mary's Father was from Judah.
  • Mario William Vitale on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Matthew has an adaptation of quiet spirit. Furthermore; what I mean is: Trust is negotiable to the natural man. This negates any truth sought. We can walk by faith or that by sight. Matthew/ shines as a clear testament of real trust. Yet ultimately it is up to the individual to decide. Each has been afforded free will.
  • Deanna on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
now when jesus was born in bethlehem of judea in the days of herod the king behold there came wise men from east to jerusalem
  • Lourdes on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
I don't think anything of it. I believe that Jesus is the son of God! God is something we can't see and he's everywhere. He created us for his own purpose, but something when wrong.
  • Patrick on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
according to acts 2-38 peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the holy ghost.
in order for anyone to be saved they have to obey the scriptures so peter told the house of isreal they had to repent and be baptized in the name of jesus christ to get rid of their sins. so that is the only way that you can be saved.
  • Elijah on Matthew 1:1 - 12 years ago
Derrik j Smith : NO lie : From Hebrew to English goes Yeshuah to JESUS...

Every tongue sounds DIFFERENT, but The Meaning behind the words is IDENTICAL...

Except, from "the tone" of YOUR comment, you are clearly NOT a True Christian (YET)....[Messianic Jew ???]

Think that YOUR "Yahshua" is NOT "Our" JESUS † ...

    2 Corinthians 11 : 3 - 5 †

"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."

The FIRST CHRISTIANS were ALL Jews :

    Acts 11 : 26 †

"And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."

So who are you Derrick? Messianic Jew or True Christian ???
  • Samuel Bonaya Buya on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
In verse 18 we read Joseph was expoused to Mary and she was found with child of the of the Holy Ghost. In verses 19 the two were called husband and wife by virtue of espousal, a marriage vow. Jesus was a son given by God ( Isaiah 9:6) through the tribe of Judah in fulfilment of Genesis 49: 8-12. His lineage through Joseph was in fulfilment of Isaiah 11:1-5 prophecy. " and there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." He was to sit on the throne of David ( Isaiah 9:7). His lineage was to be trace through David in order for Him to sit on Davids throne. Yet Michah says thus of this Massiach ben David: but though, Bethlehem Ephratah, thou thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of the shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose going forth have been from old, from everlasting ( Micah 5:2). This Christ is to be ruler over Israel was before Michah, the prophets and the patriarchs. David in the psalms, by the Spirit spoke of Him thus: The Lord hath sworn and will not repent, though art a priest for ever after the order of Melechizedek. The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through Kings in the day of his wrath ( Psalms 110:4-5). In Zechariah 14: 16-21 He sets His throne in Jerusalem as King as Lord of Hosts. In Revelation 19 He is called, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Yes, the same person, bore the office of son of God, in fulfilment of Psalms 2 and His virgin birth and by the Power of the Holy Ghost, He took the office of Son of man to be a prophet like unto Moses, He takes the Name of Son of David to sit on Davids throne during the mellenial rule. He was the lamb of God to make an atoment for sin. He was a high priest of the order of Melechzedek to represent us before God by the sacrifice of Himself. Yes He is the everlasting Father, the Mighty God the Prince of peace, the mighty to save. He is the Lamb, the King, the Eagle, The Prophet, the alpha and the omega, the first aod last, the one true Lord and God.
  • Missy on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Since Joseph is not the biological father of Jesus, why then did the gospel trace Jesus's geneology through him- Joseph. or is is really traced through Mary, his mother????
  • Amos Bardemorilla Jr. on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
John 1:1 & 1:14, this is the perfect combination of Spirit and matter. JESUS was already there in the spiritual form ever since the world begun. And the Word was made flesh that JESUS became matter, He exist in positive form. Note that under the umbrella of negative form were all unseen things & these are all Spirits while in positive form are all existing things. So to say, the Spirit which is GOD turn into Matter which is JESUS the Christ and the WORD of GOD is JESUS alone.
  • Samuel B. Buya on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Jesus was God manifested in the the flesh ( 1 Timothy 3:16). God is a Spirit( Holy Spirit) - John 4: 24; God was manifested in the flesh to take away the sin of the world. God purchased his church by his own blood ( acts 20:28). Isaiah 9:6 says unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given and his name shall be called wonderful, counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting father. Notice hear it didnt say names but name. All the titles applied to Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 refer to the self same person. He was God above us in the old testament and Immanuel (God with us) when he was manifested in the flesh. In John 14:6-11 Jesus says, he that hath seen me hath seen the Father. Thomas in John 20:28 called him my Lord and God. In Titus 2:11-14, Jesus is refered to as the Great God and saviour. In 1 John 5:20 He is refered to as the true God and eternal life.
  • CC on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
To call Jesus, God, is to me a blasphemy.I never heard that Jesus was God, Jesus is not the creator of all things. He is the son of God, just like we all are(all living creatures)sons and daughters of God, meaning we have been created by HIM.
  • Rudolph on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Jesus was sent from the Father, by spiritual dispensation, as prophesied numerous times in the Old Testament(God with us)He stepped out of himself to bridge the gap between man (fallen)and God (upright) connecting us back together by the cross (What can wash away my sins? nothing but the blood of JESUS!!!)Please note Matthew Chapter 1 Distinctively elevated 5 women in the lineage of JESUS CHRIST. Matthew and John were the only eye witnesses with Jesus Christ of the four Gospels, therefore we as possible children of God must search our hearts and seek the face of God to receive his divine plan for our lives, and not man's determination of us.
God bless you only if you receive the revelation of the HOLY Ghost speeking through this (medium) the internet.
    His humble servant Rudolph.
  • James on Matthew 1 - 12 years ago
Jesus is the only living God. there is not 3 sitting up there telling each other how things should go John saw 1 sitting on the throne, not 3. Emanuel duh God with us. the only God that came to earth was Jesus. He is God in the flesh. Read ist. timothy 3;16. John 1 and 10 will tell you who Jesus is. Did He not say if you've seen me you have seen the father. I and my Father are one. matthew 28 & 19 Go ye therfore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, andof the son, and of the hollyghost. Notice He said name (not) names. The name is JESUS.There is only one way to heaven, its through JESUS, none other. Why would anybody want to be baptized in anyother Name, if it was the only way to get to heaven. Can't for the life of me see why people want to make it so hard.
  • Marty on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
In response to Ray's comment, I struggled with Jesus divinity for years until I realized that Jesus could in no way reconcile mankind with God, unless he is God. One simple illustration is daylight cannot exist without the sun, and the sun cannot exist without giving off light and heat. They are all manifestations of the same energy, serving different purposes, as The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit are different manifestations of the same Being (Almighty God), serving different purposes.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
