Since Christ never endorsed violence except possibly in His zeal for purity in The Temple -- I am not a passifist , and because there are many other scriptures that state how pro-active and aggressive we need to be to "fully " experience the blessings of Kingdom life like, "take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ " - I will be working on that one my whole life ,...it seems to me that when I type Violence, almost all the references I see have to do with evil men and their agendas. Now, we know that much violence was done to advance God 's agenda under the Old Testament to route out evil in many aspects and forms and this is certainly a principle for us to be ruthless with sin, doubt, temptations, etc. today. Yet the passage is in the context of John about to lose his head, at the hands of a very violent, evil man. So,...in a nutshell, it seems to me this passage MAY be a statement of fact and warfare that began ref. the new "kingdom " at the time of John the Baptists ' arrival. This kingdom will and is suffering violence like Johns ' upcoming beheading and then through all the martyrs though human history since AND Violent Men and this is a bit harder take or seize it not enter, but sieze or stop or seek to destroy...possibly via Force! And this is the pattern we see regarding Christs ' kingdom from the beginning till now - even today. Men of Violence, wicked, powerful leaders often seek to snuff out this kingdoms ' advancement - in China, Korea, Russia the list goes on and on throughout this time in His-story history. Just some thoughts - I don 't know for sure.

Verse 12, it is the unity of people that make up a kingdom even if they are not all in one place. This verse speaks of persecution of religion. This verse warns Christians that there are those that will act violently to oppose and attempt to dispose the Christian religion. John the Baptist was in prison for practicing religion. He was taken forcefully and killed violently. As the example of the Master, Jesus, washing the feet of the disciples, the greatest is the least in the kingdom of heaven. Loving and helping others in need is the way of understanding the Spirit of the Lord. Verses 18 19 explain that even innocent actions will be interpreted as wrong by those that hate and they will hate regardless of what a Christian does. Being an honest, kind and good person does not save one from the wrath of Satan if one believes in Christ. One must choose what is right regardless of the consequences. Freedom of religion, the right to choose ones religious beliefs, is wisdom that is justified by the actions of the believers. Kindness, honesty, love of mankind, are formed in the character of a Christian and are part of the foundation of the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus wants us to accept his words and obey his commandments. Jesus himself is the word of God which provides us his heavenly manna he who eats the word of God will receive peace, life, joy, favor, healing and blessing. We have to believe that he is the Son of the Living God who can save us and comfort us. Our Heavenly Father love his Son Jesus Christ so much he have given the full authority into his hands, That 's why Jesus has authority to forgive sins, heal the sick, Teaching the word of God to the poor. Jesus loves us so much and he cannot stop loving us. From his precious blood that shed for us when he was on the cross that is the symbol of his love and mercy for us. Jesus loves you.. be blessed and be thankful and praised Jesus for he deserves to be praised.

i think these cities did not see the relevance of repentance because they never believed that Christ is the Son of God nor the works of Christ because Christ says in John14: 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.. meaning they did not believe even when Jesus Christ has preached the gospel and healed the sick,in essence i can say that they did not believe that he is the Son of God because if they had believed they would have repented,Jesus Christ says that Sodom would have repented i think this implies that these cities were ignorant of their sins and their hearts were stubborn even Sodom was better then them because it knew of it sin hence it would have repented if it had seen the works of Christ because works bear witness of Christ .

I so much love this passage. The bible is making us to understand that Jesus is the only solution to our problems and difficulties in life. Just come to Him just as you are, and He will carry the loads for you. He loves you, no matter how dirty you are and is free.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Matthew 11 - 10 years ago
Hello Gurjit Singh. This scripture is literally meaning what is written. John the Baptist was in prison and Jesus told the disciples to go and tell John what they had seen Jesus do and perform. This has nothing to do with souls. There are some scriptures in the Bible that are not left up for interpretation. They simply mean what they are saying and how they are written.
  • Gurjit Singh on Matthew 11:11 - 10 years ago
Christ was baptized by Saint John.He find the inner peace and achivement of God with kindness of his prophet master St. Johan. The master for a follower is above everything in the world. So he is saying in the glory of his master that no one is born on the earth greater than John. Then he is saying about the value of humbleness and meekness.Least mean of lowest ego or egoless or feeling himself as least of all the man made by God.No one is greater than John in kingdom of heaven. But christ is saying this to appreciate us for being humble and reduce ego which make the way for going to God easy.
  • Gurjit Singh on Matthew 11:5 - 10 years ago
It is all about souls. The blind souls are those who do not try see divine light and God inside body.Lame are those souls who have become so weak under the burden of worldly pressure and mind affect on them so they never try to walk toward spiritual success. The sins, bad deed, bad thoughts, ego, lust for sex etc.make the souls equal to lepers.Deaf are those souls who never try to listen the divine melody or sound inside the body.Dead is called to those souls who have no inclination toward God.Poor souls are those who have lost their original wealth, the living with God in heaven. These souls will achieve strength of seeing God,lame will get power for movement toward spiritual success, the lepers soul will become holy soul, deaf souls will become listening soul for current sound, dead souls will wake toward their destination and poor soul will get company of God with having gospels of christ followers as their life gems.

  • Okorie Chukwuemeka on Matthew 11:11 - 10 years ago
Of ALL born of women from the beginning until that his own time none is greater than John the Baptist and the reason for that is because John the Baptist was 1. sent to prepare the way of the SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD, JESUS CHRIST Matthew 11 10 which no other man or woman was commissioned to do that because ' '...all the prophets and law prophesied... ' 'about Christ coming ' '...until John ' ' Matthew 11 13 came to prepare the way. 2. He was MORE THAN A PROPHET Matthew 11 9 . BUT HE that is LEAST IN THE KINGDOM that is the christian who has been converted lastly in to the kingdom of God is greater than him. It then means that all converted christians are greater than him.

This is a clarion call to ALL, God is calling all to repentance, He is calling all out of struggles and weariness. There is an important part of this calling which is telling us to take a bold step after knowing or believing we have issues that require assistance. Come He says. Are you ready to come to him.

In the natural a stronger ox is yorked to a stronger one, in the spiritual JESUS is the stronger one, we are to submit to HIS authority, HIS Lordship, that is when we will learn that HE has provided all things that we will ever need for life and godliness, ie my prosperity, health, joy, all we are needed to do is by faith enter HIS finished work, that is the rest GOD has called us to, halleluya.
  • Ccox on Matthew 11:29 - 10 years ago
I found in reading mattthew 11 29,that when we won 't submit to Jesus we become bitter and disrespectful to each other, and fall back in the state which he had delivered us from.at least I think some of us were delivered we forget that our walk is for others to see and here Christ and want who we represents.to be yoked with Christ is peace, love, joy, humility, hope.endure the sufferings of this world.

The yoke of God is God 's best for me. When I take His yoke upon me I do find rest for my soul. To my understanding there is sometimes two beasts of cattle with a yoke on them to do the job that the farmer has to do . One beast cannot do it without the other. God does not call us in His service to do His work alone. He is there along beside us to help. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. It is a Joy to serve the Lord. Praise God !!!!
  • Blessed on Matthew 11 - 10 years ago
verse 12 has been misunderstood and used in the wrong context. .........the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence and the violent take it by force. This does not advocate violence. There is a distinct difference between the violent and the kingdom of GOD. First let me remind you. JESUS SAYS come unto me all ye that labour and a heavy burden. My yoke is easy and my burden is light. No mention of the kingdom Jesus being violent. ....turn the other cheek. This is what it means we are to Listen for GOD, LISTEN FOR THE HOLY GHOST the comforter, lead and guide us to all truth, teach all things of GOD. THE VIOLENT is not of the kingdom of GOD. POWER IS OF THE HOLY GHOST YE WILL RECEIVE POWER WHEN THE HOLY GHOST COME UPON YOU. Therefore through pray we overcome the violent. How shall we preach the GOD news of the gospel unless we have good news. JESUS IS RISEN HE DEFEATED DEATH AND SIN, DISEASE. He says with JESUS IN ME AND ME IN JESUS I CAN ASK WHAT I WILL. A violent situation doesn 't always come with salvation. GOD TELLS ABOUT MANY SITUATIONS OF violence and give instructions how not to be involved in them or either how to get away from them. I says come out from among them and be thee seperate. The kingdom of GOD IS NOT OF VIOLENCE. The Word of GOD SAYS FIRST SEEK YE THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND IT RIGHTEOUSNESS JESUS IS THE RIGHTEOUS OF GOD. NO LONGER I BUT THE CHRIST WITHIN ME. MORE CHRIST MORE RIGHTEOUS OF GOD. AND ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU.

In literal sense, the word Yoke means a bar of wood, so constructed as to unite two animals usually oxen , enabling them to work in the fields, drawing loads, pulling instruments used for farming. Figuratively, It is a symbol of Slavery 1 Tim 6 1 Servant hood Lev 26 13 I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high. Also Jer 27 8 12 Submission, Forced Subjection Burden, Load Christ Jesus has set us free from the yoke of bondage through the law. Jesus took upon himself the yoke of Law and fulfilled it. Therefore, through him, we can be set free from the yoke of sin and death. What a wonderful picture, Jesus is giving to those who are exhausted, weary and burdened from carrying the load by themselves! What a comfort, peace, joy and rest it is to know that Jesus is right with us, walking with us, teaching us and strengthening us side by side! We may be under the yoke of sin, oppression, guilt, failures, anxieties 1 Pet 5 7 , or worries. Jesus has set us free from the yoke, we just need to COME to him and cast our heavy burden on him. And he will give the rest for our souls.
