I spent some time thinking about versus 5 and 6 Matthew chapter 11 and I felt blessing. I do not know what it is but thank God for that.
I SEEK FOR YOUR KINGDOM AND YOUR JUSTICE, AND ELSE SHALL BE ADDED

Come unto me means a lot Jesus really meant what He said because He knows so many people out there are been deprived of their possesion in christ by the devil. But He gave an open cheque to all who wants freedom that they should come to Him that in Him lies liberty.

    Matthew 11:12
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.

This is another difficult verse in the bible. Different teachers have different views. But with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and with the exegesis from the context, I come to this conclusion.

The back ground story is as follows. John the baptist was in the prison for the cost of the kingdom of heaven. He began to have some doubt about Jesus Christ as the messiah.
So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus.

Then Jesus replied with what he was doing. He healed the sick. He raised the dead. He preached the good news of the kingdom of heaven. They were enough proofs of his Messianic

After that, to the crowd , he said, “ From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.

I believe that Jesus Christ was targeting to the ones who believed in him.

This is my paraphrase. Jesus Christ said, “John the baptist has already entered into the kingdom of heaven. Now he is advancing in and for the kingdom of heaven. So the enemies put him in prison. But John and the other strong men did not give up. They take hold of the advancement
of the kingdom of heaven. They kept on marching, for the victory was sure. Do not be discouraged or dismayed. Blessed is the one who does not fall away on account of me. Know that I am.”

Another related verse is Luke 16:16.
The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

Here Jesus replied to the Pharisees, who loved money and who were sneering at Jesus, when he said, “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth.”

So, this is my understanding. Pharisees try to enter into the kingdom of heaven with their own way. But they will never be allowed.

They need to humble themselves, fighting against their pride. They need to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Messiah. Only then will they be accepted into the kingdom of heaven.

But every one who humbles himself, overcoming against his pride, is welcome into the kingdom of heaven. The Holy Spirit gives them power to come to Jesus Christ.

There will be oppositions against the kingdom of heaven, whether entering into or advancing for the kingdom of God. The oppositions are either inside of a man or outside.

Here I believe Jesus is letting the peope and the pharasies how important John was to him and his ministry. I believe God sent John to make acceptance of the message a little more believable.

What does Jesus think of John the Baptist? "Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist:" Matthew 11:11.

Jesus was a rabbi which in his time they were highly respected. Jesus wants us to follow him and learn from him the things that can give our souls rest. His teaching will liberate us from sin and his burden is light because he helps us with our burdens.
  • Harilina Poe on Matthew 11:28 - 13 years ago
God's word remains true and faithful because he is there all we have to do is come to him and he said he will give you rest for your souls. When all else fails try Jesus it works for me it will work for you.

Jesus's words that invite all to take his yoke upon you and learn of me ,is first to understand that a yoke connects two together.Jesus is on the one hand the only begotten son of God - the son of man - and on the other hand the son of the living God - the Christ - . Of course the side missing in the world of christianity is the son of man.
  • Ben weaver on Matthew 11:28 - 13 years ago
Wonderful promise of our Lord. Laboring and being heavy laden indicates, the Yoke that the fathers were not able to bear ( Acts 15:10). The law of commandments; "He that doeth those things shall live by them" ( Rom. 10:5). No one was able. We still have people saying that being a christian is not easy, its hard, but Jesus says "My yoke is easy", and our souls can rest if we come His way. Trying hard to live our lives for Him, by will power may be missing the point. Heb. 4:10 says "He that is entered into His rest has also ceased from his own works". The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death ( Rom. 8:2). Maybe we should labour to enter into the rest Jesus has completly provided for us and stop trying to fight the devil ourselves, which dosn't work. Let's believe His promises, receive and actively claim them. We can now tell the devil that we are under the blood and Jesus already defeated him, so he must leave now. Our soul can rest in peace like Jesus promised. It works for me.

It's true!!!!! That's why to all who cannot resist and tired of the burdens they carry in their life trust in God read this bible verse and you will be enlightened, your faith will go stronger, your hope will be much, because you know (when you read this verse) that you have a price in heaven and your effort carrying hardships will be worth it because in heaven God will give you rest.

DAVID, SOME PEOPLE THAT SAY THAT THEY ARE CHRISTIANS THINK OF THE CHRIST'S CHILD ONLY DURING CHRISTMAS, AND JESUS'S DEATH ONLY DURING EASTER. WE MUST NEVER FORGET IT'S ALL TOGETHER. MY PASTOR HAS COMMETED ON THE LOVLY PICTURES OF JESUS HANGING ON THE CROSS. HE SAYS THAT JESUS IS NO LONGER ON THAT CROSS AND IT WAS NOT A LOVLY SIGHT TO BEHOLD WHEN HE WAS ON THE CROSS. THE ONLY LOVLY THING ABOUT THE CROSS WAS THAT JESUS HUNG BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH SO OUR SINS CAN BE FORGIVEN. GALATIANS 6: 14 COLOSSIONS 1 : 20 PAUL SHOWED US WHAT THE CROSS MENT TO HIM.

I felt very sad when I came to Gods understanding and knowledge of this scripture that helped me understand just how long suffering Gods love is.. and how some sadly seem to want to only hurt something so great, remebering that God is love, and love endures all things, hope that never ends.

I started this BIBLE study with MATT.1:1. I have had things brought to mind that I have forgot. Inearlier chapters I have read that we pray to GOD in our prayer closets (in privite) and HE will reward us in public.verses 9-10 shows have HE publicly (held up) John the Baptist. HE does the same for us (if we faint not)

I am so blessed that Jesus has led me to this site. I am preparing, being led by Mr. Matthew, the teacher of scripture. And of course, Scripture itself.
Preparing to better fight the wolves, and cleanse myself. To better lead and protect HIS sheep.
GOD bless the keepers of this site. Richard
