He warned not to listen to Pharisees, and Sadducees they spend their time teaching the word yet they no not who they speak of is standing in front of them. Peter was chosen to be the Rock of His Church when He was to leave them, Jesus did speak of satan sifting Peter. Peter told Him who he was and knew the word of God that His son was to die on the cross, how Jesus knew it was satan speaking. GB

He is referring to his second coming, those who haven't excepted him and turned from their fleshy life will not rise up, Never accuse the Lord of misspeaking he died without blemish for our sins. People think they serve God but do the I thing, not realizing all blessings flow from him and him alone. we die to ourselves and carry our cross for his sake, we feed the soul not the flesh. I don't know if anyone ever addressed the question of whether or not CHRIST misspoke when He said that no man had ever ascended into Heaven.... He did not! He meant of their own accord. Remember, Elijah was caught up taken up in a whirlwind. GOD did that! Enoch was translated by GOD. The Holy Scriptures say that Enoch walked with GOD. He did not ascend of His own accord as Our Saviour did.

I take it that Satan was trying to influence Peter to prevent Jesus from his mission. Which of course was to die for all and rise the 3rd day.

I honestly think that this lesson was a good one to discuss at church. When Peter says that God has forbid Jesus rising in 3 days is false obviously . But what I am not understanding is when Jesus said "Get thee behind me, Satan. If you can tell us people who didn't understand that verse, that will mean a lot.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. This is the only place in the bible the word Barjona is used. Which means son of Jona and dove. Many Simons in the bible but this Simon is Peter.

You say, Peter was just the pebble in comparison. Who art thou that judges another man's servant? to his own master he stands or falls. Yea, he shall be held up: for God is able to make him stand. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.

Jesus meant himself by 'rock....'. Peter was just the pebble in comparison.

The sign of Jonas, as spoken by Jesus, refers to false teachers, so Jesus sent Jonas to preach, for he was just. He refused, fearing the populace, He boarded a ship to escape, but couldn't, and was tossed overboard to save his shipmates. Today we have a religion which has warrantied an entirely corrupt product, and does not teach the true word, but corrupts itself with this alliance. Beware!!!!

Jesus gave the Church several guarantees, one of which is in verse 18: the very gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Church. In spite of the commentary of the day which asserts the Church is headed into oblivion,Jesus Christ has guaranteed the Church that she will not be defeated.Not now, not ever! Rejoice and be glad!

Jesus warn his 12 of the danger of the 'leaven' of the Pharisees

But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. This is our deep problem, our understanding, or how we think God should deal with us....we live by faith not by sight....we can't trust our own understanding

What a contrast about Jesus' response to Peter, "Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Contrast to verse 23 where Jesus rebukes him, "Get behind me satan.

But in

Verse 24~When we choose to become true followers of Chris we must disown ourselves and follow the example of Christ Jesus. We have to deny fleshly desires and cultivate godly desires.

Jesus wants us to stop sinning so he can bless us.

Simple question. Just ask yourself and answer it. Greed is poisonous. I would rather have Jesus. He is our spiritual wealth.

Peter clearly identified who Jesus was in verse 16 you are the the SON of the living God. Jesus wanted them to understand that because of all the rumors going around at that time much like our day.

"..Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?" In other words, You have now been with me for some time; coming and going among the crowds in every place where I have taught and showed the Glad Tidings: What have you heard men saying about me? Is there then anything holding you with the world's way of thinking? Or have you understood something more, regardless of what other's think? Are you with me?

Verse 13~Jesus was interested in hearing the viewpoints of the crowds around him. He asked viewpoint questions in order to teach certain points. We can imitate this method of teaching.

Son of man speaks of His humanity, Son of God speaks of His divinity; both are True Names for Yeshua ha Moshiach, Jesus the Anointed. Read Luke 1:26-37; "..behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:.."

J.W. - "turn the hearts of the disobedient to the just." That's an interesting way to put it. Another is - the hearts of the fathers - the believing Jews - to the children - the hungry Gentiles. And this is what happened with Peter and then Paul. Their ministry took them from the believing Jews to the Gentiles. The Jews were the 'fathers' in that they heard first, then they produced children.

Dear Vuiswa kganathe; Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God? Have you been made to feel guilty because of sins and things you've done wrong; and have prayed to God in Jesus' name with repentance? it made me wander if i do really know who is Jesus. if i know him, i my following his commandments as i should? so hepl me God to trust and obey. Most of all to know HIM

I know He is Christ, the Son of the Living God. He has proven Himself to me to be so, over and over again. Praise His Holy Name. By the way, my name is Peter!

v. 18 - "Devil here we stand and here we will fight! We will fight in the pulpit, in the aisles, at the altars, in the Sun. schools, in the hallways, in the parking lots, in our homes, at the market, on the street, and on printed page." This is a very Clear Indication how blind man made religion is to the Things Of God. Purely because man's sinful fleshly desires continuously seek after these things with ungodly vigor. The other thing that stands out also is, the Lord speaks favor upon the Righteous, who in the Broad Spectrum of God's Will, MUST Preach Repentance and Salvation to Sinners, while there is yet time.
