Verse 17: Jesus preached to people and encouraged them to repent or turn around from their bad course.
  • A disciple on Matthew 4 - 6 years ago
"The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." God has come in the flesh to bring us salvation and redemption and life eternal. This world is under the sentence of death: Repent, and God will turn your darkness to light.
  • A disciple on Matthew 4 - 6 years ago
"..sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee.." How strange and terrible in fact, that this saying of the devil is so commonly accepted and believed by Christians! Jesus said that the devil has never stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. The world doesn't belong to the devil and NEVER did! He is a LIAR!
  • A disciple on Matthew 4 - 6 years ago
"..If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written.." As the Lord sets out on the mission given Him of His Father to teach and to preach and to deliver all who were oppressed by the devil, and complete the words and deeds by giving His life to save us; the devil is on an unyielding relentless attack against God and His Word, and can only slander and contradict and oppose the truth.
  • A disciple on Matthew 4 - 6 years ago
"..If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.'' The first principle of the heathen mind; which is, If there be a God.. is debunked by the truth of the Word of God. What is behind disbelief, debate and defiance, is disrespect for the commandment and our entire life being dependent upon Christ as our Saviour. Jesus subjected Himself to every temptation that is COMMON to man.

Randy; You should first actually read the Scriptures all the way through; and not just once or twice! Jesus said, "WHEN YOU FAST..." ( Matthew 5) and again concerning those who are strongly bound by Satan in any kind of torment or affliction: "THIS KIND GOES NOT OUT EXCEPT BY PRAYER AND FASTING." I have to wonder how someone dares approach the Holy Scriptures with the idea of making his own ideas!
  • Randy on Matthew 4 - 6 years ago
Jesus did the fasting so we dont fast anymore .... I wonder why christians mimic the things Jesus did ... did he not say... i become poor so we become rich ... he become sickness so we become healthy.... jesus have done all those things for us so we dont have to suffer the way he sufferde... all we have to do is rely and put our faith on the finished work of Jesus.... Eph. 2:8-9

Ben. The same bible says all authority-government are ordain of God. That we ought to honor them because they are set up for His purpose
  • Norita Priester on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
I Matthew chapter 4 it does not state how many days Jesus was tempted by the Devil. So He could have been tempted 3 times on the same day. Just because He fasted 40 days and 40 nights does not mean He was tempted for 3 days. So to think that he was is incorrect.
  • Ben on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
    (4:8-9)
Satan here says he can give Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. He does not appear to be lying—Jesus does not say that he isn't able to give these. This then implies that Satan owns all the kingdoms of the world (see also Psalm 2). Government was first founded by Nimrod as a rebellion against God (according to Josephus) and continues to be against God. This has libertarian implications.
  • Wayne on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
V.17, Jesus didn't say to b baptized for salvation. He stated repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
  • I AM on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be over past. Behold, God himself is the judge, fear him: leave off from your sins, and forget your iniquities, to meddle no more with them for ever: so shall God lead you forth, and JESUS, who is the CHRIST, shall deliver you from all trouble. AMEN
  • A disciple on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
Matthew 4:4 "..Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." This most important and fitting response was to the temptation to use His divine power to serve His natural human needs and the devil's thoughts, that "God helps those who help themselves." Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for the express purpose of fasting and prayer to commence His Service to the Father and our redemption and with that, being put to the test by the devil. Having committed Himself in the Spirit, it was not for Him afterwards to "save Himself" and rescue the flesh from its inconveniences and discomforts BY HIS DIVINE AUTHORITY! We belong to God and have committed to follow Jesus Christ and be led by His Spirit: we do not afterwards worry about rescuing ourselves from what we are appointed by God to encounter, in the things He has directed for us to serve Him.

The devil tried to temp Jesus but Jesus was not falling for the devil lies .its sad how some saved people don't no the difference between the devil spirit and JESUS U see Jesus knew the devil he once was in Heaven he was one of the angels in heaven he wanted to take over in heaven so The devil and all of the ones like him got thrown out of heaven by Jesus Test the Spirit is it Jesus

I just noticed how God called to brothers. Simon and Andrew were brothers and James and John were brothers. I can see God creating a deeper love when It involves family. Maybe even an ability to sustain a follower if there family is also involved. Amazing food for thought.

  • God's Handmaiden on Matthew 4 - 7 years ago
Many times people are born into the Kingdom of God and are asked to be witnesses and lead people to Jesus. What is to be understood is effective witnessing has to be taught. Jesus told his disciples to follow him, and that he would "make" them fishers of men.

Jesus was being tempted of the devil here : Jesus was hungry : the tempter knew that : So with me us : The devil sees in me what I lack and tempts me to turn things around to his way of thinking and act on something that may be very harmful to me : Jesus was in the wilderness to be tempted of the devil : the Spirit of God led Him there , every temptation that Jesus faced was for my our sakes , as Jesus overcome so we can and do overcome : A temptation is a thing that you have a strong desire for : a fleshly desire. Is my hunger greater than to do what God says !!!!
