This chapter teaches the new generation of Israelites the sacrificial ordinances goven to Israel on Mt. Ainai. One difference I notice was that of pouring of strong wine on the animals sacrificed. Immediately it reminded me of the blood of Jesus poured out for the remission of sins. It is likely that these Israelites had grown up with these sacrifices being done daily by Aaron and now Eleazar.
But YHWH deemed it necessary for this generation to hear from Him through Moses comcerning these offerings/sacrifices again.
We, too, should remind ourselves of what Jesus said at the Last supper concerning the communion. We should be glad to participate in communion as often as we can. It seems in the early church that many met daily ro share this meal to commemorate Jesus' death and resurrection. And others who gathered on the Lord's Day-the first day of the week-for worship and communion. This can be found int he book of Acts.
It is too bad that many churches have relegated communion to a once a month or every other week occurrence. It is a solemn observation and as believers a cherished one.
The whole of Num. 28 reminds us of our sinfulness before God and how much we need a permanent once and for all sacrifice for sin that covers us all day every day. Jesus did this-sacrificing Himself once and for all, thus eliminating the ordinances of Nu. 28 because He is the One Sacrifice all of these daily, Sabbath, holy day sacrifices were a shadow of His all sufficient offering of Himself to the Father as an acceptable offering. The Father received the offerings of the Israelites if they were done in faith and in observance of all that He commanded of the priest to do for the people. Jesus not only is the one perfect sacrifice for us but also our perpetual High Priest who intercedes for us before the Father. Therefore there is no longer any need for the sacrifices
delineated in this chapter nor for the Aaronic priesthood or temple. Christ is the fulfillment of all these.
This is a wonderful site due to the great teaching here, When I first found it I was ambitious and eager to help defend the faith, but soon realized this site didn't need that from me, there's a time for that. I've learned to sit back and learn how to be still. There's a lot to learn from that. Thank you
I'm sorry, but you didn't address my question. I have many Bibles (KJV, NKJV, NASB, & CJSB) in which I study from, and many study bibles, concordances, commentaries, etc. I know who the scapegoat ultimately would be for mankind--Jesus Christ. My question for you is why does Numbers Chapter 28 not mention the Day of Atonement which involves the ritual of using 2 goats, one offered for the Sin Offering, and the other to be the scapegoat which is released into the wilderness. According to Leviticus Chapter 16, this was one of the, if not the most, hallowed holy day(s) of Israel, and commanded to be observed forever. I am hoping that you possibly could provide me with some insight as to why Numbers Chapter 28, which contains a list of Israelis' holy days for them to follow once in the Promised Land, does NOT mention the Day of Atonement & its prerequisites.
I would appreciate any response you can provide to the aforementioned. I thank you for your previous replies, but I'm getting everything except an answer to my rather pointed question.
You need to get another Bible with center of the page reference columns. Each alphabet or number refers to another scripture that adds more illumination to the first. Some are current to that time or they are prophetic (future). You have to get what you need to study these things deeper. Sometimes you have to buy reference books. I highly recommend a large print encyclopedia with a full concordance. Try AbeBooks to get previously owned. Google them.
Here is a few on Leviticus
16:5 see Lev 4:14, Numbers 29:11, 2 Chron. 29:21, Ezra 6:17, Ezekiel 45:22
16:8. See chapter 9:7, Hebrews 7:27-28
16:9 see Proverbs 16:33
16:10 see Isaiah 53:4-10, Romans 3:25,
2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 2:2
At the end of all that you will see that Jesus was the Scapegoat for us. He has already made atonement for us.
You're going to have to look this all up and then ask THE HOLY SPIRIT to teach you what it means today. He's your Teacher.
It means prayer on your part, and turning off all racket to sit quietly before the Lord for answers. You will be amazed at what you learn. Psalm 63:6 and Proverbs 8:34
I am trying to figure out why Numbers Chapter 28 doesn't mention the scapegoat (which is part of the Day of Atonement sacrifice including the sin offering of another goat), there are 2 goats to be offered as a part of the Day of Atonement sacrifices. In Leviticus, the Day of Atonement is commanded by the Lord to be observed every year. I don't understand why Chapter 28 of Numbers addresses feasts, offerings, sacrifices but leaves out the Day of Atonement sacrifices. I don't see how the book of Numbers could not address the Day of Atonement. I'm aware that the scapegoat (Azazel) is mentioned in the book of Leviticus. I don't understand why Numbers doesn't mention it as Israel is preparing to enter the promised land.
This is what the commentary says about the scapegoat:
16:21 All the iniquities - He mentions iniquities, transgressions, and sins, to note sins of all sorts, and that a free and full confession was to be made, and that the smallest sins needed, and the greatest sins were not excluded from, the benefit of Christ's death here represented. On the head - Charging all their sins and the punishment due to them upon the goat, which tho' only a ceremony, yet being done according to God's appointment and manifestly pointing at Christ upon whom their iniquities and punishments were laid, # Isa 53:5|,6, it was available for this end. And hence the Heathens took their custom of selecting one beast or man, upon whom they laid all their imprecations and curses, and whom they killed as an expiatory sacrifice for their sins, and to prevent their ruin. A fit man - Heb. a man of time, that is, of years and discretion, who may be trusted with this work. Into the wilderness - Which signified the removal of their sins far away both from the people, and out of God's sight. And here the goat being neglected by all men, and exposed to many hazards from wild beasts, which were numerous there, might farther signify Christ's being forsaken both by God and by men, even by his own disciples, and the many dangers and sufferings he underwent. The Jews write, that this goat was carried to the mountain called Azazel, whence the goat is so called, # Lev 16:10. and that there he was cast down headlong. By Wesley

Stanjett:
Are you sure about the comment you made about the Jew and the white calender's
If we are true to ourselves, honest in believing that there is one creator for all, we must also believe that the calendar that was given to us to track time, is the one true calendar.
The Anglo-Saxon English speaking race has manipulated the Word of God, in so many ways. God created everything in 7 days, 1 year was 336 days with man's changing of the one true calendar we have stretched the year from 336 days to 365 and a quarter. This is wrong on so many levels, our months as well as the years are out of alignment.
Lots of questions about the Sabbath in these forums. Sabbath is on Saturday. The Jews was to rest on this day. do no work Most Christians worship on Sunday. Jesus rose from the dead on a Sunday is why we choose this day to come together to worship. Even thou we should worship Him everyday.
Yes the Catholic church changed the Julian calendar to the Gregorian. Constantine was a SUN worshipper so are the Jesuits look up their symbol. But where not COMMANDED TO SET ASIDE A DAY FOR THE LORD. You can pick any day or none. I do like David says SEVEN TIMES A DAY DO I PRAISE THEE!
Hebrews chap. 4 explains the Sabbath the true rest of God Gods rest its awesome read it when in doubt look in the word as for the dream keep reading your word the Lord will speak thru Christ in his word don't look to the left or right but to Jesus and him alone God bless
As you said that there is nowhere in the bible that says sunday is the day of worship, and it is so also, but does that mean that the Sabbath day of rest that God has establish that poeple have the adosity to say that the Sabbath rest is sunday? It depends on what kind of work you are refering to also to help some one that need a help, some one came at your door and ask for a meal will u not prepare it for him, or go help someone that is il and there home is in a mess lack of there sickness will u not tidy that person house for them that it may be clean??? it all depends at the cituation of that moment. And sunday is not the day of rest that God had establish from the beginning of creation. Gen 2:3, Exo 20:8-10, Exo 34:21. there are many more texes in the bible consening the Sbth loook them up.God is a God that never changes and would not turn back on his words.
I came home from prayer meeting at ~8am this morning then went to sleep and in my dream I saw " Numbers 28:7" written - I am trying to understand the significance of this.
The Sabbath is the 7th day, not the 1st day of the week from sunset to sunset. So on our modern-day calendar, from Friday at sunset until Saturday at sunset.
You can not find Sunday worship as the Sabbath in the Scriptures. SUN-day worship is sun worship.
Much of what is written in the Old Testament was given as laws and ordinances for Israel to keep as a nation, and was for them at that time, since Jesus had not yet come. When in doubt compare the Old Testament to Jesus' teachings in the New Testament. There are many NT references to keeping the Sabbath, but no verses that condemn working on the sabbath. You can even read Luke 13 to see how Jesus responded to those who accused him of breaking the sabbath.
While I have found no conedemnation of working in the NT, what is important to remember is that it does condemn missing of worship. Hebrews 10:25 says
"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some [is]; but exhorting [one another]: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
As we are much closer to "the day" than when this was written, I believe it is all the more important to assemble with other believers to worship. While I have had odd Sundays where I have to work in the evening, I never allow myself to miss Church.
