AND THAT IS NOT THE KIND OF LOVE WE CAN GENERATE ON OUR OWN, ITS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. ITS AGAPE. In Galatians 5:13-26, it uses some of the same language, and it identify the source be hind each action weather you exhibit that attitude or not, one is the flesh and the other is the spirit. a must read when studying in this area. The verse is telling us how to treat one another, it dont say exalt one another or disparage one another, it teaches egalitarian. to take on the same attitude Christ did when he took on the form of a servant. in the washing of feet Jesus says; Ye call me Master and Lord: and you say well; for so I am. if I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. for i have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you... Thank you.

GOOD AFTERNOON Matt. I agree with you 100% we cant replicate the level of service and love which was in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the cornerstone of the foundation which our faith is built on, we who are in him is only given an earnest of the spirit. Now the spirit helps us human beings in our infirmities, we who are saved have the mind of Christ, Romans 8:9. "However" some are carnal and need growth. Now Philippians 2:5 "let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus, is not telling us to "match" Jesus in his service, love, understanding, perceptive abilities upon all needs of his Disciples. Like you said to put that verse in context its talking about egalitarian service towards one another, verses 2 through 4 tells us what Paul is talking about, Listen to him; Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same Love, "being of one accord" one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowness of mind let each esteem other better than them themselves. look not every man on his own things but every man on the things of others... As the church did in acts 2:44-46; And all that believed were together, and had "all things in common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men ,as every man has need. And "continue daily with one accord" in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and "singleness" of heart. YES we should have the" mind" of Christ. In Philippians the word mind is fron-eh,-o in the Greek, it means "attitude", we are to have the same attitude. , 1st Corinthians 2:16 says For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. the word mind here in the Greek is nooce, it means understanding. So to put that verse into action its not just what you do to your brothern or for you brothern, its also what you dont do to your brothern as well such as devour one another, that's fulfilled with Love. Gal 5:13-26.
  • Matt H. on Philippians 2 - 3 years ago
Phil. 2:5 gives, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."

The context of this directive is that of the Disciples living in egalitarian service to one another, vss 1-5. The example for such is the mind which "was" in Christ Jesus.

It is not possible for any human being to replicate the mind of service and love which "was" in Christ. Jesus' level of understanding of Love, His perceptive abilities upon all needs of the Disciples, and His impeccable delivery of loving service were far beyond our understanding and ability to do.

If you, whoever you are, state rather it indeed doing such can be done, then describe to me how you in fact personally exhibit the Mind of Christ in service to fellow Believers. Do not waste my time and your position there with constructing some widely gathered perspective containing divergent comments, by which you then avoid answering the issue I just stated about your own actions to serve. Just speak the facts of what you do to serve as you supposedly have the Mind of Christ for service to fellow Believers.

Remember, no place in Scripture either instructs or even narrates how we should "do our best to try" to obey the righteous imperatives and commands of Scripture. Either we do or do not comply.

    Have I clearly communicated here?

    Regards, Matt H.

If you mean 'does God save a person if he comes to Him only because of a fear of Hell', then I believe the answer is 'No'. The fear of Hell or of death or of the unknown is a very real response by many who seriously contemplate their future, but it's insufficient to give salvation. He can 'come' to God because of his fear, but that won't grant him salvation.

The message of the Gospel (Christ's Work at the Cross) was primarily to release man from God's required penalty of his sin & to also provide a lasting & sure means for his forgiveness & acceptance into the family of God. The fear of Hell must first be accompanied by a fear & hatred of sin. How can we run to the Saviour if we don't believe we are sinners or having sin that will not be judged by God? How can we run from Hell if we don't believe that it is our sins that send us there? Then any fear of Hell will only be like an errant child who fears the whipping given by his father: while the fear is there, he behaves himself, but when the father is absent, the child plays up. The boy might trick his earthly father by showing his goodness, but a man cannot trick Almighty God by showing his fear of Hell but not of his sin. However, that fear can most certainly be a catalyst for the sinner to see his pathetic sinful condition & run to the Saviour.

In India, where I've had some ministry, one can sometimes see, in a Hindu home, a 'picture' of Jesus alongside the other idols being worshipped. Why is it there? Essentially, because of fear of the unknown/future. Believing that the more gods that can be worshipped, the greater the chance to get a better future, being the imperative, rather than seeking a god, the True God, who can save a person from the 'guttermost to the uttermost'. You need to talk to your friend about his sin (as each one of us are sinners), & present Jesus Christ to him, that He might first run to Jesus for salvation & not try to run away from Hell which will give him no hope or assurance.

There are lots of reasons why we fear God: sins we did, sin we're doing now; living with people that ridicule our interest in salvation.

I had many people tell me to my face that anyone as evil as me could not possibly get saved! They'd walk off laughing. It felt like a knife in my baby Christian heart.

God is bigger than anything you've ever done. His offer of forgiveness and salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ, stands....24 hrs a day, 365 days a year.

There is no Sin that the blood of Jesus Christ cannot wash away completely. Confess it. Be sorry for it. Open your mouth and say...to God...I need Jesus to come into my life now. I receive Him to be my personal Lord and Savior. Wash me, raise me as a new creation. Seal me with the Holy Spirit. I believe you will NEVER leave me nor forsake me. Holy Spirit: teach me About Jesus. I open my heart to receive all that you have for me. Whatever you need; ask the Lord. As He has forgiven you; now in pure faith, you forgive those who hurt you. Do it till it takes root in your heart.

You will be amazed how light you feel once all of the past, drops off of you.

Every day, say good morning to your Heavenly Father. He loves his kids! Some future day you will bow your knee and whisper: I love you, ABBA (which means, Daddy God). His arms are big enough to hug all of His kids.

    He loves you. Mishael

I believe "things" is a reference to the fact that The Lord Jesus holds all things together and is in fact God. All of creation is subject to Him, our Supreme Potentate and Maker.

    Blessings,

Vv . 14-16. Do all things without murmurings and disputing, that you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God without rebuke in the midst if a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world, holding forth the word of life. Amazing scripture that fits our time on this earth. Let not our love grow cold because iniquity abounds. Jesus is our strength!

Being the Son of God and our savior and the one who died a horrible death for us all, sealing our salvation should be accept the gift, indeed we should bow down and worship Jesus. We should bow down in gratitude that Jesus has given us the opportunity to live with God forever.

IF anyone can answer this statement by Jesus? READ Matthew 24:36 Mt 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. So Jesus was speaking of the "end " to answer His disciples, that not even He knew when the end was, only the Father in heaven. Please do research for yourself and do not be led astray as Jesus warned many would be. Jesus, a God, NEVER assumed he was equal to His Father, the Almighty God, Creator of the Universe and everything in it.

'Who being in the form of God '- "In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God.All things were made through him, and without HIM, nothing was made that was made " John1:1-3.... Jesus was in the same spirit form as God HIMSELF, He is the Son of God. He was not an afterthought of creation. The difference here is that Satan was also in spirit form, but he wanted to be like God. In fact, he aspired, and thought with pride in his heart that he could be God. "No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. " John1:18 "Thought it not robbery to be equal with God " "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you. ' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. John14:28 But Jesus, in that form of God, never thought he was being reduced to nothing, when he took the form of man. there was no pride, no injustice, rather a calm acceptance of what God, His father, wanted him to do on earth. And when He was done, He asked His father to glorify him. "I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. "Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was " John17:4-5

My thoughts on this verse are that it speaks literally to the fact that one of the Sons of God would be none other than a God, scripture speaks a lot of this. In the book if Revelation Jesus says God, even my God shall give you a new name. The sad fact is that as Christians today our education today is often what we here on Sunday expounded from the pulpit and we never bother to read for ourselves, how many everyday Christians read scripture faithfully and actually seek Gods wisdom, study to show thy self an approved workman rightly dividing the word of God. People want to make everything about their beliefs on the trinity, and unless you have truly studied and know when and how it started and what is scriptural and what is just man professing to be God you should be very careful and guard and protect yourself. No man has seen the face of God save Him that came from the Fathers Bosoom who thought it not robbery to be equal to God.
