Your name is Amos? I just looked in the book of Amos and was amazed. I thought that is what you read. You're very mature for your age. I think God has his hand on your life too. I'm praying you will pursue God with all your strength.

If your Bible has "center of each page, columns" ; those are references to other scriptures that give more information. See the tiny alphabet letters? Look in the column for that letter and look that one up too and read it.

    ******

There's a commentary box. Below the 2 search boxes. Put your scripture in one of the search boxes. Touch it and it will turn yellow. Scroll down below that to the commentary box. Click on that.

If it has commentary you can read that too.

    *****

When you study, always ask The Holy Spirit to teach you what you are reading. His voice always makes your spirit happy.

Voices that frighten your spirit-do not listen to that. I'll tell you why later.

Come back anytime and look for Mishael comments. That's me. I'll help all I can.

Yes Mishael that is what I am and amen I do think we need to chew on Gods word because we will learn more by doing so but remember I am 12 yrs old I don't know everything so correct me if I am wrong.
  • Mishael - In Reply on Proverbs 14 - 4 years ago
I think we just need to read at a snails pace and really chew on what you're reading. If there's center of the page columns, I stop and read those too.

Sometimes I take notes. What is God telling me? If you study alongside the Holy Spirit, you can ask Him if this pertains to me? Someone I know? Believers? Un-believers?

This website has a commentary box below the Search box. Pull up your verse; click on it to highlight it. Just scroll down till you see the Commentary, open and read what it says about your verse.

I looked at your verse and it was a genealogy page. Is that what you wrote?
  • Jamaiyah Bryant on Proverbs 14 - 4 years ago
If you pay attention every verse is comparing good to evil to me. If I am incorrect please reply back to my comment.

what does this really means: In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

Amen this is true. Thanks be to God for his words reminding us that our tongue is the root of evil
  • Shivanna Budhai on Proverbs 14 - 4 years ago
we need to be careful with our tongue because of life and death lies in our tongue.
  • Shivanna Budhai - In Reply on Proverbs 14 - 4 years ago
    a good word of incouragement.
  • Shivanna Budhai on Proverbs 14 - 4 years ago
this passage of scripture tells me that the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride. rod in this instance is used by a shepherd not to let his sheep astray. so Christ is our shepherd and he will use that rod of correction on us because he doesn't want us to go astray from his presence

So you can rely on the holyspirit even if you dont have a good teacher preacher or speaker in your city...God still makes his word clear and available for us all. Praise God!!

If we're true children of the King, we would want to change ourselves with the aid of God because without edification, things will remain the same if don't get worse.
  • Vanessa on Proverbs 14 - 5 years ago
the tongue is a dangerous weapon, use it wisely, seek no council from those that lie, nor those that deny the poor, and those that are full of their own self pride, the bragger is just that, if you do from your heart God knows nobody else needs to. God Bless you all

It is written, Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it. Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
  • Wendy on Proverbs 14 - 6 years ago
I see a battle. The warfare is within me. I have an opinion of myself, my failures, my anger, my faults, my shortcomings. But there is an opinion held by the King, that I am my beloveds. He loves me so much that He became sin for me. He took upon Himself a Righteous opinion of me. No matter how loud my opinion screams, His opinion must dominate.
May we run a victorious life in Christ Jesus.

Verse 20~We should not base our choice of friends on how much or how little our friends have financially. We must look at the inner person and their qualities.
  • BSP on Proverbs 14 - 6 years ago
It is very important to apply verse 15 because there are many lies and half- truths that are being spread. We must take time to evaluate what we hear.
  • A disciple on Proverbs 14 - 6 years ago
"He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him." Jesus came into this world to save us, the children of God, from our sins and give us eternal life. We are all made in the image of God and commanded to love and honor one another in reverence of God's image and likeness. All who are of the truth will keep integrity to love God and his neighbor.
  • BSP on Proverbs 14 - 6 years ago
Verse 30~We must work hard to control negative thoughts and emotions because they can have a bad affect on our health.
  • BSP on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
Verse 29: This verse shows that the person who is slow to anger is looked upon with favor by God.
  • A disciple on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
"Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." If we can look so hard on our unsaved family members, neighbors and coworkers and demand that they are accountable to the Law of God, and His Judgments upon disobedience how do so many then not recognize the beam in their own eye, or the hypocrisy of calling themselves saved Christians, while they are clearly still bound in their sins? "And if we seek to be justified in Christ, we ourselves be found sinful men, whether Christ be minister of sin? God forbid." Galatians 2:17 Wycliffe Bible The LORD God our Saviour says, "Sin no more, that not a worse thing come upon you " yet some still strongly protest, saying, "We all sin every day we can't help but sin " and then misuse the Scriptures to cover their defeated lives. If one breaks a hedge, the serpent will bite! But that doesn't negate the truth of the Glad Tidings, that Christ sets us REALLY free only that that one has fallen into sin! But we have an Almighty and wonderfully merciful Saviour, who is able to save to the uttermost ALL who call upon Him. So if you're having a problem bring it to the Lord in repentance, and BE CONVERTED! that your sins may be blotted out and you shall receive forgiveness and all the fullness of His great and glorious Salvation Victory.
  • Lilian on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
Our sins are already forgiven and was cleansed by the blood of Jesus we are pardoned as Jesus paid the price on the cross by his blood. Lets praise and worship Jesus for he is worthy. To conquer and depart from evil is to do good and accept Jesus as the Son of the living God aken
  • Jerry on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
"The backslider in heart..." for all have sinned...you won't "QUIT" sinning til the day you die! So in this sense, we all backslid to a certain extend! But we shouldn't stay here in a backslidden condition too long... we should just confess our sins and get right with the Lord.
  • Mr. Smith on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
vs 14: "Backslider", better rendered, "hypocrite, deceiver, pretender", may say the right things to appear to be something he isn't, is ruled by the senses, therefore will reap what is truly inside produced by his own wicked imagination. The "good man", ie. the person ruled by the Holy Spirit, will bring forth the good things which his own imagination produces. Matt.12:35
  • Steve on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
We are living in the Church age so we are saved by Paul's Gospel 1Corinthians 15: 1-4 The old testament saints were not saved the same way we are because JESUS had not died yet. When they died they went to Abrahams bosom because they could not go to heaven yet because the blood of bulls and goats could not pay for their sin. It was not until JESUS died on the cross that all our sin was paid
  • Irene123 on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
To Brianna - I really liked that - don't believe everything one hears about God and His Word, but search it out - Jn. 5:39; Acts 17:11. Something else interesting here: Jesus wasn't talking about the N.T. scriptures because they weren't written then; He referred to the O.T. Jesus and salvation are all thru the Old; that's what the old was all about.
  • Brianna on Proverbs 14 - 7 years ago
    Vs. 15
The practical wisdom found in the Bible truly surpasses human thinking. This verse can be applied to so many aspects of our lives. There are so many religions and teachings, and sometimes people never research. However, this verse tells us not to believe everything we hear. Rather, THINK and research to make sure it is true.
