Wisdom is accepting Gods word or sayings as spiritual law and entrance to His kingdom and love.A wise man will invite others to come and increase with other wise men. Understanding makes it easier to gain knowledge. He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit is SAYING!!!
  • David on Proverbs 9:12 - 10 years ago
God is wiser. You cannot out smart him.
  • Gma on Proverbs 9:12 - 10 years ago
If you are wise, you do not reflect the teachings of God, wise is actually being vain. If you are ridiculing or being cruel to someone, you will pay the price yourself for it is not God 's way for us to be this way.
  • Gma on Proverbs 9:8 - 10 years ago
I think this verse is saying that if you rebuke a scorner, he then feels ridicule, so he despises you and if you do the same to a wise man then he still seems superior and he loves you for drawing attention to him.
  • Gma on Proverbs 9:4 - 10 years ago
I think she says for those that only understand in simplicity, to come and get understanding.
  • Gma on Proverbs 9:3 - 10 years ago
She sends out the pillars of the church to invite their followers and she speaks with the 'pillars ' of society so that their followers will join in the festivities also.

I am making a practice of reading a chapter a day in Proverbs, being the 9th, I read chapter 9. I believe that you could continue reading a chapter a day for years and each time you pray before reading God will reveal something different you need to hear from Him. By the way, today the word "scorned " stood out so I researched it and God revealed that I have been scorned and it has effected my daily walk and I need to release the anger and regret I have in me. The definition is "...a feeling that someone or something is not worthy of any respect or approval. " I am 55 yrs. old, married 30 years and have never felt that I deserved my husband or God 's love and foregiveness. Whoever that may read this, please pray for me in this area. Thank you

I think that it is preaching and is a warning to men out there who allows women such as this to destroy their lives and families Some never learn and is old and foolish and will someday be in hell and wishing for the wife of their youth We must pray that these men and foolish women are saved before that door closes

"This scripture goes out to all my hood chicks"

No. But I definitely find this scripture a good one to share. The whole attitude, teeth sucking, head swinging, finger pointing, barking these young girls, and hey even older women, do is considered stupid from the Bible's standpoint!

Seriously, God expects women to act like LADIES! Think before you speak! Be calm and seek to find solutions, not arguments.
  • Topel Sweeney on Proverbs 9 - 10 years ago
I like how the Lord shows us that Lady wisdom is a keeper at home and a homesteader. Both of which require desire & diligence. One of the ministries of the Holy Spirit of God is to lead the believer into all truth and I love how He confirms things through the Word as I spend time in it. Praise Be to GOD!
  • Greg Lowe on Proverbs 9 - 10 years ago
Interesting the way God condescends to communicate to us. Proverbs was originally written to young men who would rule Israel. What do young men care about? Women. God presents wisdom as a lady and folly the same, two competing voices vying for a hearing. Which one listens to determines their ultimate fate in life. To turn one's heart towards the Lord of life is to be in the path of life, where one learns how to live. To fear God is to listen to and defer to his truth and that is where wisdom in life is found. The heart of the hearer determines who he will listen to, sin, or wisdom, one's own perspective on life, or Gods.

I say, why ask God for something that we already have in Christ and with the Holy Spirit? Isa. 11:2 If we have the same spirit, and just as He was so are we in this world, and the same works that He did so shall we also and greater. We should rather learn who we are in Him first, what He has already given us, and ask how do I use what I already have to your Glory and the benefit of those you send us....

The God that we serve is the great God- He is also very hospitable. These are distinctly and very noticeable in this Proverbs 9. Interestingly, He chooses to speak to us through Solomon the man of the book of Proverbs, in this particular book- and He refers to the fact that Wisdom has built her house and she has hewn out seven pillars. In other words, she has carefully shaped and put in place her pillars, as a matter of fact, more than what a skilful craftsman would do.. And that is that He has prepared a table before you and I in the terrain of the Holy Spirit for spiritual feasting. What meaneth this? Well, all these point to the fact that there is feast that God has prepared for they that love and believe Him through Jesus Christ- and that is on the other side of Jordan. However, on this planet earth, there is an encouraging invitation to feast on the Word of God. In fact, there is the milk of the Word of God, highly inherent in it- and that is for baby Christians and then the meat of the Word is there as well for grownups! In addition to that, there is also the washing of the water through the Word. That purely refers to the aspect of purification and sanctification. In fact, there is also the onion and pepper of it, if you would- and it is only for whosoever believeth. He has also mingled His wine and demands that we forsake foolishness- and that we crave and thirst for the things that the Holy Spirit dispenses and administers. The intent of all these, is that we can be rest assured that He that rescued and delivered us through Jesus Christ of Nazareth- he has also made available, no matter where you and I are, a place that has semblance with the garden of Eden, as it was, in the creation story- and that is in the opening books of Genesis. However, it is only for the discerned; for there are things therein that pertains to the mysteries of the Kingdom of God. May the LORD God, send showers on His church, true revelation and understanding of these things. He that walketh with the wise cannot but have something that would rub on them- and that is the biblical order of righteousness and godliness.
  • Randolph Vance JR on Proverbs 9 - 12 years ago
The fear (from the Hebrew translated as "reverential awe and respect for") of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom. In other words, in the mind of GOD, without that a person is spiritually at ground zero. Of course, accepting Jesus as our Saviour and Lord is the act of humility which exemplifies that starting point of reverential fear in one's life.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Proverbs 9 - 12 years ago
Proverbs 9:17 : The foolish woman says stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. Yet the man who lacks understanding does not know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of hell. Do not respond to her, for open rebuke is better than secret love. Rejoice with the wife of thy youth, and always be glad for her love. The pleasures of sin are but for a moment. Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed holy. Adulterers and fornicators will be judged. Flee youthful lust, and follow after righteousness, with those out of a pure heart. Thank God that when we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Remember what Jesus did when tempted, He quoted scripture. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

  • Stephen on Proverbs 9 - 12 years ago
The fear of the lord is not wisdom but the begining of wisdom.wisdom comes from GOD(james1:5).Therefore to have wisdom we need to ask GOD just like solomon himself did.
  • Tessag on Proverbs 9:2 - 12 years ago
Wisdom is getting ready for a party! She's certainly not trying to drive anyone away, but to entice or coax them to come to her.
  • Lora on Proverbs 9 - 12 years ago
I praise and thank God for giving WISDOM to those that ask and diligently seek HIM. We must seek
Gods Wisdom,Knowledge and Understanding daily in order to handle everything that a new day brings our way whether the day brings a storm or if it brings sunshine. We still need to be GUIDED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO WILL TEACH AND GUIDE US INTO ALL TRUTHS. WITHOUT WISDOM WE WOULD BE LOST IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

The fear of the Lord, that's where it should begin, then let the Lord lead you and your every step, down that narrow path.Separate yourself from this world, not wanting to be like or with the big crowd's,be yourself in Christ Jesus.Peter was giving the"KEY'S"to life and death,by Jesus, and it is in Acts 3:38&39,Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the Holy GHost. For the promise is unto you and your family, as many as our Lord our God shall call.Forgive me if i missed anything in that, and shame on me for not knowing it word for word! John 3:5 state's that if you are not baptized in Water and the Spirit, you cannot enter in the Kingdom of God...everybody think's it's a big mistery, look at 1Timothy 3:16...praise Jesus! He is the only God that i know of that walk on this earth!!! John 1:1 and 1:14...2800 times the bible tell's of the oneness of God and that He is the only Spirit, Ephesians 4:4,5 and the saviour is only one, Isaiah 43:11 and Luke 1:47 and best of all, Isaiah 9:6...the Son is the Father,Prince of peace,GOD...thank-you Jesus that i hear your vioce and know the truth!!!My sheep hear My voice and they follow Me....Yes Lord!!!

Reggie..having gone through a terrible period of rebellion in my own life, not having used wisdom or God's guidance in my life..you're right, it is truly wonderful...beyond understanding...the tremendous love and compassion..wisdom and knowledge of our Heavenly Father!
  • Reggie on Proverbs 9 - 13 years ago
I think , o what a wonderful invitation! What a beautiful place to be invited! The 7 pillars, 7 stars, & 7 golden candlesticks, which are the 7 churches. Jesus said, "I will build my church"!And i go and prepare a place for you! And vs.5 the bread and the wine and this heavenly banquet!!
As a 64 year old tired and broke house painter and drywall finisher, that since the election of Nov.2008, having lost home, business, all credit worthiness, also knowing in and of myself how i failed personally in not applying wisdom, in my life and affairs, but even now i having a desire for understanding and wisdom love hearing the call,"come eat of my bread and drink of my wine".What a sweet comforting invitation! O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are His judgements and His ways past findng out!
  • Linda on Proverbs 9 - 13 years ago
FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF HOLY IS UNDERSTANDING. GIVE INSTRUCTION TO A WISE MAN AND HE WILL BE WISER BUT A JUST MAN WILL INCREASE HIS LEARNING.
