It as though the psalmist is in despair of life or looking to God for a revival in his own heart. God 's word brings life and strength in the battles of life.
In this day of self help book and advice from friends and every conceivable avenue that promises direction we find that much of what we hear is conflicting at best. What are we to believe. The Bible is the one constant, tried and true that has stood the test of time. Guided by the Holy Spirit, there is never and conflict with it 's instruction. It is the only truth we need.
verse 23 seems to be a continuation of thought from verse 22. The psalmist is facing unjust accusations and it seems to be coming from those of some prominence and position. Many times as believers we stand alone and it 's at that time we find comfort in the scriptures. One thing for sure, God will vindicate those who honor Him and stay true to Him, whether in this life or the life to come.
This verse seems to be a continuation of verse 22. The psalmist is under attack from some of position yet he simply clings to God 's word and will not let present circumstances move him from his hope in God and his reliance on Scripture.
The walk of the believer is not an easy for many times what we do is misinterpreted and we end up like the psalmist bearing scorn and contempt from others. It 's bad enough when these are directed to us from unbelievers but it has a intense effect when it comes to us from a brother in the faith. Psalms 55 12-14. The psalmist knew this and prays to God in obvious pain experiencing this very thing. One good thing is revealed in this verse is he is able to come to God with a clean conscience. This is a good lesson for us to take note of. Doing right is not always applauded by those looking on. Never the less doing the right thing is always the best, and we let God sort it out.
There is a truth that is seen in Scripture examples and through the lives still living in our day and that is the law of sowing and reaping. Most who are not Christian say, " what turns around ,comes around ". They know a Biblical truth by experience. God will not be mocked, whatever a man sows so shall he reap. The psalmist knew the value of being steadfast and he saw the sad result of those who resist God.
When a person comes to faith in Christ they begins to experience the same thing that the psalmist did and that is a passion for His word. It is here where we know the Word of Life. Not only does it reveal the only way to God, it also gives hope, endurance, direction, deliverance from sin and so much more. The psalmist longed for obedience and realized the only way to obey God is to know His word for it is here where you realize what it is He desires.
As believers we are all pilgrims passing through 1 peter 2:11. We soon find out this world 's system is contrary to every thing in scripture we have come to believe. The psalmist understood this and knew more that ever he needed God 's word to sustain him.
Did you ever ask the question why two people can look at the same verse of scripture and their understanding is completely different. One will see the truth while the other is blind to it. 1 Corinthians 2 14 helps us understand this. It states the natural man unsaved man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, they are foolishness to him. Why is that? The verse goes on to give that answer. The things of God are spiritually discerned or understood. No matter how intelligent a person is he could never be able to discover God or the things of God without God 's intervention. Even with believers we learn line upon line truth upon truth. The psalmist knew his understanding depended upon God 's revealing the unseen treasures hidden in it.
The Psalmist knows that is of the Lord 's mercy we are not consumed. It is God who gave life and it is God who sustains our lives. Sin deserves punishment however God is slow to anger and has great mercy. He had a desire to live but not only to live but for the purpose of obeying God 's word.
Think of all the benefits of God 's Word. Salvation is only the starting place. God 's word gives us direction, it gives us comfort, it gives us hope, it keeps us from sin etc. This is a very incomplete list at best however just what 's listed here makes it worth while remembering.
The Psalmist had a copy of the scriptures and it was the most precious possession he had. Think of it, the scriptures lead us to eternal life. No other book can do that. What would it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul. This is the place of value that the Bible should hold in every Christians life.
The psalmist has a real desire first to comprehend the truth in which he is reading. That would be the meditation. He secondly shows the purpose of the meditation, not merely for information but for transformation. He wants to obey God his maker and please Him by being a doer of the Word.
The only way for a person to be undefiled in the way is to know the way. The only way to know the way is to read the book of the Way, the law. To try and live your life apart from scripture is to wander into the defiled way. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Living ones life apart from God and His Word is futile and always leads to death.
John.15.7 say if you abide in me and my words abide in you will ask What you desire and it shall be done for you Jesus is the word so you abide in Jesus and Jesus will abide in you may the lord bless you.s read all of John 15.1tur27
If we hide the word in our "heart " it will guide us away from sin and towards God It is the perfect way for sincere believers to live a Christ-like life.
What a man invest his time in will become dominant. To invest your time memorizing scripture will help you think right and live right. The purpose is in holy living. 1 John 2:14B states, I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
The psalmist knew quite that we are prone to wander prone to leave the God we love. It is here, with the whole heart seeking God that we must reside. That my friend is not an easy task to do. Anyone who would say different is unaware of the battle that is raging for men 's souls.
This verse is a Q A all in one verse. The first part is ", how can a young cleanse his way "? An unbeliever would not ask this question for sure. There is a genuine desire here to pattern their to be pleasing to God. The answer follows in the same verse, by taking heed thereto according to thy word. There are a lot of secular self help books that may hint of improving ones life however they miss the true condition of the heart. Only God 's word can bring about true cleansing.
There are times in our life that God may seem distant form us even to the point our being forsaken. It 's in times like these when a person has been walking in God 's word he may have all the confidence in the world even though everything seems stacked against him, however when one fails to walk according to the statutes of God and things turn south, he may begin to feel God has forsaken him.
At times our walk maybe difficult and it is through these difficult we are drawn to His word. It is here where we learn of God and His and His righteousness. Obedience is not always an easy task however when we learn to do what is right, no matter what the cost, we realize it was worth it all.
This is a continuation of thought from verse 5. The person who runs after God and seeks to obey His commandments will not be confounded or ashamed. This doesn 't mean he will not have conflict or tribulation but will triumph in spite of any situation where he is tempted.
Man is born into this world with a fallen nature. On top of that he has the world system to deal with and a enemy called Satan with all his demons. to walk worthy doesn 't happen by accident. In this verse we see a believer in God who recognizes that struggle and desires to have a pure walk. That very desire to walk worthy with God only comes through the Spirit of God. An unregenerate man has no care about God.
When ever a person reads God 's word it is important to remember God doesn 't give suggestions but commands. When we read I it must be taken with all seriousness knowing the commands are not an option that we can accept or reject. We are to be diligent in understanding and obeying with a right heart attitude.
This seems to be a continuation of 119:2. When a person want to walk pleasing to the Lord he will read God 's word and get an understanding of areas of sin that he must turn from and avoid that path.
