David is not claiming perfection as though he never has been disobedient, but what he is saying is his character is one of striving for obedience. He has learned by God whether by discipline or blessing to seek to obey.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:101 - 9 years ago
In verse 100 we ended with the statement that obedience is the proving grounds to one faith and that is is absolutely essential. In verse 101 David is modeling that principle by refraining his feet from evil. We make choices every day that effect our walk with God in one way or another. Walking with God is not an after thought but rather a raging battle that wars in our souls. There is a constant conflict that we are faced with to pull is off the righteous path, and by nature we are prone to wander. If one will walk with God, it will be a determined resolve or it just will not happen.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:100 - 9 years ago
In verse 98 we saw David's wisdom was greater than his enemies, and in verse 99 we saw his understanding surpassed even his teachers. In verse 100 we see even a more remarkable statement when we read that David's understanding was greater than the ancients, or older men. The age of a person may give greater wisdom becasue of experience or observations through time, however they also may grow dull and harden and full of bitterness. I think of the apostle Paul's words to young Timothy full of encouragement because even in his youth he was very wise. David ends verse 100 by saying, because I've kept thy precepts. Understanding without application leads to heresies. Only obedience can be the proving grounds to truth.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:99 - 9 years ago
In verse 98 stated the benefit he being wiser than his enemies because he embraced God's law. In verse 99 he goes on even further in saying he has more understanding than his teachers. This could mean those who may instructed him in his youth, however, he is finding himself approved,a workman who is not ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The simple reason for this would be the invested time David had spent meditating in God's word. Anyone may go there, but there are few willing to pay the price for such a thing. To fall in love with the word is to fall in love with the Author, and when that happens there will be no end to your investment of time to it.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:98 - 9 years ago
Psalms 119:98,99,100 are linked together. At first reading these might seem to be a statement of pride, however they are far from pride but rather these verses state he is more approved. In verse 98 David attributes the fact he is better off because of his understanding of God's law because out of it comes his disciplines of life and the riches that go along with knowing God intimately. Those who do not know God will have no understanding what a life knowing Him would be like, hence they will flounder at best in their understanding of life.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:97 - 9 years ago
David said, O how I love your law. I looked at this, and at first glance, this verse didn't seem to significant, however as I stayed with it, it came alive. Only the redeemed of the Lord will have a love for His word. God's word condemns us, it reveals the sin in our lives and it shows us how short we come from God's standard. Have you noticed that your unsaved friend or love one get real uncomfortable when you share God's word. When someone get saved they change their mind and begin to have a love for God's word because in it they get to know the one that has saved them. David ends the verse saying "it's my meditation all the day," Some of the benefits will be seen in the next few verses.

  • Lilian on Psalms 119 - 9 years ago
God is a miracle worker and He is faithful to his words and Promises. If we are diligently seeking God first into our life we will have his salvation and life in abundance. There is no other Jehovah its only Jesus. Our job now is to believe him, obey his words and love his commandments until rapture. Without our Obedience in Christ we cant see his goodness and mercy. Thanks be to Jesus for the blood that shed for us. By His Blood our Sins are washed and cleansed. I will rejoice always for God have already redeemed us on the cross and will continue praising God and thanking God for everything he have done into my life. Without God in my life i will not see the Glory of God. I will love you Lord Jesus and will keep your commandments and will love them until rapture. i will keep your word and your statues. Amen

when we do his will, he will in turn fulfill our desires and needs, meaning they will be blessed
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:96 - 9 years ago
verse 96. I have seen the end of all perfection. This is probably referring to men's supposed perfection. Then David takes a gaze into God's word and the commands found in scripture, and realizes that no man on his best day could claim perfection. The standards of men are always substandard to those of God simply because they don't understand the holiness of God. Adam and Eve, living in the state of innocence couldn't have known God's will for them unless God revealed it to them. How much more sinful men.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:95 - 9 years ago
This thought is connected to the last verse. In verse 94, David asked God to save him. In this verse we see from what that request is formed. David life was plagued with enemies and they continually sought opportunities to kill him. Living under the gun as David did probably was part of the reason David's walk with God was as close as it was. David was in constant need to hear from God.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:94 - 9 years ago
This verse begins, I am Thine. This is a statement of fact. David belonged to the Lord in every way possible. He was the Lord's servant and friend. David had no friends that were enemies of God. In this verse, David is requesting to be saved. I believe this is connected to the next verse where he mentions the wicked lying in wait to destroy him. His confidence is seen in what follows. "For I have sought Thy precepts". This is a standard response for David from his youth. This is the ability to look at the present disastrous circumstances with a confident hopeful outcome. Knowing God allows you to have that hope.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:93 - 9 years ago
My thought on this verse went to John 6:68, where Jesus turns on to His disciples and ask them, will you also leave me, to which Peter replys, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. David knew this. It was his past experiences that that formed his resolve. It is the hard times that form us, not a bumpless ride through life. Trials are in fact a blessing as they have several benefits. They draw us closer to the Lord and each other in the fellowship. They produce holy living at times and as we see here they increase our love and dependence on God's word. David finishes the verse, for with them thou hast quickened me. Perhaps this the most important part of the verse. Spiritual life comes only through God's word.

Today this scripture verse confirms what God's word is to me a confirmation PTL!
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:90 - 9 years ago
David just confirmed that God's word is settled in heaven. This is a continuation of thought from vs 89. Since it is settled, immovable, what promises that are in God's law are to all generations. Each generation may have the same hope as the last ones did. David then states a comparison between the earths foundation and the riches found in it, with that of His word. The earth is secure and abiding and full of riches and men share in those riches from generation to generation, just like the riches found in scripture.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:92 - 9 years ago
In verse 92 we see the determination of David's trust in God's law. There would be no wavering on his stand about what God had declared in His word. Along with David's steadfastness to God's law was his absolute joy of meditating on it. It is the meditation of God's word in David's daily life that gave him an anchor when times were difficult. Many will run to the scriptures and hope to hear God speak in the storm, and that's ok. How much better to be meditating on His word before the storm reaches our shores. That's what David goes is saying. Unless thy law had be my delights, I should have perished in my affliction. Though a man spend his entire life meditating on God's word, his life would not be wasted.
  • Mike gwereti on Psalms 119:11 - 9 years ago
without the word of God in my heart I would not have been where I am today. it is the word that has preserved my thoughts and shaped my speech. it is His word that has kept me hopeful fro "His word is Life."
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:91 - 9 years ago
This verse is a continuation of thought from the last verse. It is speaking of the faithfulness of God over the things concerning His own. Nothing an over power the purposes of God. Nothing takes Him by surprise. All things work according to His will.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:90 - 9 years ago
How is God faithful? Every sin a man commits deserves the death penalty, however the LORD is gracious, and full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy. He sendeth the rain on the just and the unjust. There is not a man or woman alive, that has lived, that haven't experienced the faithfulness of God. That would be impossible. His faithfulness is to each generation. In other words, there is no generation where God's faithfulness is absent.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:89 - 9 years ago
For ever o Lord, thy word is settled in heaven. There is stability in God's word. Jesus said in Matthew 5,"Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled". For ever is from eternity past till eternity future. How serious is God about his word? Psalms 138:2B. for Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name. Man may change his opinion about what God has declared, and man has, however what God had ordained as law would always remain law what He had affirmed would always remain true what He had promised would be sure forever. The word settled means fixed, or to stand firm. Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not.
  • Sharee clay on Psalms 119 - 9 years ago
It was a blessing to my soul. It spoke to my very situation.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:88 - 9 years ago
Quicken me, means to make alive or to revive. David knew only through God the life source, could he hope to walk in obedience to His testimony. No one, at no time, has had the ability to live a holy standard without God 's word and the Holy Spirit 's empowerment. A person wouldn 't be capable of even knowing what would be according to God 's will, let alone living that standard apart from Him.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:87 - 9 years ago
There are several verses leading up to this one where we see David undergoing severe testing that has literally drained him. He has called on the Lord however in the Lord 's sovereignty he has found no relief. That being said, David has not lost faith, but on the contrary his faith is strengthening. Persecution or hard times are healthy in our lives because the genuineness of our faith not only becomes clear to us but to others around us. David ends this verse saying, " I have not forsaken your precepts. " Understanding where he is at in the struggle makes this an significant statement. This can only be produced by a genuine faith.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:86 - 9 years ago
David is in a good place. He 's searching the scriptures and doing an inventory in his own life. All the accusations are lies, and that puts David in a favorable place to call on the Lord. Suffering is difficult at any time, however I believe the worst suffering in David 's case, would have been if the things said were true. Peter wrote I Peter 2:20b but if when you do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:85 - 9 years ago
The proud have dug pits for me. Anyone who lives godly for any time at all may attest to that. I believe the pits are lies and deceit used to tear David 's character down, as they do all godly. One thing these wolves have in common is their distain for God 's word, "which are not after thy law ". I believe the Law 's standard is so far above these characters and so condemning, that it enrages them. Their love for sin is so strong that anything that would threaten their involvement in it must go.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:84 - 9 years ago
David is in despair of life. He 's not asking God how long am I 'm going to live, but rather Lord if you don 't intervene, I have no hope. David is looking for vindication. When wilt Thou execute judgment on them that persecute me? God is good in all that he does, however I believe God is best seen for His good in situations like David 's. There is no hope but in God, and then God shows up!
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:83 - 9 years ago
David is being brought low by the afflictions he is going through God seems to be absent however David 's faith is strong. He is not about to bail out on God. It 's said that hard times either make us bitter or better. You can see by David 's response that it made him better. The true believer in Christ will stand obedient and withstand all test. He is not trusting in feelings but the word of God.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:82 - 9 years ago
This seems to be a time when God is stretching David 's faith. David is combing the scriptures for answers and he 's asking God for comfort. There are times when God is silent, but never absent. We see in the next verse his resolve.
