Psalms Chapter 53 Discussion

Psalms Chapter 53 Discussion

  • Richard H Priday on Psalms 53 - 2 years ago
    Psalm 53.

This Psalm shows the state of those who would call themselves "atheists" today. Verse 1 addresses them as a "fool." This reiterates the message of Psalm 14. Also; the first 3 verses show the state of "total depravity" among unregenerate man. We see that theme in Psalm 14 as well as in much of the Book of Romans; Jeremiah 17:9; and passages in Isaiah. The question of terminology as to everyone being incapable of doing good and their "totally depraved" state has been debated as to one's response and decision to repent. I would say scripturally God gives the gift of repentance as well as salvation being a free gift ( Eph. 2:8-9).

As to being saving faith; I have discussed frequently the fact that there must be remorse for offending a Holy God (as seen with Peter's fall) as opposed to Judas falling away where the consequences of his actions were the cause of his grief.

Verse 4 is rather vague; it could be referring to those without faith that affect the mindset of the Jewish nation or actually are those physically attacking them. More often than not; however it was the foreign gods that caused the most damage from intermarriages; or God's direct judgment that brought about an invasion. Verse 5 alludes to an unnamed event; perhaps something like the angel of God slaying 185,000 Assyrians encamped outside the gates of Jerusalem in one night ( 2 Kings 19:36).

Verse 6 also is uncertain as to a time frame; there was as far as I know no major diaspora in the time of David. It certainly is relevant to any future ones; especially in the light of the Babylonian captivity to come and in the future Tribulation. God eventually will complete His actions after bringing back Israel in 1948; but that won't be until near the end of the Tribulation for the 1/3 that are refined in that period (see Zech. 13:8).

Unbelief in Jesus is a death sentence for the unsaved.

We are not of this world anymore. We look for the new world to come. Faith always looks forward. Lots wife died by looking backwards, after she was ordered not to.

We still sin until we ask the Holy Spirit to come along side of us, to enable us to resist temptations. He will do that. When you feel that pull between the flesh wanting to sin; it's a good time up put in an emergency call to the Holy Spirit. Satan wants our walk with God to feel defeated. He hates God and us.

Even if you feel ashamed and defeated yet again: take those sins to 1 John 1:9. Then receive the cleansing.

We can ask the Holy Spirit for the Gift of discerning of spirits. We learn discern the spirits at work around us. Ask for it.

    Human spirit

    Evil spirit

    Holy Spirit

    Angels

Instead of wallowing in defeat, pray and be cleansed and restored. Read these too: Hebrews 4:13-16; Hebrews 2:14; (a warning) Hebrews 10:26

Hebrews is a good book to read at a snails pace. It has much to say about sin. It ends with people whom God mentions as heroes of the faith (chapter 11). Even King David that had Bathsheba's husband killed in battle so he could marry her. Their first baby died as a result.

We are not of this world anymore. The more Bible we have in us; the less likely we'll choose to sin willfully.

Satan hauls us before the Court of heaven and Accuses us with those sins. Jesus has to step up as your Advocate (defense attorney) and prove your innocence by opening the Book of Life to verify your name is written down in there. Hebrews 2:1, 3 and Revelation 3:5

We have a born again nature that wants to follow Jesus and live the born again life.

    Revelation 3:15-22

Consider these things in your walk with God: following His son Jesus. Pray, confess, depend on the Holy Spirits help.

'Apostolic' means pertaining to or characteristic of an apostle. So, if you're thinking of an 'apostolic succession', that term is generally used by Roman Catholics to show that the papacy is founded on the apostles. I don't support this implication though. Or, you have the 'apostolic Church', which presumably tries to follow all the teaching & traditions set down by the apostles, including the manifestation of all the spiritual Gifts.

Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. I was watching a program on youtube of this new program in Israel called "One For Israel Ministry", And These comments reminds me that this group of people who once turned away from the LORD JESUS is now calling out and winning people to Christ on this program. So Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. I think its great!!!. :) I think all will be glad to see that this is happening right now in our time.

Mariya yes, the children of men killed the faithful one. But it was part of God's Providence, as it fulfilled the Scriptures. God was able to use the evil in men's hearts to defeat Satan. It's one of the things that God does best. That is, he's great at making good come out of bad.

There was One who was faithful, but the children of men killed him. The righteous blood is on their filthy hands.
  • A disciple on Psalms 53 - 7 years ago
".. the children of men ..gone back ..become filthy ..the workers of iniquity ..who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God." The Lord Jesus has sent us into the world as lambs in the midst of wolves. As it was in the days of Noah; the Elect fell away out of envy of the men of the world, became hardened against the conviction of the Spirit, and corrupted the whole world.
  • Seven Trumpets on Psalms 53 - 7 years ago
There is a difference between the workers of iniquity and God's people; and it is that we call upon God, and the other says, no God. What is their folly? and what is their filthiness? Isn't it it the evil in their hearts, and how they go away from God, and refuse all knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and make their life's purpose to oppress and persecute the real Children of God!
  • Irene123 on Psalms 53 - 7 years ago
But still, in OUR age of Grace - we are to pray for the 'fools'; He came not to condemn the world, but to save it - one individual at a time; not the whole unrepentant world. There are actually people that believe the world was saved when Jesus was crucified - and there is nothing we need to do - except 'kick back' and enjoy our lives. Why then, would He have sacrificed Himself ..... ?

I would like prayer for me and my kids and family God's protections and abounding love upon us and with us always and for salvation for me and household thank you
  • Ezekiel on Psalms 53 - 8 years ago
The declaration in the heart, the lie told to one's self, the subtraction and utter refusal to accept the intuitive knowledge of the existence of God from our core beliefs becomes the catalyst to uninhibited indulgences and reckless action as a ship without a rudder being driven by the whimsical desires of one's flesh as the enemy of sets a course for destruction of the soul culminating in everlasting judgment by almighty God, all because of a refusal to retain God in their thinking, to give him due homage honor and respect by allowing him to dictate how the creature we are of his design, should act and live.
  • Annie on Psalms 53 - 9 years ago
When sin is encountered in its ugliest form yet noone stands up for righteousness sake the scripture resounds across the earth " all we like sheep have gone astray everyone to his own way."
It is sin ascending to the heavens in unbearable proportion in the face of a holy God that led to the Great Flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and the captivity of Israel.

Psalm 53:1 - Praise God He seeks after us for I have no righteousness and do no good but when my chains are gone I will be glad and rejoice in His salvation...even today! Praise God!
  • Brianna on Psalms 53:1 - 9 years ago
Solomon brought out there is nothin new under the sun. Atheism was even some thing from Bible times. Despite people living in times with direct intervention from God, individuals still chose to not believe in their creator. Satan really does blind the kind of unbelievers.
  • Samantha on Psalms 53 - 10 years ago
I believe it means because we serve a forgiving God who doesn 't punishes us if we asks for forgiveness and are truly sorry, the ignorant belie ve there is no God. Their presumptuous sinning will soon reach to the nostrils of the Lord, then they will know that we serve a Mighty God.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Psalms 53:6 - 11 years ago
O that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion. When God brings back the captivity of His people, let Jacob rejoice, and Israel will be glad. This Psalm looks forward to the second advent of the Messiah, for His feet shall land on Mount Zion, and He shall rule with a rod of iron. There will be peace in the valley, and the desert will blossom like a rose. Jacob will rejoice, and Israel will be glad. The Lamb of God that was slain will become the Lion of the tribe of Judah to take His reign as the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
  • Dawn on Psalms 53:6 - 11 years ago
I believe this means like when the people told Elisha; it is too hard to live Holy, let us just receive the judgment.
