Psalms Chapter 9 Discussion

Today, Psalm has really gotten me to understand that we as humans can adjust to all sins but with the help of the Lord, "though has destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever." ( Psalm 9:5), for which is why as we put our trust is it too help us to come to full understanding from the rights and goods that we must do with His help.
  • Richard H Priday on Psalms 9 - 2 years ago
This Psalm has many in depth descriptions of judgment including the final judgment of man.

I would call it more of a "declaratory" Psalm rather than "impreccatory" as it is more of a cause and effect statement of man's state of reaping what they sow. There seems to be no specific enemy of David that is being referred to here.

Verses 3 and 4 remind us of Psalm 23 where "in the presence of my enemies" a table is set before God ( Psalm 23:5). This verse is often lost; it seems in the theme of reassurance that people like to glean here (perhaps an uncomfortable verse for those who don't like to see this side of God's character).

Verses 5 and 6 remind us of Armageddon; as well as other verses such as Isaiah 14:17 on Antichrist. Verses 7 through 12 describe the justice of God's rule such as will be during the Millennium ( Isaiah 11:4). Verse 13 and 14 could also apply in some ways to Christ's suffering to death under His enemies and His return to the eastern gates ( Psalm 24:7); or perhaps the state David felt in constantly facing the threat (but never the actuality) of his enemies killing him.

Verses 15-17 are like many other cross references as well; with the first mention in Psalms of hell (v. 17). It is interesting to note that those nations who "forget God" are also included with the wicked unregenerate in particular. That indites places like the USA who have familiarity with the Gospel but not a "love of the truth." ( 2 Thess. 2:9-12).

The end (verse 18-20) once again show the nations fearing God and the needy "not always forgotten." That surely would indicate a state in the Millennium as even Christ said "the poor you always have with you." ( Matt. 26:11). Even in that verse; Christ takes precedence over all things; as He is the one to overcome and Lord of all. (see again Isaiah 11:4 and many other passages in that book for further insight).

'Alway' & 'Always' are the same. The former is an archaic adverb of what we generally use today. You will see it appear in Philippians 4:4 & many other verses throughout the Scriptures as well as the word 'always' showing up. Why the translators chose to do it this way, I don't always know (or, was it 'alway' know).

small type of in Psamls-9 v18

For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

For the needy shall not (always) be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever.

Hi Eric Lopez ! Its nice to know you are still out there ,we must remember that the lessons in the Bible teach us about all humanity ,not just the bad guys ,we can all fall into sin at any time because we are imperfect humans ,the lessons are about other people yes ,but they are there to show us what can happen to us ! We all fall short of the Glory of God and when we do we must remember that no matter how badly we have behave He never stops loving us for one second ,so we must run right back to Him as fast as we can and ask His forgiveness ,sometimes when i think about the love of God and the love of Jesus my feelings of innadiquacy are enormous and overwhelming but we mustnt allow our own failings to seperate us from our God ,He wants us with Him ! Even though He knows me and all my faults He wants me with Him ! You to Eric ! He adores you !

Put fear in them so they may stay as men...wow very powerful. Our egos can drive us to think we are more than man. Money corrupts the soul in the wrong hands.

I have the first 9 verses of John 14 committed to memory from the King James version. This was about 10 years ago, but not sure where that bible is now.

Thanks for getting me strait on the facts. I will use the correct name from now on.
  • Richard in Christ - In Reply on Psalms 9 - 3 years ago
Interesting. Where have you seen Nathan used in John 14:8-9? I have always known this to be Phillip by what I've read. Checking a site with 26 different versions of the Bible they all had Phillip.

Was this a certain Bible you saw the other name there? Thanks David.

You're Right, Man has never been able to solve Mans problems, you can't repair the heart, The Lord came to give us a new one. We are to use the word of God when dealing with the world issues.

I see the name Philip and Nathan used to refer to the person Jesus was talking to in the book of John in chapter 14:8. I'm confuse now as to which man to ascribe the credit to for his lack of wisdom for: "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, (which name goes here?)"

Insignificant I know, but just wondering which apostle to ascribe the lack of knowledge to after so long a time with Jesus?

I hope I'm correct in that it seems that this current enormous battle is drawing me closer and closer TO Yahvah and His teachings. I find more and more reasons to call on Him for help! I don't know how anyone is holding up under our current insanity withOUT Him!

Hello Joseph Perry: First and foremost we are to obey God' Laws over mans law. I'm sorry that you see no difference between the political left verses the right. Donald J Trump stood for pro life and and was a friend of Israel, while Biden and company are opening the floodgates of death by supporting Planned Parenthood and have not even acknowledged Israel, while pushing a false narrative that America is systemically racist. I said, wake up America because we have in many cases fallen asleep as for truth. Too many people believe everything the main stream media says at face value without doing research to see if what they said is true or false. We as Christians are to search the scriptures in order we rightly divide truth from a lie. Likewise we should be diligent and watchful as to our surroundings and government. Yes we are to pray for them, while at the same time love what God loves and hate what God hates. We as Christians should be discussing what our government is doing, and pray that we are not deceived. I pray daily that God exposes my sins and that He gives me ears to hear and eyes to see all He would have me see and hear. In the end all will stand in front of our holy God and give an account for what we did and didn't do. It's only by His grace by which we are saved and by which we can stand. Amen...

    Excellent.

Like many others, I consider that my own current "mission" is to bring Yahvah back to our principality and to remove the overt demonic influences--or satan's current ownership of our governance in high places. This is not political in that both parties are sick to death with satanic illness.

Certainly, my overall mission is to know, love, and serve the Lord and to live His ways; but under this umbrella, I believe I must yell, "Fire!" in this burning building. OR...to avoid interrupting the metaphor, I might yell, "Incoming!" Because of my age, aspects of raising a family or earning a living don't interfere with my external mission against the darkness--improving my qualifications.

My old heart is surely in it.

    Hi Bev.

God called us out of this chaotic world to bare light on it to bring as many as we can out, There is an enemy behind the scene, as Chris said we wrestle not against flesh and blood. Our job is to do what the Lord has called us to do, Not to say you don't speak up for what's right and wrong, YOU DO. ALWAYS.

But be careful not to abandon the Lord's mission to join a battle in the secular world where often the Devil is the general on both sides.
  • Chris - In Reply on Psalms 9 - 3 years ago
The Apostle Paul paints the picture of a soldier at war. When we consider the soldier, with his responsibilities, his focus on the job at hand & his deprivations, we get the picture of a Christian in his warfare with the Evil One.

A soldier is required to obey every command no matter how difficult or unreasonable that might be. He has to be focused on the enemy, watching out for him, because his life & that of his platoon are at stake. Though his mind may wander back to the home, family & friends he left behind (& maybe to never see again), he brings himself back to the duty before him because it requires his full concentration. He is deprived of luxuries, of sufficient sleep & food, always at the ready at his superior's command. He thinks not of his own life, but of his company & the country for which he might one day lay down his life.

So when we look at the soldier, we can certainly see clear similarities to the warfare of a Christian. However, our warfare is "not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." ( Ephesians 6:12). So we must ask, 'what are things in this life that would side-track us from our mission?' One could say that anything that renders us weak in faith, deviate from our course, brings on doubt or fear, or engages our minds on worldly matters that do little or nothing to assist us in our battle. Each person would need to put in their own circumstances that have caused them to weaken in their battle. We can "embrace or enrol in the affairs of this life", but not to the point where those affairs are affecting our spiritual walk & warfare. And we could find examples in family, business, pursuit of pleasure, etc. The Christian must always be his own judge in these matters so that his battle may be won.

And verse 5 also speaks of the discipline & focus of the athlete at the (Grecian) games having a chance for the prize.

Lately i have been thinking of the sins i have commited, the people i passed straight everyday, no morning or evening, hi or hellos, people waiting for another meal, or even water to drink, why cant i just wrap my sin in a bag and throw? why cant my own self love me? what wrong have i done? can you reach my friend? been searching through and end, i want to know you more, can you understand? when i knock why not open? i am highly recommended. You have place my sins into the sea of forgetfulness. You formed in your arms of love, make me and mold me, shape me to be whom you want me to be, you are the potter and i am the clay. Help me to be real as i face each day, my mind, my eyes, my heart, my feet, my hands, my fortress, my madewife, i search all over couldn't find nobody, victory belong to me through you my mount Everest. I just want to say thank you LORD. My promise keeper. WNP. RBYI.

OK...I'm not a seasoned child of Yahvah, so I'm asking this to learn:

" 2 Timothy 2:4. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

Is this to say that because we are Yahvah's soldiers we should not embrace or "enroll" in affairs of this life?

If this is the correct interpretation, are there not times when we need to "flip over the tables" because there are those interfering with "God's business"?

If this isn't the correct interpretation...help?

    Hello David,

As there are several list of the twelve apostles in the Bible there are a couple with different names used here to there.

Phillip and Nathaniel are not the same apostles. There are two that have a couple different names:

    Bartholomew is Nathaniel

And Lebbaeus, Thaddaeus, more commonly known as Judas brother of James.

    God Bless.

S Spencer, the Spirit has graced, and is gracing, you with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding (of two to make one new man). You quoted Joel 3:2, do you think the war in the valley of Jehoshaphat is the spiritual warfare spoken of by Paul, or are you of the opinion it is natural. The Spirit has led me to believe it spiritual war. I know by previous comments you understand that the elect will judge the world. What has the Spirit revealed to you about this judgement. The Spirit has revealed to me that THE BOOKS ( Revelation 20:12) or symbolic of the ones judging. The Spirit has put a great hunger and thirst in me to study and understand the prophecies. You understand that the Spirit is assembling a nation of priest and judges. The Spirit has revealed to me that this nation of priest will judge and bring to truth all those raised after these elect have been gathered. Isaiah 66:14-24, 1 Timothy 4:10, Psalms 22:27 Paul taught for two years the kingdom of heaven out of the law and prophets. Acts 28:23-31, Luke 16:31 I love reading the comments of those the SPIRIT IS WORKING in to bring ALL to HIS TRUTH.

Ephesians 4:13 Till we all come in the UNITY of the FAITH, and of THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SON OF GOD, unto a perfect man (of two to make one new man), unto the measure of the STATURE AND FULNESS OF CHRIST.

Hello, I have been looking for a bible verse to inscribe on my hushand birthday gift, but honestly I am new to TRULY believing. I was born in Quebec/Canada, the french part, and I still have difficulty with my english speaking.

So, since I can't work I do some Art, and I started working leather. He hate putting something with his main car key but he often have difficulty to find it. So I though tabout making him something small, where I could insert a mini natural oil mix bottle for his sinus.

I am not sur what to inscribe on. I was thinking something along the line of health or something about communication. So here are some of my idea:

    Hatred stirs up strife,

    But love covers all sins

    Proverbs 10:12

    Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed;

Saved me, and I shall be saved,

    For You are my praise.

    Jeremiah 17:14

For His anger is but for a moment,

    His favors is for life;

Weeping may endure for a night,

But joy comes in the morning.

    Psalm 30:5

    Be of courage,

And He shall strengthen your heart,

All you who hope in the LORD.

    Psalm 31:24

    Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your GOD.

    I will strengthen you,

    Yes, I will help you,

I will uphold you with MY righteneous right hand.

    Isaiah 41:I0

Cast your burden on the LORD

    And He shall sustain you;

He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

    Psalm 55:22

That's what I have come to right now. I would be delighted if anyone have a better suggestion, on has any comments or idea on which would be the best.

    thank you very much

    GOD be with you all.

Is Phillip and Nathaniel the same apostle?
  • Joseph Perry - In Reply on Psalms 9 - 3 years ago
What government was Paul talking about when he said to obey them? Romans 13:1-7 The USA is a capitalist nation first and a liberal or conservative somewhere down stream. Which do you prefer, the groups mentioned or the Trump supporters? I see them as being pretty much equal. I don't see many people turning the other cheek, believing in honesty and ethics.

Why has this become part of this discussion? Remember what Jesus told Nicodemus

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."

    John 3:5-6 (KJV)

This might be a good time for prayer and guidance.

Like nations we as individuals inside the nation should do our best to walk in God's statutes. Pride and Haughtiness is what destroys nations. There is no geographic land mass that will be taken up before the Great tribulation.

Here's you Holy nation. ( The church!! )

Matthew 21:43. Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

1 Peter 2:9. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

According to scripture here's where the rest of the world stands.

Joel 3:2. I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

As Christians we should be trying to pull as many people we can out of this battle! Instead of joining in on a vain fight that's been going on in the world since the beginning. That's flesh seeking fleshly things, " ON BOTH SIDES "

2 Timothy 2:4. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Be the light you was called to be.

People become upset frustrated and angry if they feel injustice is going on ,these are understandable feelings ,especially when people feel helpless to stop injustice ,there will never be any real justice in this world as long as we live under human governments ,Christ is coming ,his reward is with him and his work is before him ,all knees will bend to him and no one will be allowed to unjustly treat any one else ,at all ,ever ,please hurry up Jesus ,we all need you with us very desperately .

To Sheree: I believe Kevin was only stating fact, as to Antifa, blm, lgbt, etc. We have all sinned and fall short of His glory. Putting that aside, we are to call sin for what it is. The groups Kevin mentioned are Marxist/communist organizations who are hell bent on destroying our nation. Time to wake up America!!!
