Richard, Just a few thoughts on Rev. 17,18. The figures of speech in prophecy can be many with various interpretations. We tend to apply it to what we know and are familiar with. A whore or harlot in the scripture is one who has many lovers (sources of affection). Some of the wording in these chapters suggests it is a church that lost their first love "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird". she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. The reason she could think she "is a queen" is she is married to the King. "I am no widow" is because he husband is "risen". "and shall see no sorrow" she can't lose her salvation. Notice that she has "become" the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. At one time she wasn't the habitation of devils etc. When I read Revelation I try to apply only what the Bible says about the different things. It seems to take on spiritual meaning and warning. Example: Rev. 8:10,11 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. Possible meaning: star fell from heaven (minister of the word falls from truth) the 3rd part of the truth is altered (not all of it yet). The water (Word) becomes Wormwood (poisoned) and many men died (spiritually) because they were made bitter.
There is still speculation as to whether this "queen" that made these boastings in verse 7 is a symbol of the Statue of Liberty and symbolizes America with its maritime trade; particularly focused on the financial markets of New York City. There are many clues in Jeremiah and many have written on this subject; nonetheless it is possible that a future city to be built in the Mideast may fulfill this prophecy.
We can certainly see the main theme here is that an economic system which the world will trade with in the last days will be destroyed at this point. The is fallen statement said twice in verse 2 (as I probably stated previously) would indicate the spiritual Babylon falling then the economic one; which makes this some point after the midpoint of the Tribulation. Verse 23 explains the merchants as being "great men of the earth" so that unbelievably it would seem that some are still living in luxury until very near the end of the Tribulation. The timing isn't exact here as chapter 17 and 18 are sort of a parenthesis between chapter 16 and chapter 19. It would have to be before the vial judgments as the whole world will be affected by that.
Also it would be very near the time when the kingdom is plunged into darkness (4th vial I believe). That could symbolize an electrical grid (or as I suspect a solar powered infrastructure regional breakdown so that trade no longer can occur). This judgment of God in "one hour" verse 19 could not only show swiftness; but possibly the brevity of time when this worldwide trade was at its peak.
The responsibility for the blood of prophets; saints and all those slain on earth is specific for that time; although certainly shows how a pattern of false worship has led to centuries of martyrdom for those seeking to keep their kingship; and economic power. Whatever false church (i.e. the great whore) that exists after the Rapture will resemble the Laodiceans today.

Another sign we are able to search is current news through the internet. The Palestinians in the Middle East (I mean specifically NON-Jews). They are looking for a man they call Mahdi. Some say Muhammad Mahdi). Most likely he will become The Antichrist. He may be in the United Nations. He will be Palestinian by blood line. So whoever he is, his father is also Palestinian.

This should awaken you to WHY things are happening. Like world wide drought. Water sources drying up. Food is becoming limited because of crop and meat animal deaths. No fertilizer. We may become like Africa which is experiencing mass deaths of people, meat animals, no fresh water. Christians are being killed for their faith.
Basically; the final destruction of Babylon didn't occur. Revelation 17 seems to talk of the spiritual Babylon; something the Beast has to destroy to gain complete worship for Himself (i.e. Satan). Revelation 18 discusses the economic Babylon and a "great city" being destroyed. Some have guessed this is New York City; others suggest that it is in the same geographical locale as ancient Babylon. The ecumenical center of the 3 monotheistic faiths in Dubai along with a city 30 times larger than New York City which is planned to be ultramodern; with a drone based transportation system makes this seem more feasible.
At any event; this will make way for the Mark of the Beast; and either worship of Satan or of God. There will be no more false religious system; or any comfort in materialism. We must remember that it is worshipping the image of the Beast with food being a sidenote that drives people to taking the mark. Death will be for all those not taking it; although a few will survive until the end and into the Millennium period in hiding.
Thankfully; 2 Thess. 2 seems to indicate that the church will be out of here before that. Also we have the verse about the gates of hell not prevailing against the church today ( Matt. 16:18). However; the saints will be overcome according to Daniel in the time of Jacob's trouble ( Rev. 13:7; Daniel 7:21; Jeremiah 30:7).
These prophecies must surely occur; although it is held back to some extent now. Once the lawless one is revealed; things will be exponentially worse than ever before and than it ever will be ( 2 Thess. 2:8; Matt.24:21).

Another verse to consider Verse 7: she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Interpretation: "I sit a queen" she thinks she is married to the King. "am no widow" her husband is alive (risen). "shall see no sorrow" (nothing I do will lose this standing) "eternal security." Just some thoughts that has come over the years.

I noticed the word sorceries here is Pharmacy. I have no confident with the Pharmaceutical industries. I was sick and healed so quickly by taking all natural supplements. My "Professional"Doctor seems to be frustrated by me taking supplements. Because Certified Doctors are promoting Pharma drugs. Scary. I know for a fact that my Mom died using all drugs from doctors gave her. I witnessed her transformation until the end of her life. Before I found this site , two or three years ago , I found quite a few other so called Christian sites . The Bible was never discussed on any of them , they were basically people bitching about and judging others on the site . I made a Bible reference about not judging one another on one of those sites and was shot down in flames by everyone on there for using the Bible against them . Oh the irony ! There's definately a difference between Christian sites and Bible sites , give me a Bible site any day , there are far too many people who call themselves Christians who make no effort at all to understand any of the Word of God and they actually resent others who do make the effort and who know something about the Bible . They complain that people who know the Bible are just trying to make them ( the ones who don't even want to know ) feel bad or guilty for not wanting to read it . I'm not kidding ,I wish I was . Stick with us , we are all imperfect on here but the vast majority on here are willing to learn from each other and help each other and are genuinely interested and want to know what God says .

I've heard commentary that Babylon represents the Roman Catholic Church, and I can accept that application, but I think it is a more appropriate application to say Babylon represents the formerly Christian nation of America that has become apostate during the last days. Babylon in Revelation is a "city" full of people doing great business and making tradesmen around the world rich through commerce. The Catholic Church is primarily guilty of making its officers rich, but not enriching world businessmen so much.

Although there is a wide acceptance by christians in US that Babylon is America as i read in comments, over here most christians believe that Babylon represants EITHER the apostat church during the times of antichrist, that is the union of all cosmic churches and/or religions which they accept anything apart from the truth of the Word of God, anything that sounds nice to their ears, and possesses wealth and power and serve the plans of antichrist OR it refers to globalization, the universal political, economic, cultural ...system of the modern world we live in.

I suspect the "her" of Revelation 18 is America, but could be referring to any nation or group who fancies themselves to be in God's favor but are not and, like the Church of Laodicea, are rich and increased with goods but lacking the filling of God's Spirit.

There are a number of books on the subject; although other than "The two Babylons" regarding the spiritual and economic ones; the names escape me at present. There are many scriptures in the O.T. particularly in Jeremiah that seem to indicate America indeed is being referred to. The land "divided by rivers" which has a mixture of people or a melting pot is indicated. It seems that people in the land were said to know the Lord; and yet the occult is something present simultaneously. Revelation itself seems to show that the fornication and great wealth was the history of Babylon; as well as a military might "the hammer of the earth". We currently have over 800 military bases worldwide; and the fact that we have suffered no direct war on our mainland except for the 911 event may make some think we are indestructible. But we have fomented pornography and violence through the internet to the world; as well as established occultic symbolism in Wash. D.C. with the design of the Pentagon; the Washington Monument and the street grid. NYC clearly is an economic hub and it appears that ever rising stocks in the last generation are vastly overdue for a fall. The whole world economic system is tied into our trade (i.e. stock exchange) which truly would wail at the downfall. There is; of course the one world religion planned for Abu Dhabi as well s a city 30 times bigger with drones than NYC. The Pope is behind this; as well as the Temple being rebuilt by Turkey; and Saudi Arabia. So there could be multiple locations; and worldwide ramifications wherever Babylon is. Our country is; however divided by rivers unlike those parts of the world we have MANY waters; and coastlines. Merchants of Tarshish (Spain); and the young lions thereof in the isles could be vague references to the USA as well having come from England.
Dear "Barbara Kuks", in peace we get to read the rest of the chapter and understand that this unfortunately no longer exists in our world. Horses and carriages, (forces and cars)? Have you read the whole chapter? Today there are many big cities. Are there really harpists, musicians, flute players and trumpet players, And the sound of millstones in NY? Would it be possible to hear these instruments through the noise of the city? And what kind of sorcery is there in the city? Which is not also found everywhere on earth today. This is not an end-time story for one city. Wake up now! The words speak to us all, repentance is necessary.
In verse 8 we can imagine the unrest coming. For here is the Lord God judging her. The unrest we can think about is atomic bombs. But then the whole earth will go, not just one city.

Although there is a wide acceptance by christians in US that Babylon is America as i read in comments, over here most christians believe that Babylon represants EITHER the apostat church during the times of antichrist, that is the union of all cosmic churches and/or religions which they accept anything apart from the truth of the Word of God, anything that sounds nice to their ears, and possesses wealth and power and serve the plans of antichrist OR it refers to globalization, the universal political, economic, cultural ...system of the modern world we live in.
And please let me make an observation. If you think America has a faith problem you should come to Europe to see what atheism is really like. America still holds on in faith. Please keep doing the good work fellow christians.

In verse 8 we can imagine the unrest coming. For here is the Lord God judging her. The unrest we can think about is atomic bombs. But then the whole earth will go, not just one city.

I have family and friends in the RC system...I can't call it a church. A lot of true Christians left the RC system an excellent book is "50 Years in the Church of Rome". By Charles Chiniquy a RC priest who left and became a Presbyterian minister (sadly today also in the RC system).

it does seem like we are the babylon. i'm a catholic and we were never taught to actually read the bible.
i have many christian friends that feel we have been deceived and that the vaccines are the mark.... that the filth, ( pornography...child trafficking, the satanic rituals) and ungodly behaviour...(proven from eyewitnesses whistleblowers ) by our world leaders participating ( yes, in us, rome etc )
has been allowed by us... with no challenge... we have with our apathy and .. acquiesced, and as a result, have ignored these worldly evils, thus god and the angels are angry...our destiny will be god's rath...... our beautiful world has ... been dominated by the evil one...the devil.. i pray for the world
