God made a promise to Abraham he being the olive tree, the Church his people would be saved, by their boasting of being God's chosen we gentiles being heathens would never be worthy of God's grace, why God broke branches off, so we should live grateful, humble and walk in faith, giving thanks to the Father always , die to our fleshly ways so we may be saved, don't be boastful we can be cut off
  • Vanessa - In Reply on Romans 11 - 4 years ago
Paul spoke of it being Abraham's tree, God made the promise to him, that his people will be his people and we are only grafted in by unbelief and should never boast in that fact be grateful, for we are of wild olive trees and Abraham's was the pure olive tree GB

On the second paragraph of this chapter's commentary, I beg to differ. One Abraham is not the root but Christ is. We are are grafted in Christ as the olive tree for He alone is Holy and hence if the root be holy so are the branches. Second we are saved by grace hence made heirs through the faith of Christ and not Abraham, Abraham was mere man like the rest of us. John 1:12, we are children of God.
  • LYLE R SHORT on Romans 11 - 5 years ago
The olive tree analogy is speaking only of Israel and Gentiles who became part of Israel. That has to be the case since the body of Christ never had or has conditional salvation, but Israel did. To truly understand this chapter one has to know all the rest of Paul's epistles. Israel, the body of Christ and the little flock of faithful Jews are separate entities.

In it's context, Romans 9, 10 and 11 is to and about the nation of Israel, how they had it's standing with God, how they lost its' special standing when they rejected Christ and how they will be born again during Christ's second coming. They were born the first time in Exodus 4:22 when they were delivered out of Egypt and received the Old Covenant, they will be required to be born again.
  • D W L on Romans 11 - 5 years ago
Amen, Alex Jesus said you Must be Born Again. Very easy to see there is no debate or what we think it’s MUST.
  • BSP on Romans 11 - 5 years ago
Verse 33: there is no end to what we can learn about Jehovah God’s thoughts, words, or ways.
  • Gonzalo on Romans 11 - 6 years ago
As silly humans we try to rationalize, dispute, make arguments, make our own private interpretations , But in verse : 33--- O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! is the answer, we will never understand his ways.---There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD..
  • Alex on Romans 11 - 6 years ago
Hiya Wayne GBU yes i see that but keep in mind that natural Israel will have to be bornagain there is no other way for them or the Gentiles to be Saved. Keep in mind that all the DISCIPLES were JEWS but they ALL had to be Bornagain of an Incorruptible SEED no EXCEPTIONS. Thats y there is no more jew or gentile all men carry the STAIN and the SPOT of Adam THUS ALL MEN WILL HAVE TO BE BORNAGAIN

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. Gentiles who believe in Jesus Christ are not Israel's replacement! The neighboring countries presumed to usurp the holy land when Israel went into captivity. Instead of mourning they rejoiced!
  • Edna on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
God provided thru faith the Jews first and the gentiles(he is no respect of persons) a way to eternal life .He has not forgotten the Jews, that well he deal with later. Until all the gentiles come in then all will be saved
  • Skell on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Romans is our doctrine for today , we are in the But Now. For those that are looking for doctrine in the time past ,acts, or ages to come, are missing what God is doing today. Romans through Philemon have very different language than the rest of the bible, his writing were given to him from the Risen Lord, its for the Gentile the Body of Christ.

Eternal truths- Of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever.

Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office: God gave Paul an OFFICE. Paul speaks to the Gentiles, hear what he has to say...

Bruce, John 6:44"draw"is a call, high calling of God. Romans 11:29 "For the gifts and calling of God, are without repentance." Apparently God called you with a"tug of the heart", but you cannot go around saying that it would happen to everyone that he calls. If this is what you are saying you are in breach of Ro.11:29, you are implying that one should repent/not saved; if they did not feel a tug.
  • Mike Saved by Grace on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Those that were grafted in where the little flock not the gentles. Romans 21 sayest For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. verse 22 if thou continue in his goodness. Our salvation is a gift in the grace disposition. Believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for the payment of your sins for and have eternal life. Trust in what Jesus did.
  • Andy on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Sentinel God,s gift of salvation is a gift you cannot work to get it.
You become born again you are changed this will produce in you a desire to serve God and do works. Works come as a result of a relationship with God not the other way around.
Jesus death on the cross paid our debt no work we can ever do can equal His sacrifice
  • Irene123 on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Child of God - We, the Gentiles, were grafted in. God DOES NOT think like we think. He has provided FULL salvation for us , just as He did for Israel in the O.T. When we are saved we are granted the FULL benefits of that salvation. God is NO respecter of persons, Rom. 2:11; Jas, 2:9; Pro 24:3. No, we are indeed NOT 'step-children'. He wants all to be saved and come to the KNOWLEDGE of the truth.
  • Bruce on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Sentinel:Read John 6:44:called,if you feel a tug on your Heart ask Forgiveness! You will be Washed, Revelation 1:5 and Baptized with The Holy Ghost, Mark 1:8 / You will be changed 2Corinthians 5:17, You will know, Impossible not too! If Saved. You will tell everyone, just like the ones Jesus Healed. It was WOW, Amazing. I thought everyone would get Saved! Soon found out they didn't want to hear it.
  • Sentinel on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
What is this about the remnant, the foreknown, and what does it have to do with us. How do you know then if we are known by God for salvation or damnation. There is still work to be done if you are aware. If I claim salvation based on Paul's teaching, is that it. Sittin' round waiting to die? There's study to find yourself approved. There's the inner life of prayer and inspection. Much todo

Child of God, 1 John 3:1-3, Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called THE SONS OF GOD. Beloved, now are we the sons of God.GBU
  • LaVonne on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
"child of God" Statements concerning being step children would make God unfair, he would have to chose who he would give his inheritance to. Romans 2:11 For there is no respect of persons with God. Rev. 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God and he shall be my son. Rewards will be given to every man according to his work
    Rev 22:12 NO STEP CHILDREN

  • Bruce on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
Child:For ye we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received The Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba,Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with Our Spirit, that we are The Children of God:(17:And if children, then Heirs;Heirs of God and Joint Heirs with Christ if so be that we suffer with Him that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:15-17 /Full Blessing
  • Child of God on Romans 11 - 7 years ago
The Gentiles are grafted in so we are step children, and step children never inherit the full benefits.
