(Verse 2) "Was it because of his good deeds that God accepted Him? If so, he would have had something to boast about. ..." This means that Abraham did not have any good deeds to make God accept him, nor do we. Abraham lived in Chaldaea, a pagan land. And he knew nothing of living by the law. So the law could not have been the standard by which he was declared righteous. His faith was!

It is the same for us today. Yes, we know of the law, and we can read it anytime we want to. But the truth is, the law was not given to the Gentiles, only to the Jews. That is, when Paul went to the Gentiles, their background was paganism, not the Law of Moses. That's why James, in Acts 15, did not try to impose the law upon them as a condition for salvation. They were saved by faith, or their belief in Jesus.

Faith implies friendship. That's why God said of Abraham in Isaiah 41:8:"But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from my friend Abraham." And so it is with God's people today. We believe God, as all good friends of God do. This is a new and different way to relate to God.

"But now God has shown us a different way of being right in his sight--not by obeying the law but by the way promised in the Scriptures long ago. We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. ..."

    God bless you!

Corpe Diem!!! two latin words describing Romans Chapter Four.. "Living before the Face of God" Paul expounds with mastery (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) what might have seemed like new teaching...maybe to the hearers a new heracy... but, backs up this new covenant relationship with the Father by using two Bulwarks from the old.. Abraham and David.. A life of favor before God produces fruit that first focuses on a limitless God (vs 19)... then keeps expectations High (vs20a)...then does not steal glory but gives it freely to the Glorious One (vs 20b)... and finally, Leaves imposssible things before the feet of God in state of peace, knowing He is able (vs 21)... Really, there is no clearer teaching in the Scripture on living a practical life of faith.. It opens the eyes of each Blood Bought believer to see behind the veil and to glean the fruit of a Spirit Filled Life. The key to it All...understand and believe that God the Father raised Jesus the Son from the dead by the Power of the Holy Spirit.. Hows it looking in your life brother and sister?

Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Being saved today is by faith only since Christ died in payment for our sins. There are no required works like water baptism or tithing today to be saved. Jesus did it all.

Abraham Believed God...that is faith. When we by Faith Take God at His Word..we are giving the Glory to God. He tells us We walk by faith, not by sight in 2 Corinthians 5:7KJV. He did not falter, He did not stumble upon the fact that God the Father Told Abraham the Promise ( Genesis 12:1-3KJV) and Abraham merely Obeyed. see also Romans 10:17KJV...Faith comes by hearing God's Word, not man's. If we all could be like Abraham in our own lives...Walking by Faith, by newness of life.

Inndeed,it was not written alone for his sake that he was imputed to righteousness but for us that it shall be imputed to us for righteousness who believed in HIM who raised our LORD JESUS from dead who was delivered for our offences and raised for our justification( Rom 4:19-25).When we belive in this GOD who raised JESUS he woould never fail. This scripture works greatly for me because from my walk with GOD,HE has never failed for once and has always kept to HIS promises,I ***ure you in the name of JESUS that HE would never fail you if you believe in HIS SON JESUS. Try and see and you will never be dissappointed ( Rom 10:11).

We as Christian should always have trust in GOD and we should follow His teaching as His followers; as His only son was crucified for our sins, we should be closer to Him and do righteous things to be saved from wrath.

My Faith is what makes me want to work for my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Faith without works is dead being alone. Abramham had faith to please God. I also want to please Him.

God is able to do the impossible. When He speaks it will surely come to pass. Situation and circumstances do not control Him but He does control them. He is not limited by anything be He sets limit for everything. He is able to reverse the irreversible

4:17, creating into existence through the God creative ability as little gods as was done in Genesis when God said, Let there be,,,,,,,,,,and it came into being. Therefore, the same creative Words is within us to create either good or disaster in the future through our words. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The word became flesh and lived among us. Praise you Jesus. After Adam and Eve lost the Word in the garden of Eden, God so it pleasing to return it through the cross at Golgotha. After receiving Him as our personal Lord and Saviour, the Word was restored within us to create call into being those things which are in accordance God's Will. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word(Jesus) of God. Let's go out there and cause havoc in the kingdom of satan.

Justification is declared to be by faith (believing the promise of God),Not by keeping the Law. When we believe in the promises of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ,we to ,like Abraham have the righteousness of Jesus Christ put to our account.
  • StephendeRafael on Romans 4 - 13 years ago
In Abraham, we have the father of many nations. He is for the jews a prophet because God appeared unto him and reported that there was only one Holy One of Israel, and there were no others. Ditto for the Muslims who are also very Monotheistic(even militant). For the Christian, it was the Faith that was required of him in God's call to offer up Issac, the child of promise and his rightful heir. For God heard his supplication for an heir, but Abraham first had to endure a trial by fire of his faith before faith would be truly imputed to him, as described by Paul in this charter of his enlightening epistles

Calling the things that be not as being.....God foretold to Abraham his seed in the future to come into being. Is it right?
  • Sandy on Romans 4 - 14 years ago
4:20 reads He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was STRONG in faith, giving God the Glory....... even though Sarah laughed, Abraham new that God was more than able to fulfill his promise/prophecy. 4:21 And being FULLY persuaded what he "God" had promised; he was ABLE TO PERFORM! That's powerful!
  • Derek on Romans 4 - 14 years ago
hi, In Genesis 15 God told Abraham he was to have a child and be the father of many nations. Well Abraham was 99 years old and Sarah 90. God was giving this prophecy before it happened as though it was and is already. When God says something it will happen.
