1 precious:
a. costly, יְקָרוֺת אֲבָנִים of costly building-stones 1 Kings 5:31; 1 Kings 7:9-10, 11 compare מוּסָּד מוּסָד יִקְרַת מִּנַּת Isaiah 28:16 a costly corner (-stone) of a foundation, — on construct see DaSynt. § 28, R. 3, 6; יָקָר הוֺן costly wealth Proverbs 1:13; 12:27; וְנָעִים יָקָר הוֺן 24:1.
b. precious, highly valued: יְקָרָה נֶפֶשׁ Proverbs 6:26 precious life; opposed to זוֺלֵל Jeremiah 15:19 (of choice elements of character); י בְּעֵינֵי ׳יָקָר לַחֲסִידָיו הַמָּֽוְתָה Psalm 116:15; מפניים הִיא יְקָרָה Proverbs 3:15 she (wisdom) is more precious than rubies (see also

c. יְקָרָה אֶבֶן collective precious stones, jewels 2 Samuel 12:30 = 1 Chronicles 20:2; 1 Kings 10:2, 10; 1:11 2 Chronicles 9:1, 9, 10; 1 Chronicles 29:3; 2 Chronicles 3:6; 32:27; Ezekiel 27:22; 28:13 (list of precious stones follows), Daniel 11:38; so also Lamentations 4:2, read הַיְקָרִים צִיּוֺן אַבְנֵי (for וגו ׳בְּנֵי ᵑ0), see VB; יָקָר שֹׁהַם Job 28:16 (see also Proverbs 3:15 below b).

3 glorious, splendid (compare Aramaic), of the moon Job 31:26; as substantive = glory, the wicked perish, כָּרִים כִּיקַר Psalm 37:20 like the glory of the pastures (i.e. like gay, but short-lived, flowers).
4 (late and Aramaic) weighty, influential, מֵחָכְמָה יָקָר Ecclesiastes 10:1 weightier than wisdom and honour is a little folly. — In Proverbs 17:27 read Kt וְקַררֿוּחַ and one cool of spirit (see VB); in Zechariah 14:6 read וְקִמָּאוֺן וְקָרוֺת אוֺר יִהְיֶה לֹא there shall not be light but cold and congelation (see id. and Vrss.); **'but is very dubious; read probably וְקָרוֺת חוֺם there shall be neither heat nor cold, etc. (We and others).
