Thank you Jacob. Jesus is wonderful. He died for you, me the entire world when none of us deserved it. It is evident that we all love Him dearly.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Verse 39 is a reference to Daniel 9:7 O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day to the men of Judah, MATCHES ACTS 2:14 YE MEN OF JUDAEA, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, MATCHES ACTS 2:14 AND ALL YE TAHT DWELL AT JERUSALEM, and unto all Israel, MATCHES ACTS 2:22 YE MEN OF ISRAEL, that are near, and that are FAR OFF, THIS MATCHES ACTS 2:39 AND TO ALL THAT AFAR OFF, Ephesians 2:13-17 wasn 't available to anyone until after Acts 28. Paul wasn 't even saved yet and the MYSTERY of the church wasn 't revealed yet See Eph 3:1-9. Those afar off and their children are the Jews of the dispersion who are represented at Pentecost by the list given in verses 6-11. I hope this helps. Much prayer is needed.
  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Look at verse 39. When we are baptized into Christ 's death for the remission of sins, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This was for the Jews that day, their children and all those far off, even as many as God will call. I was called. I was baptized after I believed. This is still true today. Praise God!
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
We need to see the verse where it SAYS, Jesus Christ is the name of the Father. The name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are the Lord. Here are the verses to back that up. You know the Father is called LORD in the O.T. In the N.T. Jesus is called Lord Phil 2:11. The Holy Ghost is called Lord in 2 Cor 3:17. Gentiles are baptized in the name of the Lord in Acts 10:48. You have the baptism of John the Baptist in Acts 2:38 and that is not the gospel by which we are saved today. Acts is a transitional book and has several different ways by which people received the Holy Spirit. In the Church age you receive the Holy Spirit by faith alone Eph 2:8-9.
  • Matthew on Acts 2:38 - 9 years ago
The name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is Jesus Christ! He that hath ears to hear, let him hear!
  • Kasturi jane on Acts 2:3 - 9 years ago
tongues are nothing but languages.i think god wanted the gosple to be preached to the world and so gave the deciples the power to speak in all the different languages of the world through the holy spirit.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
In the books of Acts there are several ways that an individual is saved. The reason is Acts is a transitional book. In Acts 2 people are saved with water baptism added, in Acts 8 hands are laid, in Acts 10 they are saved before water baptism, then in Acts 16:31 believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Baptism in the name of the Lord mentioned in Acts 10 is the baptism for today. The Lord is what the Father is called in the O.T. The Lord is the name of Jesus Christ see Phil 2:11. Then the Holy Ghost is called Lord, Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Jesus name baptism of Acts 2:38 is Jewish baptism and Jews and proselytes are the only ones addressed in that chapter. Anyone preaching Acts 2:38 is preaching a false gospel for today. If you want to apply verse 38 for today why don 't you apply verse 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. Rightly divide your Bible 2 Tim 2:15 or it will divide you Hosea 6:5.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
This gospel being preached in Acts 2 is that of the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the same gospel that John the Baptist preached. Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. The kingdom was still being offered to the Jews because of Jesus ' prayer to THE FATHER, a member of the Godhead Rom 1:20, Col 2:9, Acts 17:29, in Lk 23.34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. In Acts 7 Jesus is standing at the right hand of the FATHER. I don 't see how you don 't see the Godhead in the Scripture. Jesus is standing because He was ready to come back if they would have received his message as a nation. That 's what He said would happen. Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Mark 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. They rejected the message and God went to the Gentiles through the apostle Paul. The Gospel for today is found in 1 Cor 15:1-4 and no water baptism or tongues are mentioned. Acts 2:38 is cursed for today Gal 1:8-9. Why? It 's not for us today.
  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Help us Holy Father God to obey Christ, the Word! We will be judged by what we did with His words!
  • Stephen hooper on Acts 2:38 - 10 years ago
The reason people do not like Acts 2:38,is it donot agree with the doctrine of the Trinity. There is no record of water baptism in the titles or trinity in the word of God.After Jesus rose from the dead,he spoke to the Apostles for forty days,he told them to baptize in the father, and the son,and the holy ghost. The apostles went forth and baptized in the name of jesus.Either jesus is the name of the father, and of the son,and of the holy ghost,or the apostles did not obey what jesus commanded them to do.I believe the apostles were right, they were guided by the holy spirit.I thank God for this truth.God bless

ACTS CHAPTER 2 1 16 15 In this chapter Apostle Peter was the spokesman to the 12 Tribes of Israel, for what they done to our Lord Jesus. In ACTS 9:15-16 Apostle Paul was saved and a chosen vessel. As also written in 1 TIMOTHY 1:15 For it is better in 2 TIMOTHY 2:15. Praise the Lord Jesus. A-men.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
The sabbath was for Israel because they require a sign 1 Cor 1:22. Moreover also I gave them my SABBATHS to be a SIGN between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. Ez 20:12. And madest known unto them they holy SABBATH, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by thy hand of Moses thy servant: Neh 9:14. If you keep one point of the law you have to keep it all, James 2:10. Do you work on the Sabbath? Death then see Ex 35:2. Do you start your car on the Sabbath? That 's starting a fire on the Sabbath. Death for you then Ex 35:3. Thank the Lord for dying on the cross for our sins. He kept the whole because we couldn't do it. Trust Him not yourself. Wonder why Paul the apostle to the Gentiles Rom 11:13, left out the Sabbath in Romans 13:9. Verse 8 says :for he that love another has fulfilled the law. Whaaaaat? Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God and every one that love is born of God, and known God.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
They that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do the other scriptures, unto their own destruction 2 Peter 3:16. Desiring to be teachers of the law understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe DAYS, and months, and times, and years. Gal 4:9-10. Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an HOLYDAY, or of the new moon, or of THE SABBATH DAYS: Col 2:16.
  • RNM ACTS 2-----14 on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Was the Messiah LYING to the prisoner on the cross next to him, "HE WASNT BAPTISED ".... And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom...... And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise Luke 23:39-43....Baptism is not what saves a person it is the GRACE OF GOD!! The baptism is an outward testimony of salvation, and Obedience, and also sincere Obedience to GOD requires us to observe all ten Commandments of GOD. That includes the 7th day Sabbath, despite the world view. AMEN!!!
  • RNM ACTS 2-----14 on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
God is a God of Love, mercy, forgiveness, and Grace, and the principles of Salvation are simple and sweet, and all encompassing, but there is one thing He requires in return and its no different than any human parent, that 's OBEDIENCE, why is it you don 't think God is not worthy of it. This is where we cross the line of true Salvation and FALSE SALVATION! OBEDIENCE. The vast majority of people in the world push aside the Commandments of God saying they were done away with, nailed to the cross, especially the 4th commandment, that commands us to keep the 7th day holy, there has been a rebellion over this commandment since it was first given to the Israelite 's, and the rebellion will continue to go on until the Messiah comes in the clouds of Glory. Which could be any time now! Some of you have got it in your head that the Sabbath has been changed but that is a deception of Satan through his organized false church system. You have got to before its to late study Gods word to find the truth about it. GOD does not change, He has not changed the Sabbath day from the 7th day to the 1st day, Satan has done that, So either give your allegiance to GOD or Satan, that 's the choice. The Lord warns those that follow after the commandments of man which is what the sunday observance is. AMEN!!
  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Yes Justin, when we receive the Holy Ghost after our water baptism, He guides us into all truth. When we read God 's word and speak the Bible 's truths we are really blessed by God. I thank God for His gift of the Holy Spirit! Isn 't it awesome to see the Holy Spirit work in hearts ready to receive God 's Holy Word, save our souls and make us wise! Hallelujah!
  • Justin malunga on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
this is really the spirit of God at work and we always ask God to baptise us with his holy Ghost so that we ministers speak only the truth.

  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Jimmy, yes, if only people would study the Bibles and have a stronger prayer life, many mountains, obstacles could be moved. We are so fortunate to have God 's Holy Word and believe and live God 's word being the hands and feet of Jesus as we go. The Holy Spirit is with us as we trust and obey Jesus 'word.Hallelujah!
  • Dwwayne on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
The holy ghost power is right any how, when God get ready we got to move
  • JIMMY on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
WHAT SOME WONDERFUL WORDS OF GOD CAN YOU IMAGINE TRREE THOUSAND SOULS BEING SAVED AT ONE TIME. IF WE AS GODS CHILDERN WOULD OBEY THE HOLY GHOST WHAT A CHANGE WOULD HAPPEN IN AMERICA
  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
The entire Bible is about the grace of God and love brought down to man. The Great Commission of Christ still stands today, so people deciding to follow Christ must first believe in all He is about and what He can do for them. Some followers of Christ believe you are saved before baptism some after. Baptism is still required today. After baptism, a believer is added to the church, kingdom. Colossians 1:13-14 Colossians 2:9-14. I love Jesus, our kinsman Redeemer, who redeemed us when no one else could. God bless you Jacob.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Around the circle reasoning merry go round we go. Tongues are for a sign 1 Cor 14:22 and Jews require a sign 1Cor 1:22. The Jews in Acts 2 are getting the gospel of the Kingdom preached to them, not the gospel of the Grace of God. The second coming is in view here. Joel 2 was not completely fulfilled. Notice especially that the events of verse 19 and 20 never happend. The signs are there to confirm the word Mark 16:20 because the New Testament wasn 't written yet. No one is saved like Acts 2:38 again. In ch 8 hands are laid. In Acts 10 no baptism required. Acts is a transitional book from the law to pure grace. Peter starts getting straight on his doctrine in Chapter 10 then by Chapter 15 he is convinced that it is by grace through faith. No works Eph 2:8thru9. Rightly divide. Who is the verse talking to? All Scripture is for you but not all is TO you doctrinally. Jesus is always the same, yes. But He certainly deals with men differently in different time periods. You can eat pork today but under the law you couldn 't. Baptism was a part of salvation under the gospel of the Kingdom but not under grace. Acts 2:38 is condemned under the church age Gal 1:8-9.

Hello Joni G.: Please read my answer I gave to Robert and James under Acts 10 and remember God looks at the heart.
  • Word on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Joni G Tongues when spoken can be understood by all that hears the Holy Spirit speaking through them. Every one no matter what country they come from knows what that person is saying because it 's God doing the talking. It happened once as an example so we will know and listen for when it happens again in the near future when the election are delivered up to the one world system churches of Antichrist. People have done it to make it appear that they are speaking in tongues to have others believe that they are close to God or they are in an emotional high but if you can 't understand it well it 's just making a bunch of noises.
  • Joni G on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
God has the last word. I have spoken what I perceive and know I am saved. Hallelujah! We will agree to disagree. I know what the Bible says. You say you know what the Bible says. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth. May God be glorified in all our lives.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
Hello Joni G.: I am glad that God brought you back from near suicide. If you have the correct baptism then I am happy for you. However, your experience is not yet complete. You need the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the spirit of God gives you utterance. Paul, 1 Corinthians 14: 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and FORBID not to speak with tongues. These tongues he is referring to is the evidence that a person has when they are filled with the Holy Ghost. The word covet means to want ardently esp. something that another person has . If I can say it like this, Paul was saying to us and the Corinthian church that we should want this gift and evidence of speaking in tongues. The Holy Ghost experience did not just end in the 1st Century. What about Azusa Street experience in the 20th century? I have experienced this myself. I speak in other tongues as the spirit of God gives utterance.

A godly grandmother I had became a widow at age 56. She was faithful to the Lord until she died. Completely selfless. She was still working taking care of the elderly at age 85. She loved the book of Acts also. She prayed without ceasing. Believed we are saved by the blood of Christ. By grace are we saved through faith. She believed we were made new creatures in Christ and made to do good works for his glory. Amen. She believed she was saved before she was baptized. I was raised that way but was later taught baptism is like a final leg of a journey to get on the right path being under the water is where you come in contact with the blood. When you come out of the water, you are a new creature. We know there is life in the blood and Jesus was the perfect Lamb of God. Christ 's death on the cross is what made a way for us to be in Heaven someday. I love 1 John 5. God will judge all of us and loves us so much. He wants us to understand His Word. We can ask God believing and He will guide us into all understanding!
