This subject has been hotly contested and I just had a member of my small group take that stance this week. The fact that God is said to put "eternity" in men's hearts surely shows that there is a concept of it once we are at a certain age. ( Ecclesiastes 3:11). We also have Stephen who right before he died saw Christ standing on His throne; then he "fell asleep." Acts 7:60. We have the great "cloud of witnesses" of Hebrews 11; those under the throne who have been martyred ( Rev. 6:9-11); David's commentary about his son dying ( 2 Sam. 12:23) where he says that his son can't come to him but he shall go to see him (after death); the appearance of Moses and Elijah (although Elijah was translated) at the transfiguration; and verses about Sheol. Jesus has the parable about Lazarus and the rich man ( Luke 16:19-31) about the fate of O.T. people in both sections of Sheol; and the captivity being made captive ( Eph. 4:8 also prophesied in Psalm 68:18; Jesus promising the thief on the cross that today he would be in paradise ( Luke 23:43); and that would be followed by many saints coming out of their graves after the Resurrection ( Matthew 27:52-53). We also have Hebrews 9:27 which says man is destined to die once; then face the judgment.

There are many other confirming verses. We must keep in mind that when the word "qeber" is used defining the grave; and a person ceasing to exist it is the body. Sheol; however is the land of the dead. We must also keep in mind that the spirits of just men made perfect ( Heb. 12:23) would start with Christ the first of the firstfruits; so to speak. God is not the God of the dead but the living ( Luke 20:38). John 8:56 says that Abraham longed to see the day HE SAW IT AND REJOICED. We have Paul's vision of things unspeakable whether in the flesh or not he didn't know ( 2 Cor. 12:2). Finally; John's vision in Revelation literally saw the future.

The biggest issue is WHY people think soul sleep exists. It concerns me.

Hello Jernej. I was sad to read of your problem with your job & your parents. This is a matter for you to decide on as you have to stay true to your beliefs & convictions.

For me, as a Christian under the New Testament pattern, I don't believe that the Sabbath given to Israel to keep, is binding on believers in Christ today. You're correct that Sabbath is Saturday (7th day), a day of compulsory rest given to Israel. If I were a Jew wanting to follow the Ten Commandments to the letter to be right with God, then to keep the Sabbath holy would be a must for me. But I am in Christ, Who has freed me (& to all who call upon His Name) from the bindings of the old Law which only brought condemnation & death: Romans 8:1-4. Christ fulfilled the Law perfectly by His Sacrifice, putting aside the Law that killed, & giving us His Spirit Who gives us new life.

For me, I now seek to obey the Holy Spirit in every area of my life, desiring to obey ALL the Commandments of God as He requires of me; & these Commandments are much much more than Ten. So now my 'Rest' is not on any particular day - my 'Rest' is in Jesus Christ (i.e. I have peace/rest in my heart every day of the week). A rest day from doing hard work is important for all people so that our bodies & minds can relax & focus on other things, but to be forced to keep Saturday as a holy day, when it doesn't apply to the Christian (or, gentiles), only puts you back under the old Law - a Law which was never given to us nor applies to us.

Also see Hebrews 4:1-11: a physical rest for Israel from their bondage & wanderings (as written in Joshua), & though this has nothing to do with Sabbath rest, it shows that there is complete rest in Jesus - living under Grace & not by works of the Law (verse 10).

I know some Christians believe in keeping the Sabbath, so if you still want to do so, then it's a matter between you & the Lord, & you will have to decide which one to follow. You will need to trust God to get you the right job.

Let's not play with words .The Scriptures are God's oral words written down on paper. It's the same thing.

I just wanted to reply, the locust didn't have power to kill. Revelation 9:3-6,10, it appears to give them time to repent from evil. Revelation 9:20,21, 2Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but all should come to repentance." 2Peter 3:9-14,

    Dear Marie

Let me completely disagree to the other comments made.

In 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 it clearly states that if someone divorces (only for reasons allowed by God) he/she should remain unmarried or get back with the husband/wife. God's purpose is to keep families together not split them apart. Also the verse 15 that some christians claim that can be used to divorce (if it is explained the way they explain it) it condradicts Matthew

5:31-32 that says divorce is only allowed for reasons of adultery. Also read the next to 15 verse (verse 16) which says that God advices you to try and get along with your husband..So as i read it you cannot date again. In verse 39 it clearly says that for God you are bound with your husband as long as he lives (no matter if he is a believer or not) , if he dies then you are allowed to remarry.

So my personal advice is pray to God and forgive your husband (don't forget that if we don't forgive other people's sins to us neither God will forgive us. Matthew 6:14-15) and make effords to get back together. Pray that God works his heart and put faith in it and free him from his addictions. It's the hard way but it's the right way too, and God will bless you.

Never forget that God's purpose is to unite families in Christ not split them apart.

Now if he has been unfaithful to you yes you can divorce him, but still you have to be unmarried. If he is violent to you because of his addictions you can keep apart untill he is changed, if he changes, and keep praying but still divorce is not permitted.

Since you've directed your question to "the Body" in belief I'm a part of that.

I understand it simply as when I have been near-death I have cried out "let me live" followed with any repentance words, asking for forgiveness, understanding GOD's "Judgement " GOD's correction can help us.

Note also this Psalms might have been written by King David, 2Samuel 12:13 , 2Samuel 11, & 12, may be relevant to understanding, what you're looking for

    Hey Raymond,

We see this in Matthew 17:1-9 Mark 9:2-10 and Luke 9:28-36, some may believe Moses and Elijah were in heaven and came and appeared, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up to the mountain, He was transfigured before them and Moses and Elijah appeared talking to Jesus.

If we take note of what Matthew writes, "And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. 9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead"

It was a vision and a confirmation from God to these three that Jesus is the Son of God and the Law and Prophets will be fulfilled with the death and resurrection of Jesus. Mark 9:10 another place that shows things were hidden from the apostles until the Holy Spirit brought remembrance to them of what things Jesus had told them, John 14:26.

One other thing, Jesus is the Firstfruits of them that slept, 1 Corinthians 15:20. Jesus was the first to be raised from death Acts 2:24. No one has ascended to heaven, John 3:13 and no one will overcome death until Jesus returns on the day of redemption, Ephesians 4:30.

In my understanding of scripture to us today, Moses and Elijah are awaiting the resurrection, with no knowledge or time in death, to them, it has already come.

    God bless,

    RLW

I've had several close to death experiences. The 1st I recall clearly was about 5 or 6 yrs old. I was being held by gentle being, clothed in white & no pain, back to unbearable pain & suffering. I heard myself speak as an adult outside of the situation. That may have been the closest I've ever been to Heaven itself, the place. 2nd time I was electrically shocked while in water, I saw a black hand cover the sky, enormous, I could only see light through the bend of two fingers & only a portion, it was so huge. 3rd & 4th time I was young adult, it was all black around, I could feel darkness & closeness to judgement. I begged for another chance. 5th time I could hear & see the EMTs I had a different view. I was at peace not struggling, no pain. Then as they put the heart zapper thing on 3rd time I think it was. I felt difficult pain again, coldness, struggle. Luke 23:43, Luke 16:15-31, Luke 20:35-38, Psalms 91:11, Matthew 4:11, Matthew 13:39,41,49, Luke 4:10, 2Thessalonians 1:6-12, 1Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1, Psalms 97:2, * Hebrews 2:14,15, Genesis 5:24, 2Kings 2, Matthew 17:1-5, if GOD has allowed Ezekiel, John & others in the Scriptures to see Heaven then I cannot argue they did or not. * Acts 7:55, Jeremiah 52, Revelation 7, Isaiah 6:1, Ezekiel 1, Ezekiel 10,

Matthew 24:3-51, Matthew 25:31-46, we will all give account so may our Words be faithful.

    Hi Suze,

I am home now. Surgery went well. I have a big bandage and surgery boot on my foot so I can bear a little weight on it, which is helpful. I have a knee scooter (borrowed) to get me across the room, etc. My hubby is here and helping me. So, I am in good hands.

    Thank you for your prayers.

    Hello Ann.

El Elyon is Hebrew for God Most High. An awesome name that sets the true God above any other in heaven or earth or hell. He is Most High because He is the only One that deserves our praises and is alone as deity.

I agree with GiGi. I believe when Elijah was caught up in the whirlwind he was set back down in short order on the street in Jerusalem in the middle of the 7-year tribulation that is still in our future.
