2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
God bless,

Jesus told his followers, "And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black" ( Matthew 5:36).
Jesus probably had a beard and short curly hair with long sideburns or "payot." Jesus followed the law in Leviticus 19:27 which said, "You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard." Even today, Orthodox Jewish men grow long hair on the sides of their heads.
Shorter hair was considered the norm for Jewish men and for Romans. Paul explains to early Christians in Corinth, "Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 1 Corinthians 11:14-15; Numbers 6:1-8
For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed." ( Isaiah 53: 2-3, 5)

Read scripture and make use of commentaries by Christian teachers and scholars from the past.
[Google. 1 John 1:9, commentary or meaning or teaching]
You will then understand the scripture.
I get "pulled over to the curb" often. Don't take it personally. See what you can learn and then ask the Holy Spirit to make it plain and clear. He is #one Teacher.
Some folks have favorite passages to expound on. I kind of like to pick up fresh MANNA off the ground every day. Not to complain if it's not baby back ribs.
When you sit at Jesus's Table, he is not going to tell you, you can't eat meat yet. Babies drink milk, but they grab everything as a rule. This is normal. Be sensitive to The Holy Spirits leading. Talk to Him. No one's walk with the Lord is the same. He is yours, and you are his child. Let the relationship bloom without fear. If you need a hug or forgiveness for something__reach out for it. Take it.
If I do something out of line, I'm telling you, I get pulled back by the neck of my tshirt and told to repent and put things right.
I'm not like Peter or Paul. I'm more like John. I like caves because I sing like a frog. It's just me. Solitary. I love Jesus more than my own life.
Take time outs to go to the cave, the mountaintop, or sit under a bush and be fed by the ravens. You don't have to please anyone except Jesus. What you learn, shout from the rooftops.
God inhabits the praise and worship of those who love Him, and His Word. Enter in. You were chosen.
Rather than throwing out everything, because I have admitted my own fallability, I want to lay it out as three parallels.
The like figure whereunto
(Salvation of a chosen few from a wicked generation by water)
wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,)
(God's patience during preparations made by a chosen one)
when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing,
by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God;
(Vindication)
By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient,
angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
Additionally, Peter is using a figure and all figures (or types and antitypes) are limited. So I believe he is intentionally limiting himself to parallels he sees between the type and the antitype, rather than expounding his full views on all that Christ has done for us. Turning this passage into the one and only proof text for any theory of baptism or salvation that is not supported elsewhere in the New Testament or that nullifies other passages that clearly were written to deal with these topics more fully should not be taken as his intention. That goes for all typology.
My understanding is, this is the deception of deceptions and will cause the great falling away, 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Part of this deception is that the great tribulation and the wrath of God are taught as being the same thing. We must understand the wrath of God comes after the second coming of Jesus not before. Matthew 24:29-31 Mark 13:24-27.
It developed in the 17th Century, and it quickly led to an understanding that the rapture of the church would be an event separate from and before the second coming of Christ. It was made popular by John Darby, and he is thought by many to be the originator but not. C.I. Scofield, with the study bible with footnotes, helped promote this doctrine of man. It started as pre-tribulation and still mostly believed in.
We as humans sometimes look for the easy way out, and many preachers oblige to fill the money plate that makes merchandise of people, 2 Peter 2:3. Scripture does not say we will be spared tribulation it says the opposite, Acts 14:22 John 16:33. It is debated that although all Christians go through some tribulation, there is yet a great tribulation to come those true believers will not have to undergo. So, who are these, Revelation 7:13-14 Revelation 20:4
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
The mark and saving our physical life is the temptation, that so many don't believe they will be here to face, that is the great deception. Keep from does not mean we will be spared from being killed it means to spiritually guard (watch), keep intact, Hebrews 3:6. The believers in Jesus in the past were not spared being beheaded, burnt on a stake, fed to the lions, why should we.
God bless,

These words are quick and powerful, giving us a clear view of what will proceed those who are living (in or for the moment), out of the word!
I asked one which bible He used ,and He said none. What church do you belong to, His reply, Catholic!
So I ask myself why, as I said good day to Him, as I began to contemplate why the Catholic church may request such a thing as this? ( the days of bibles even in the protestant church are gone).
While thinking on these things I see the apostles as they struggle teaching and preaching the word. Even though they have received it directly from Christ, there is division and misunderstanding between one another, while we know Jesus taught us to love one another, yet there is division among us.
Education, ability to listen, learning can definitely be a road block, and yet I am reminded of those who were blind, mute, unable to walk too the synagogue , who called out His name, and Christ healed them!
He gave them the sight they needed to see Him. He gave them the hearing thy needed to hear Him! How wonderful are His ways toward all who call on Him!
The authority given to the church are the keys given by God. The church has the Devine authority to use the keys according the Holy Spirit directed by God Himself.
In the ever changing world, even with the learned history, never before could we learn from It more, this the Bride of Christ "the church".
With the knowledge of His will, He has given each one of us liberty and responsibility to rightly divide His words, we all have a place who believe the gospel. I have sinned, I have said wrong words out of haste, not teaching as I should! But this I know, I have been forgiven for Christs sake!
The church is susceptible, It too can fall into sin! It is not infallible. This is why we need to read the word!
Both God and Job reference Arcturus as an example of the Lord's power and infinite wisdom. It is possible that "the sons," connected to the constellation in Job 38:32, is in reference to the three stars found in the bear's "tail" (the three brightest stars in the Big Dipper's handle seen below).
God bless you all
I decided to do an exposition of 1 Peter 3:19-20 under the 1 Peter 3 discussions to give my view of the full set of parallels Peter is making in what I believe is the chiastic (inverted parallel) structure of these four verses that all hinge on the phase "The like figure whereupon". If you want to discuss this further please do it there. I appreciate your thoughts on the passage, and critiques of what I've said here and would value your response to that post.
The controversy I stirred up by my introduction of this passage and my admittedly casual and free use of topology and short-hand summary terms that are far more objectionable to many than I had any idea about in a quickly drafted and not fully thought through series of posts has taken this thread side ways. Hopefully my new post under 1 Peter 3 takes the critiques offered here into account and sticks to what the passage actually says, at least in my view, much better.
Pray for my daughters family that God will all of there financial needs. She wants a house. No weapon formed against them shall prosper.
If that's the case, then the Greek words that apply to those verses are 'katharizo' (meaning, to cleanse, or remove), and 'agathos' (meaning, good, pleasant, peaceful); different words - different applications. I fully agree that only the Blood of Jesus can cleanse & remove our sins & guilt completely, as that Blood presents before God continually to be applied to all who come to Him via the Cross; & yes, even make our consciences clear from old 'dead works', believing those Truths & the God Who truly does all that He says.
However in 1 Peter 3:21, the matter is about the other aspect of salvation, i.e. as Noah & family were saved by the flood water bearing them up in the Ark, so to water in baptism also saves - not for outward cleansing (of the flesh), but of cleansing our conscience in a visible act of identification with Jesus in His death, burial, & resurrection. And clearly Peter never implies that water baptism is needed for salvation, for baptism cannot save, only repentance & faith in Christ's finished Work can. But water baptism provides the new believer, through a physical act, a conscience (or, you can read it as 'a mind') that is satisfied, contented, at peace that all that has happened inwardly, is enacted outwardly as a testimony to self & others. When Satan comes knocking at our door, as he always does to refute our faith & new life in Jesus, that physical act of identification with Christ will be sufficient proof to hit him between the eyes - our testimony: Jesus died for me - I'm now identified completely with my Saviour.
So both passages of Scripture are different in application: one, the purging of sin-wrecked consciences; & the other, giving of peace & assurance to revived, renewed consciences.
I would only say that in this context Peter is not focused primarily on the baptism of a single individual, but is viewing baptism as a distinguishing characteristic of the household of believers being saved by this critical component of the great commission. All of the other parallels, in my view, call us to look beyond just ourselves and our individual experiences of santification, God's patience, and vindication. These are things all of those who make up God's true church must share in and continue until the great commission is fulfilled. That is why the great commission and Christ's presence with those that carry it out is promised to last even until the end of the age.
I believe Peter's message is that any sufferings we experience and endure that are in service of Christ and that God permits are carried out in service of the great commission as well. When we are able to see that the sufferings you, I or any of our brothers and sisters endure in this manner continue to unite us to Christ and God's larger plan for this age, the Holy Spirit can use that as a real source of encouragement.
