I showed this verse to a PHD, who had been preaching longer than I have been alive. 1 Timothy 3:2-3 "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;" I ask him what "not given to wine" meant? His answer was: "A Pastor is not aloud to have any wine ". Then I ask him why a deacon could have a little wine (not given to much wine) And his answer was: "Well, that is grape juice!" Then I said, if that is true, a Pastor can't take Communion, right!. His response was like he had been hit with 220 volts of electric. 1 Timothy 3:8 "Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;"
You stated, "I believe in God and Jesus"
That is commendable but, ironically, look at what James tells us:
"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." Jas 2:19
"and try to live right."
And that is also something you ought to do but look at what Paul tells us:
"For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." Rom 4:3-5
We are ALL sinners:
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Rom 3:23
We are ALL under God's condemnation unless we believe ON/IN Jesus:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth IN HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth ON HIM is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed IN the name of the only begotten Son of God."Joh 3:16-18
So what's the difference between believing THAT there is a God or believing IN God? One is just acknowledging that there is a God. Believing IN God is putting your trust in God. The Scripture tells us that God love us so much that He, God The Father, sent His Son, Jesus, God in the flesh, to earth in order to die in our place, to take the punishment for our sins.
"For He (God) hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God IN Him." 2Co 5:21
You really ought to find a good church that teaches The Bible. We need to assemble with other believers. None of us are perfect. You're not and I'm not. So don't swallow the lie that there are hypocrites at church, so you shouldn't go!
God is everywhere at all times so why are folks questioning ... Today in Paradise?
Nothing is to hard and nothing is impossible with God. Stop limiting God. The Trinity has no limits like mankind do
from the beginning
2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 "But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." Other verses say, "foundation of the world,"
Ephesians 1:4 "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:" But we were not "in him" until we received him. So, how did God call you by Paul's Gospel before the foundation of the world? Pete says it was "Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied." 1 Peter 1:2. elect, and chosen have the same meaning. So, God looked forward in time, and saw all those gentiles who would believe Paul's Gospel, and all the Jews who would believe John's Gospel: John 20:31 "But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." and Paul's Gospel for the Gentiles. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" And those are the ones that was Chose before the foundation of the world. Do you see the difference in these two Gospels? Paul's Gospel is for the Gentiles during the Age of Grace, often called the Church age. and John's Gospel in for the Jews before the age of Grace, and the Great Tribulation after the age of Grace. And Believing is the way you receive Jesus as the Christ, the son of God, for the Jews. And believing Paul's Gospel is the way yo
The word of God was written for a child to understand.
Albeit, that some books, chapter, verses are written with a heavenly meaning...parable...prophesy, that are hidden until revealed in Gods time.
Example:
If I would write a chapter on any subject...many people whom read it may have different interpretations especially if it were translated in different languages.
There are many verses in the bible that are confusing to me (I read the bible translated to the KJV)...but I must only look to the bible for the answers or to hear or see the blessing of God.
"Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God." 1Pe 1:20-21
Charles,
Thank you for your response. I do agree with you that Jesus' mission through most of His ministry was to the Jewish nation and not to the Gentiles. But the Nation rejected Him although many individual Jews believed. The very first converts on The Day of Pentecost were Jews from all over the world, who went back to their homelands with The Gospel. Peter's message had the death, burial and resurrection, but Peter was thinking of the revival of the Jewish nation. They even asked Jesus just before The Ascension, about that. Peter and those who were with them were astounded that Gentiles, a Roman soldier at that, could receive The Holy Spirit. They were not expecting that!
Paul met the "pillars" of the church and they compared his teaching with theirs and concluded that they had nothing to add to Paul's preaching. Their Gospel was Paul's Gospel: The Gospel.
I Cor 15:3-7 was a creed that Paul "received" from Peter & James most likely when he visited them 3 years after his conversion: a creed that originated within months of The Resurrection.
Oddly enough, the Apostle to the Gentiles writes Romans 9-11.
This verse reminds me, life here on earth is but one day at a time. Picking up my own cross, the truth of suffering and seasons of painful deaths of my old ways, as a reminder that the Kingdom of God awaits me and I have the responsibility of carrying my cross like a picket sign to others... to say if you want what I have, here is the way - the only way. The difficulties of earthly life come and go, but each day, as I renew my faith (pick up my cross) I find myself better able to understand what Jesus meant by not having to wait to die, to see heaven here on earth. Luke 9:23-27
Thank you , Faye
much in so little.
Romans 11:25-27: "For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins." And verse 26 cross references to Isaiah 59:20,21.
Zechariah 12:10: "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."
