I've always wondered why I never heard anyone else mention this:

All, including the Bible itself, say that Jesus was a direct descendant of David; however, Joseph was the direct descendant of David and Jesus was and is the Son of God (due to the Holy Spirit).

Therefore, one would have to consider Joseph to be but the stepfather of Jesus. And that, of course, would mean that Jesus was not the direct descendant of David.

I love my Jesus, and I love my Bibles. But something is not correct, here.

For anyone who believes that picture of family is a graven image; if and when you are asked to blow down to a graven image; then you would see what a graven image really is; and it would not be just pictures of your family. Pictures are not images. That just confuses people so that they will not know when they need to know.

I would say that we have many images in our minds and the main one would be that of family and God and in fact God should be the main one for many reasons. We are or were in the image of God when God created Adam as Adam was without sin, and he talked and walked with God; but when he sinned; he then had the power to know good and to know evil; and decide what to pick and do and what to do to redeem himself; it talks about the tree of life; Jesus died for our sins and through Him, we are forgiven and I would say we must continue to follow him to be redeemed

Stephanie, I'll start this off with some thoughts. I would say that using Hypnosis is a sin even though not specifically mentioned in the Bible. Through it, a believer leaves himself open to more problems leading to sin, being no longer subject to clear, rational thinking & obliged to obey whatever is suggested.

Hypnosis, as you know, is a science to place a person's mind into a state of subjugation, whether done by another or oneself. It effectively alters the critical thinking of a (vulnerable & willing) person to one of obedience regardless of the wishes of that person. It seems to have some benefit in helping those with lingering medical problems. However, the question is, as Christians are we permitted to let our normal critical/decision making minds become open to external commands that would otherwise be rejected by us? Or, in computer terminology, should we allow a downloaded file not be subject to a firewall and an anti-virus examination?

Scriptures that come to mind: Phil 4:7; 2 Tim 1:7; 1 Pet 1:13, all speak about having sound, Christ-honouring minds that engage in a mental/spiritual warfare to keep them under subjection from outside forces. In fact 2 Cor 4:4 says "the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not". We can get the sense here, that their minds were veiled, or even affected/hypnotized, so that they can't ever perceive that they're believing a lie. I realize that I'm adding 'hypnosis' here, but I can see how this can be applied to the response of those so affected.

So, it comes down to: Who has control over our minds/our lives? The Bible says that we must at all times be in control over it, even to the avoiding of substances that would diminish that control or even allowing external forces (people or demons) to gain control over us. When we use the Holy Spirit's Power in our lives, then we should never allow another to take it over nor allow hypnosis to become a play thing as is often done these days.

Andres, I had to do some researching for your question as the answer cannot be found from Scripture. So trying to make a long research paper simple, this is what I've found & hope it is of some use to you:

Both in Job 9:9 & Amos 5:8, mention is made of those star constellations. So the problem we have is: how are these stars with these names, known by these OT people? The answer is apparently that they hadn't called them by these names in the original language, Hebrew, but those original words were also known differently in Aramaic/Syriac & these are what we are seeing here.

So in Hebrew, Orion was known as 'Kesil', which means 'foolish' because they viewed this constellation as a picture of 'a tall & strong man chained for his folly'. For Pleiades (the view of Seven Stars), was originally known as 'Kimah'. Then in Syriac, it was referred to as Pleiades.

Therefore, with Amos, as a Prophet of God, his writings reflected what was given to him to declare to Israel. And this included these stars which he may not have been entirely familiar with, but declared them (Kesil & Kimah) which have since been translated in the Bible to be the Orion & Pleiades. With Job, we're unsure of his knowledge about these stars, whether from Divine inspiration or from others who may have already named them. So a bit of uncertainty here.

You will enjoy reading Job. Near the end God reveals many scientific things. If your Bible has the center column; the letters and numbers point you to other scriptures or prophesies sometimes. It's fascinating reading.

One does not have to be baptized with water to enter the Kingdom of God. Salvation is a free gift from God, no strings attached. Born of water is amniotic fluid. All earthly life begins in water. God's Word refers to both the physical and the spiritual throughout beginning with Genesis 2:7. What if you died prior to your day of baptism. And, Christians no longer wait 40 days to receive The Holy Ghost. When one accepts Christ, right then and right there, the Holy Ghost begins to dwell within you.

All physical life begins in water. It has nothing to do with God's Word nor Baptism. Think of all the denominations that sprinkle versus fully immerse. Everlasting Life comes to us by way of being born again in Spirit.

The point that most forget is that the coming horror upon the Earth is not A Tribulation, but THE GREAT Tribulation. There is a difference: Jn 16:33 tells us that in the world you will have tribulation, which must include our daily troubles whether small or big, as well as those who are burned at the stake for Jesus' sake. But the Great Tribulation is only attributed to God's Wrath & Judgement upon sinful mankind.

And God's Wrath has been seen in the past, in The Flood, at Sodom & Gomorrah, in God's dealings with idolatrous Israel. We have not seen His Full Wrath yet post Calvary, even though some claim that our natural devastating phenomena, including viruses, or the Holocaust are examples. The next time God moves in this way, will be at the time of the End of this age, & will be with Fire & not Flood ( 2 Pet 3:5-7).

So, can we presume that God will then have to judge His people, the Church, Christ's Bride, a second time for their sinful nature & ways? Or, will He take out (rapture) His Church (having already been judged & redeemed), so that His Wrath will be seen & felt by all unbelievers to the fulfilment of prophecy?

Patricia, "the great fish" that God prepared to swallow up & accommodate Jonah would most likely be a mammal (like a whale, having no gills but lungs to breathe). So it is conjecture on my part, to think that whenever this fish came up for air, we have Jonah also taking in the oxygen simultaneously. Now, since a whale doesn't come up for air that often, one would think that there might have been sufficient oxygen in the fish's body to keep Jonah alive until the next inhalation.

And yes, God had a great part in keeping his rebellious prophet alive in the fish, if for nothing more, than sustain him without food & water & to comfort him in his extraordinary surroundings.

I wonder whether we can bank on Gen 15:18 & 17:8, where God covenants with Abram that his seed will get all the land from the Nile to the Euphrates & ALL the Land of Canaan (for an everlasting possession). What the world (United Nations in 1947) has done to Israel is despicable & will be severely judged for this wicked act. To give Israel a sliver of land to ease their tainted consciences does despite to God's Holy Word. God does not forget His Promises & we will see mighty things happen in that land. Now, if only Israel would acknowledge their Messiah & repent of what they had done to him, Israel would be in a whole different situation now & truly "a holy & peculiar people unto the Lord" ( Deut 14:2).
