Hi Frankie J. Getting to the fundamentals here: you quoted Luke 6:40 (the Greek is 'karkatizo', meaning 'made complete, prepared'). The context is not about being pure or perfectly free from sin "as his master", but the 'one who is fully trained or fully prepared for the work, can be the master/teacher'.

1 John 4:17: "Herein is our love made perfect" (Gk: teleioo = to be made complete); i.e. 'he who dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him' (v16): true love is made complete when we are truly abiding in God.

Romans 12:1: "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God". (Gk: hagios (holy): set apart for God, sacred). That is how we come before God presenting ourselves: holy by position - holy by purification. The apostle's earnest plea is that we come with clean hands & pure hearts. Sinless? Can never be - our sin nature is still with us, but we can come with all sin confessed & clear pure consciences.

To the rest of your comment with supporting Scriptures, it appears again that you equate the new life in Christ as being freed from sin. It is true that we have been cleansed & our spirits have been made new & in that sense absolutely perfect. But we still live in bodies of flesh, sin & corruption. If the new birth dealt with that matter of perfecting our bodies (the flesh), I would fully agree with you, but the Bible never teaches that & experience always shows that the spiritual battle over sin can never end but rages every moment of the day, some succumb to it, others find victory. But in the end, confession & correction restores fellowship & cleansing of the heart & conscience - it never makes one sinless. If you find disagreement here, then maybe you can outline what you consider as sin - for this point may well be where our misunderstanding lies. GBU.

Thanks Bro. Dan. We've been here before. So "why do so many Christians make such a big deal about following God's Commands." Can't answer for others, but I see that all of God's Commands (whether the Decalogue, or the myriad of other Laws & regulations), applied only to the Jews - for their instruction & performance. None of that applied to me as a Gentile. And none of those laws given to Israel are expected to be recognized by Gentiles. If Jesus didn't come & give His Life to redeem us to God, then as a Gentile hearing of such Laws that God required obedience, might place on me some conviction & responsibility to keep them so as to appease/please the God of Israel.

So the Decalogue, for example, was given to a specific people for a specific purpose. If I relied only on it to give me finite rules for obedience, then I would fail God. If the command said, "Thou shalt not kill" & I obeyed it & never murdered, then I could say that I had fully kept that commandment. And that is how Israel would have understood it. But Jesus then came on the scene & taught His disciples what 'murder' meant ( Matthew 5:21-24). So here we now have that connection between the old Law that only condemned & brought death ( Romans 7:4-6) & now the Deliverer, through His Sacrifice, Who has "delivered us from the lawthat we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter".

If one believes that the Decalogue is still binding, that's their choice. But my belief is that those in Christ (of Jew & Gentile) are far beyond the Decalogue & are now indwelt & led by the Spirit ( Romans 8:1-4), that "the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us". My reference can never be to the Decalogue, only to the Holy Spirit who interprets the whole Law, pertaining to life & godly living, helping me to obey & giving power to live it - which the Old Law could never do. I ask, 'why should I go to a system that could never give life, or even syncretize it with the Law of the Spirit'?

    Hello David.

I wasn't responding to your post. But I wanted to write a short article about what is called "covenant theology". So far on this site we have read a lot about dispensationalism but nothing about the opposite belief. So I tried to make a summary of that theory so that people who haven't heard of it get to know it.

Dispensationalism declares different dispensations to different people at different times. On the other hand the covenant theology considers a continuity in God's plan to save people. As you said Israel is not national Israel (it was never meant to be, even in the OT it was the remnant) but new or spiritual Israel. The Israel of God always intended to include the other nations but that was done at a programmed time. National Israel could never understand (and accept) that. As John the Baptist told them God could make descendants to Abraham from those stones. And He did that (figuratively). When they didn't accept Jesus, from the stones, the dead matter, the dead(the nations), He did create a new people for Him. He unified the two parts of His ,always intended, people, Jews and gentiles.

In short this is what the covenant theology says. I just hope I haven't produced any confusion, it is not easy for a non English speaking person to explain that theory. So as the ancient church believed the church is the inheritor of God's inheritance to His people. But God is not ungrateful to the Hebrews. He has a special place for them in His heart for their fathers. But His salvation is not altered for them, they haven't got any superiority or previlidge compared to us as far as salvation is considered. We also know from Paul's epistle to Romans that all Israel will be saved at the very end when they will realize that the Messiah they were always expecting will not be the one they consider to be. Him is going to be the antichrist actually. So under the circumstances at the end they will turn to Him they crucified. What a touching moment that will be.

    Dear Baker Cindy.

Welcome, and we are glad to have you here with us.

I can tell you a bit about the site, but there are others who are much more savvy than I am.

    1) You can click on KJV Standard to bring up a page where you can select a book, chapter and verse number for your own reading. On the bottom of each chapter there is a tab for commentary where you can read what commentators have written. There are several commentaries you can read for each chapter. Below the Commentary tab is a Chapter Discussion tab where you can read what other members have posted on the chapter. You can click on Add a Comment and submit your own comment on the chapter.

    2) I am not familiar with the mobile tab.

    3) The Discussion tab on the top bar of the main page will bring you to this discussion which shows all comments made on the site. You can click on Add a Comment tabe to post your own comments.

    4) I am not familiar with the more tab.

    5) At the bottom of the main page there are additional links to explore.

    6) Also at the bottom of the main page is a link where you can contact the administrators of this site.

    I hope this helps.

I hope others will add to what I have written here.

    Harmonizing Scripture with other Scripture.

When we take Ephesians 2:14-18, as confirmation that God is through with National Israel we need to examine that further.

    Ephesians 2:14-18 Establishes the Church.

    Ephesians 2:12

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

We see in this verse that the Gentiles were added to make up the body "Not Israel"

When the early Church started they were nearly All Jews.

The middle wall of partition was broken down for the Gentiles,

They were the strangers. Keep in mind these are the Messianic Jews. ( BOTH THE JEWS AND GENTILES SAVED BY ONE WAY, CHRIST. )

So what you see here "in regards to Salvation, there is NO Dispensation. "As always and forever" Christ is savior and the only way for all.

There is a dispensation in the believers view point in regards to time.

Israel in the OT looked forward to one who was coming.

Today Beleiving Jews and Gentiles looks back at one who has came.

So we have two groups here that forms the Church.

So we start with three Groups here. The Nation Israel divided up in two groups. "The believers and those who remained blinded. "

Also the believing Jews and the Gentiles.

In Romans chapters 9, 10, and 11 we see Paul deals with these same three groups.

You see two saved and forming the church.

You see one that has been broken off because of non-belief.

You see the same order of sequence as you do in Ephesians. The Gentiles added or "Grafted into the common wealth of Israel.

Romans 11:1-36 focus is on the broken off Group with the conclusion in vs 26. ( And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:)

    PLEASE READ ROMANS 11.

This is not talking about the Church, They're already mentioned throughout these 3 chapters as already saved.

    Gad bless.

Jesus did not honor or even acknowledge Sabbath day, in fact, he made it a point to preach on Sabbath day and teach in the synagogues. It is man that created the Sabbath day not any doctrine of God. Have God in your heart seven days a week, you'll do fine.

    Hi S Spencer,

    Part 1

Just to finish up on the Last Week. Sorry, this is so long but I hope you will have all the reasons for my understanding of this very important prophecy. I have learned much.

I know we differ on this and I believe we both respect each other as brothers and the truth is what matters. The word prince in vs 25 is the same as in vs. 26 it is the Hebrew word nagiyd or nagid meaning chief commander, leader, ruler, or prince, but never translated as king, but many times as the commander of a military.

Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks, 490 years are given for the things that are determined to be accomplished that is the prophecy. 1. To finish the transgression. 2 To make an end of sins. 3 to make reconciliation for iniquity. 4 to bring in everlasting righteousness. 5 To seal up vision and prophecy. 6 To anoint the most holy.

These 6 things were determined upon Daniel's people, the lost sheep of Israel, and the holy city, Jerusalem. Were these things accomplished when Jesus first came, or will they be accomplished after Jesus second coming? These six things are the purpose of the prophecy, Dan. 9:24.

My understanding Jesus accomplished this when He first came. The 70 weeks which is 490 years are given for these 6 things to be accomplished.

1 To finish the transgression. From "transgress," to pass over or beyond; to overpass, as any rule prescribed as the limit of duty; to break or violate, as a law, civil or moral; the act of transgressing; the violation of a law, rebellion. Isaiah 53:5,8 Isaiah 53:11 Hebrews 9:15-18.

Jesus with a perfect life gave up his body to death; he fulfilled the first covenant of law and redeeming of the transgressions under the first covenant of law. He became sin for us, and with his blood made the new covenant being the only mediator of the New Testament that we through faith in Jesus Christ receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Offered first to the house of Israel then offered to the rest of the world.

S Spencer on the last week.

    Part 2

2 To make an end of sins (Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law). The verb in the Hebrew text translated as "put an end to" can mean "to seal up". The covering of our sins was accomplished on the cross at Calvary. When he said IT IS FINISHED, he provided us with the garments (wedding garments) to cover our sins. Psalm 32:1-2 Matthew 1:21 John 1:29 Romans 8:3 1 Corinthians 15:3 Hebrews 10:8-11 1 John 3:5 Revelation 16:15.

Is there still sin today? Yes. Will there still be sin and death after Jesus's second coming? Yes. Even during the 1000 years, there will be sin and death until all is made new Rev. 21:1-4 but through Jesus, they are covered and sealed, Rev. 16:15

3 To make reconciliation for iniquity (Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement, iniquity is guilt, crookedness, perverseness, that which is not straight or upright, moral distortion, in the dark. Colossians 1:20-22 Isaiah 53:6 Isaiah 53:11 Ephesians 2:16 Titus 2:14 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.

The word reconcile means to bring back to a former state of harmony Jesus reconciled both Jew and Gentile unto God in one body by the cross and now through Jesus we both Jew and Gentile have access by one Spirit unto the Father no more strangers or foreigners but fellow citizens. Making reconciliation for iniquity concerns our involvement in the work of salvation.

4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. Everlasting, no end, righteousness, justice, mercy, loving-kindness, in conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will, fair and balanced. Isaiah 61:10-11 2 Corinthians 5:21 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 5:17-21 1 Peter 2:24.

S Spencer on the last week.

    Part 3.

Jesus by His blood entered once into the holy place not made by hands having obtained eternal redemption everlasting, never to fade, and in Jesus, we have everlasting righteousness and salvation, through faith, given by grace from God, by the blood of the Lamb freely offered for us. To look for everlasting righteousness to be brought in the future is to deny the work of Christ, which he claimed was finished. We have no righteousness apart from Jesus Christ.

5 To seal up vision and prophecy; seal up, affix a seal, a seal in biblical times as today, is used to guarantee security, or indicate ownership, fulfill a vision of God's communication with man, prophecy w-n-, the same word for prophet, the word of God given to us through a prophet. The greatest prediction, which runs through the whole Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus. Daniel 9:23 John 6:27 Mark 1:14-15 Acts 3:18 John 5:36-40 Matthew 11:11-15 Romans 3:21.

All through the New Testament, it shows the fulfillment of the prophets and the law; fulfilled on the cross at Calvary. Gabriel was sent to help Daniel understand the matter, and consider the vision.

6 To anoint the Most Holy. Anoint, the theological meaning of mashach to smear, anoint. The Most Holy qa-da-sm qo-des, most holy, most holy place, Set apart from the rest for a special function. This was done by Jesus after he ascended to heaven before the destruction of the temple made by man. It is the anointing of the holy of holies in the temple not made with hands. Hebrews 8:1-12 Hebrews 9:6-14

Jesus went in once and anointed the Holy of Holies not made with hands. Jesus anointed the Holy of Holies once and made it possible for man through him and the Holy Spirit to enter the most holy and God can dwell in us. When Jesus cried out and said it was finished and gave up the ghost, the veil of the temple rent in half.

    See Part 4
  • Ronald Whittemore - In Reply - 1 year ago
S Spencer on the last week.

    Part 4

The service in the temple made by hands was over as Jesus told the woman at the well, John 4:21-24. Soon in that generation, it would be physically gone and never be again. The animal sacrifices that never covered sin ended on the cross, the whole Levitical priesthood and sacrificial shadow service, Hebrews 7:11-13. Only the Messiah Himself could legitimately abolish once and forever the system of symbols that pointed forward to the atoning self-sacrifice of the spotless Lamb of God.

This was the cause of the sacrifices and oblations to cease in Dan 9:27. This unveils one of the most profound and decisive revelations of the Messiah's mission, the very goal, the things determined by the seventy-weeks prophecy, God's will, the work Jesus was sent to do John 5:36 John 17:54-6 the sixfold goal of Daniel 9:24.

In vs. 26 after 69 weeks the Messiah is cut off, which after means it is in the 70th week. The people of the prince that shall come are the judgment of God not in these 70 weeks. This connection between the coming of the Messiah and the destruction of the city is the crucial message of Daniel 9:26, 27. They had 490 years to be ready and accept their Messiah and the people of the prince that shall come is the outcome of Jerusalem's rejection of her Messiah.

Jesus related the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 to Israel's final refusal to accept Him as her Messiah, Matt. 21:33-44 Matt. 23:37-38; Luke 19:41-44. The abomination Jesus was referring to in Matt. 24:15 and Mark 13:14 was not to the future but to their near future when the Roman army would destroy Jerusalem and the Temple in their generation Luke 21:20-24.

    See Part 5
  • Ronald Whittemore - In Reply - 1 year ago
    S Spencer the last week.

    Part 5 and last

The Roman armies under General Titus placed their idolatrous ensigns as an "abomination" in Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. There is much more in history. what the leaders of Jerusalem did I will not say it here because none of it is recorded in the Bible. The prophecy is given in three phases one of seven weeks, a second of sixty-two weeks, and a third of one week. Nowhere does Gabriel imply a gap between any of these three phases.

The events in Verses 26 and 27 are joined together of the same event and cannot be taken to be in chronological order, the same as the events in Revelation are not in chronological order. The Messiah in vs. 26, who is cut off after 69 weeks is thehe in vs. 27 the one who confirms the covenant and in the middle of the week, His crucifixion is the cause of the sacrifices and oblations to cease.

Does any scripture confirm an event that happened in the middle of a 7-year week? The Gospel of John verifies the precise historical fulfillment of this prophecy in Christ's life; the time between His baptism and anointing and the cross was exactly three and one-half years. And Jesus through His apostles confirmed the last 3.5 years, that is recorded in history of Stephens death 3.5 years after Jesus crucifixion when the gospel went to the Gentiles.

I understand this is a lot but I hope this will be enough for you to see where I am coming from. It is not from a teaching or a group it is my understanding given to me of scriptures.

    God bless,

    RLW

Yes, I do honor and try to follow God's Sabbath Day. It is one of Gods Commandments. Please also notice God tells us specifically: To Remember to keep the Sabbath Day.

    Exodus 20:8

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy."

When God instructs us To Remember Something why would we want to forget this?

    Exodus 20:9

"Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:"

He instructs us to rest one day! Is one day too much to ask? I don't know why so many Christians make such a big deal about following Gods Commands.

Ryan was asking about fishing or golfing. Fishing can be considered relaxation, if he is not a commercial fisherman doing it for a living. His fishing could be a way to relax and unwind from his work week. He would also have the perfect time to pray, give thanks for the time to spend in a relaxing manner enjoying all that God created around while waiting for that next fish to bite.. Golfing could be considered the same, as a relaxing pastime, maybe giving God thanks for the opportunity to breath in some fresh air, get some healthy exercise for the body and so these activities would not be considered work, but a relaxing pastime.

God simply instructs us to refrain from our work for one day! Is one day too much to ask? I don't know why so many Christians make such a big deal about following Gods Commands.

You state it is a Jewish Sabbath and you don't follow it. Well Jesus is Jewish, do you follow Jesus? Jesus also asks you the following:

    John 14:15

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Remember, Christs followers are Jewish and Gentile, and we are all treated the same now, One Church, ONE GOD!

Amen, & I think these verses say it best.. John 3:17 For God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world: but that the world through Him might be saved. 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 12:31 Now is the judgement of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 12:47 And if any man hear my words & believe not, I judge him not; For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world (it's a choice). 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye (you) might have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. 17:14, I have given them the word, & the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 1 Corinthians 7:31 they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away. James 4:4 Ye adulterers & adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world, is the enemy of God. 1John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in Him. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes & the 'pride' of life, is NOT of the Father, but is of the world. 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God, overcome the world & this is the victory that overcome the world, even our faith. *next verse I have a Qs: does it mean that we don't have to believe in Christ walk on earth to be saved yet we must believe that He died for our sins to be saved? Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come*. which kinda goes with John 12:47 does it not? I've always heard & live by, "just because we are in the world doesn't mean we have to be of the world".! God bless 'Texsis'

Alex, I strongly disagree with what you have said to counter what I posted. It is false teaching and , in my opinion, hogwash.

You continue to post basically the same ideas over and over again, and seem to be implying that you got this revelation straight from God and not from Scripture. you are in grave error if that is what you believe.

    Hi Richard,

    1Jn 1:8-10 explains the operations of John 16:8; & the exercises of Hebrews 5:13;14; when He convicts of sin or of righteousness, He bring these two seeds of thought within into judgment. The still small Voice of conscience that reproves us of sinful thoughts, words or actions, this is Grace Titus 2:11 / Light John 1:9 Christ spiritual appearance within our hearts, Ephesians 5:13; to 1 John 3:8; if rejected, His word has no place within us, & we call Him a liar & why? John 3:19,20; Rom 1:18,19; rejecting Him, we suppress the Truth in unrighteousness. Therefore we don't John 1:12; but if we receive His convictions, we received the power that comes with the conviction to become the sons of God, for the 1Cor 12:7; More insight of the Spirit operations within conscience, Rom 2:15;

So there's a time when Holy Spirit comes to us as sinners, for Rom 3:23 & a time ( if we received His words ) repentance is granted & we're cleanse from all sin. 1 John 1:9; Titus 2:14; 2Cor 7:1; by the 1 Pet 1:23; = Light, becoming Matt 5:48; 1 Pet 1:15,16; for they that are 1Cor 6:17 & in Him 1 John 3:5; All by the working of Grace / Light / Spirit appearance within conscience.

Bro Dan. Just to clarify: in my response to RyanL's brief question, I took it to mean that Saturday was like any day of the week & whether work or relaxation was the priority. I understand that you believe in following the Jewish Sabbath, which I do not hold to. Therefore, my answer was given on that basis (that RyanL wasn't asking about the Sabbath, but about a (any) Saturday) - but I think you may have gathered that. But if I were to believe in & practise Sabbath Day precepts, then even fishing & golfing would be unacceptable to me. Blessings.

    Giannis,

I would add one thing. When God speaks of Israel or Jerusalem or the Church, He uses these terms both in a corporate sense and in a Spiritual sense.

"Not all Israel (all of National Israel) are of Israel (the Israel of God, i.e. all true Believers) Rom 9:6

The Jerusalem that is now (all that are in bondage to and under the law, i.e. all unsaved) and the Jerusalem above (that is free, i.e.True Believers) Galatians 4:22-26.

The Church (local churches or National Israel made up of saved and unsaved) and the Eternal Church (All True Believers) Eph 5:23-32 Heb 12-23

And this is dependent on the context.

There is no future role for National Israel with respect to God's Salvation Program. We all stand on exactly the same ground.

    Part 2

    Testaments, Old and New.

And a precious gift for believers. The Spirit of God, not upon people as before, but inside His children. A helper with our strive against sin, the means os sanctification , a means of becoming the image of God ... and much more,

So the New Testament is moving a step forward from where the Old Testament stopped, a deeper dive in the sea.

So going back to my previous posts. Different types of grace to different people using different covenants? No but one people (now extended) and one Covenant (now renewed).

Continuity, from the very begining till the end.

    GBU
  • Giannis - 1 year ago
    Part 1

    Testaments, Old and New.

Different Testaments? No, not really. Actually the Old one but renewed.

Jesus has said, Matthew 17-19, "(17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

The New Testament is actually a "renewed version" of the Old Testament.

BUT it progresses one step forward. It goes deep in the heart of people where all starts.

Jesus quides people into the deeper origins of sin creation. Sin, He said, is not pnly the outward manifestation of it but people should look inside their heart to find out the origins of it and fight it. The circumcition of the flesh should become the circumsision of the heart. There is no need to swear, just say the truth. Don't separate your wife, God doesn't accept it any more, it wasn't His actual wish from the very beginining. Do not get angry with your brother since that may lead you even to murder. You can eat any type of animal we want, because God now cleans them through prayer...and many more. And mainly the sacrifices of animals were actually of no use in erasing sins. Jesus has now become our sacrifice. The Old Testament revealed what sin is, BUT gave no way of escaping from it. Paul says in Romans 7: 7 that the Law showed us what is sin.The Law lead people to Christ, Paul in Galatians 1:24 says "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." The perfect sacrifice who leads believers to perfection. Not abolishing of our sinful nature but forgiveness through His sacrifice.

    Hello Giannis,

If you are responding to my comment on "Dispensations". I used that term only because I do NOT hold to the view of scripture and God's Salvation and Judgment plan and End Time events held by those that would consider themselves "Dispensationalists".

As you say, the Nature of Salvation and Judgment are constant and consistent throughout the history of the world.

The Salvation of Able was exactly the same as the Salvation of Abraham and Moses and Paul and any True Believer throughout time. And every individual, regardless of national origin stands on exactly the same ground before God.

However God does operate differently during different periods of history regarding His plan for the sending forth of the Gospel. And He expands our understanding of Salvation and Judgment as He deals with and records His dealings with various individuals and Nations and the Church. This was my point.

I was using the word "Dispensations" a bit tongue in cheek for a subject that is otherwise very serious. And I probably should not have done that.

My apologies if I was not clear. But what I stated is what I believe the Bible teaches.

It would seem so based on 1 John 5:19; 2 Corinthians 4:4 and other similar verses.

This corresponds with the idea of all those not written in the Book of Life as well in Revelation 20:5. The status of a person is determined by God; as well as those who the Son is revealed to. ( Matt. 11:27). Thus; in God's timing Antichrist is revealed; and therefore those who do not love the truth will believe THE LIE ( 2 Thess. 2:11-12).
