    John 1:4

First, receiving Christ does not mean that your future sins have been forgiven. That is why John says, "...but if we sin we have an advocate with the Father...", you have to repent to be forgiven as 1 John 1:9 assures us.

Those are not just acts, they are transgressions of the 10 commandments. And sin by definition is transgression of the Law 1 John 3:4 and Romans 4:15. It is a verb with a meaning. Without the commandements, the how do you know that you have sinned, because even Paul in his epistle to the Romans 7:7-13 says that it was because of the law that he knew sin. And there are so many verses from him that forbids us to commit that act of sin.

James in his epistle 2:8-14, tells it very well that we should keep all the 10 commandments and quotes two of them. Having being saved by Christ is by faith, but you show this faith by keeping God's law so that people know that you are saved and through your actions they may get to know God.

With this in mind, there are two kinds of laws in the Bible, the 10 commandments and the Mosaic Law. The Mosaic Law is what Christ nailed on the cross and that we have no obligation to follow. But the 10 commandments are perpetual, even Christ Himself says they will never change until heaven and earth come to pass, Matthew 5:18-19.

In the Hebrew nation, before Christ they used to sin knowingly because they knew in the Mosaic law there was a provision that if you sin, you take a lamb or any other animal as prescribed by that law, take it to the priest, confess to it and when it was sacrificed you were forgiven of your sins. But now with Christ, all that was no more, and this applies to us too. That when we sin knowingly we grieve the Holy Spirit because He convicts us of sin, Ephesians 4:30, Matthew 12:30-32.

    Darlene,

There are many verses that prove Jesus is God. John 1:1 states that Jesus is God. In Hebrews 1:8, Jesus is called God. Jesus Himself claimed to be God. Jesus also said before Abraham was, "I am," the name God used. Jesus also said I and my Father are ONE. Jesus said "if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. I agree that there is only one God, but that one God consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, all three being God.

1 John 1:8 says it all. To all of you who say you have no sin anymore, you only deceive yourselves and the truth isn't in you. Just to look upon another and have lust in your heart is committing adultery with them. Jesus told us that. It isn't about the 10 commandments, cause God gave us those to show that we are all sinners.

Paul tells us to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and that is the gospel of Grace. That is salvation for us in the age of Grace. God's grace for all who believe. Don't put your trust in your ability to keep all the commands and to live a righteous life. Cause you can't, and God already knows that. That is why He sent us His Son.
  • Jesse - In Reply on Ephesians 5:26 - 4 years ago
    Walter,

There is a whole lot of truth in what you are saying here. In your first post, you say "Thy word is truth" and that is what does the washing. There are two keywords I see in Thy word is truth, (Word and Truth). Jesus is called the word in John 1:1. And Jesus is called the truth in John 14:6. Both the word and the truth refer to a person, and that person is Jesus Christ. John baptized with water which could not fully cleanse anyone, but Jesus baptizes people with His Spirit. That is the baptism that cleanses us completely.

Now as far as sin goes, for the person who has been born of God's Spirit, that person can still commit an act of sin. However, a person who belongs to Christ is no longer capable of living a lifestyle of continuous sin because God's Spirit in that person is there to convict them and keep them from sinning (Habitually). Prior to receiving Christ, a person can live a lifestyle of sin, sin daily, and think nothing of it. But this is not the case for the ones who belong to Christ.

You mention something that Paul also said, although not the exact same words, "I find no good thing in me except the word (the truth)." As a believer, I understand this to mean that in my flesh there is nothing good. My flesh wants nothing to do with God and continuously wants to get away. But the word, the truth (Christ) in me, He is good. When we as believers stand before God one day, we're going to know we don't deserve to be there. But God is going to look at us and He's going to see His Son. The only way we enter in is to have Christ in us. That is the only good thing God is going to see in me when I stand before Him, and that is how I enter in.

I hope you have truly called upon the Lord to save you. If so, He has promised to save you and keep you saved. You are doing well to immerse yourself in the word. If you have already received Christ, just know that He is the one who lives in you that is giving you the hunger and desire to remain in His word.

Truly the LORD our God is one LORD:

    Matthew 3:16-17:

"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

    Mark 1:10-12:

"And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness."

    John 1:1:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

    1 John 5:7:

"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."

2 Timothy 3:5 - Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Deuteronomy 7:3-4 - Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 - Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

Ephesians 5:11 - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

3 John 1:11 - Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

1 Corinthians 7:1-40 - Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

Don't think older people in the Lord do not understand the rush of young love.

Myself... I wish someone had told me it's not going to work out so long as the other is unsaved. Take her to church with you. You Pray for her to receive Jesus.

God created sex. He also performed the first marriage. You are not Adam and Eve.

You may have met the wrong woman. And the right one is praying for God to bring you to her.

You may hate me for this: but Satan can tempt us with the wrong choice. It takes huge faith to trust in God in these matters.

You should be praying for God to prepare her to receive salvation. Be meek and accept Gods leading and confirmation.

There is a great link in this website that will lead you through the steps to become a Christian. There are things we need to understand and agree that we are sinners in need of salvation.

Once you receive the Holy Spirit, He is the one who makes alive, your spirit; and you will hear or feel His leading to get free from past things that hold you back. He'll help you recall things and you go to 1 John 1:9, to give those things to Jesus and receive his cleansing of those memories.

If you are strong enough to fast 21 days, you will be a great witness for Jesus. You can have as much of Jesus's love that you desire in your soul. Song of Solomon 3:16,

4 Events when the Godhead spoke to each other concerning a matter:

    The "LET US" scriptures"

    Genesis 1:26

    Genesis 3:22

    Genesis 11:7

    1 John 5:7

If your Bible has center of each page, columns; read the scriptures it lists for those verses. It widens the information, or sometimes mentions a prophesy. You'll discover many gems of wisdom that way.

    Adam,

Yes, I have read John 10:30.

The word "one" is the Greek world "hen" which is neutral, and means "one in essence", not one person, which would be the Greek word "heis," which is masculine.

You have picked one Scripture out of the Bible to prop your belief up on without putting it in context, look at ( John 10:22-29).

Again, what do you do with all those Scriptures that says God and Jesus are two different entities?
  • Adam - In Reply on John 1:10 - 4 years ago
    Hello, have you read this?

    John 10:30

To me, while there's some separation because of their names, it says they "are one" that means they are one and unified as a being or entity. Therefore Jesus is God too. He has the powers and checks all the other boxes of a divine being but is not God the father. I personally don't know how this verse can be interpreted any other way. In other verses it shows them unified with the Holy Spirit too so that's how people come to understand the concept of a trinity.

    How is Jesus God?

    God is God.

Jesus is the SON of God.

When Jesus called His Father "God" He was referring to Psalms 22, which He was teaching to the people present there. He was not complaining.

Jesus was NEVER forsaken by God.

What do we do with all Scripture that speaks of BOTH the Father and the Son? Matthew 11:27, 16:27, Mark 8:38, 13:32, Luke 1:32, John 3:35, Galatians 4:6, Hebrews 1:5, 1 John 4:14, etc. etc. etc.)

    b. do you go to Confession for absolution? 1 Timothy 2:5 tells us that there is only one Mediator between God & man & His Name is Jesus. By believing that a priest can hear & absolve your sins shows that Christ is not approachable & cannot forgive, yet 1 John 1:9 says ""If we confess our sins (to whom?), he (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". We have our High Priest seated in Heaven (see Hebrews 5:5,6 & 10:21,22): there is no Priest, Cardinal or Pope that can ever do the work of Jesus in Heaven for us.

    c. do you believe in the Eucharist that Christ's Body & Blood are physically evident there? Every time you partake of it, you are sacrificing Christ, or continuing Christ's sacrifice perpetually. Jesus died for your sins once only - we do great wrong to perpetually put Him to the Cross. Romans 6:9,10: "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth NO MORE; death hath NO MORE dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin ONCE: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." Jesus is no longer at the Cross - He is seated at the Father's right Hand, continually interceding for His children ( Romans 8:34).

    d. do you study God's Word for yourself or leave it up to the Priest to teach you? 2 Timothy 2:15, says to read & study God's Word for yourself & allow Him to speak to you from it. For many years, Catholics were not allowed to read the Bible for themselves, being told that they won't be able to understand it. So many blindly followed what they were taught - some are now reading the Bible for themselves & seeing new things. That is why we get such questions here: they may be very simple basic questions, but for those people, they were never told the Truth & so are desperate for answers. Please read the references I've given & other portions of the Bible in your devotion times with God: God will speak to you directly.

The ladder in verse 12 is a depiction of Jesus as related to Nathanael by Jesus in John 1:51. He is the one and only mediator between God and man ( 1 Timothy 2:5). We can come boldly to the throne of grace by Jesus Christ ( Hebrews 4:14-16).

In John 3:13 Jesus tells Nicodemus "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven."

    Romans 10:6-9 states:

"But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

    But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

Paul told of a certain experience in 2 Corinthians 12 then humbly chose to glory in his infirmities rather than exalt himself, being made strong in weakness.

    Ephesians 2:4-7 says:

"But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."

From these I gather that by faith in Jesus Christ we are as good as being seated in heaven in Christ, but as Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:6-7, "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)".

Read Job 38 which tells you the Sons of God shouted for joy at the foundation (creation) of the earth.

Adam did not exist until 6 days after the earth was created. So how can the sons of God be godly men? Adam did not even exist to shout then.

since when do godly men marry ungodly women and then giants are born to them?

John 1:14 Jesus is the ONLY BEGOTTEN Son of God.

Luke 3:38 Adam is called a son of God since God created him.

1 John 3:1 Believers do not become Sons of God till they are born of the Spirit.

So who was the Father of the angels? would they not be Sons of God also?

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

I know most churches will argue with me and claim Genesis 6 is not referring to angels and I say they are wrong.

when do believers and unbelievers get married and have giants for kids? Goliath anyone?

Matthew 22:30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God IN HEAVEN. NOT ALL THE ANGELS ARE IN HEAVEN, some were cast out.

The Bible says: that there is only "one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" ( 1 Timothy 2:5; "If we confess our sins (to whom?), he (Jesus) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

The Eucharist bread & wine mystically changed to the actual Body & Blood of Christ so you partook of Christ each time at Mass. The wafer tasted like a wafer, but you were required to believe that a physical change in them took place because Jesus was being crucified afresh each time. The Bible says in Romans 6:9,10: "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth NO MORE; death hath NO MORE dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin ONCE: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God." The Eucharist (we call the Lord's Table) also has the bread & the wine but they are representative only of His broken Body & shed Blood for us at Calvary. If they were supposed to change into His actual Body, then His disciples should have rather eaten his flesh when they ate together in the Upper Room ( Luke 22:19,20). But they ate the bread & drank the wine instead, which were only emblems of His Body & Blood. So, the apostles & the Church (then & now) do not re-crucify Jesus each time but we remember His Death in this way as Jesus instructed.

I've only mentioned a few things that are important for you to know, but there is much more. The matter of not praying to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, or praying to the saints, or believing in purgatory, & many more RC teachings that are not in the Bible.

Yet, to answer your question: "how do I know if I'm saved?" Firstly, you need to know that Christ's salvation is only by having FAITH in what He did for you on the Cross: faith in His dying for your sins, taking your place; His Resurrection back to life showing that God accepted His Sacrifice; His Ascension back into Heaven & His intercessory work for you right now.

God is Spirit. There are MANY scriptures on God being seen. If you read it slowly, you will see the description is in imagery.

Go get some pen & paper and write down these scriptures; then you can read them and picture God in your heart when you pray.

    John 1:18, John 6:46, John 5:37

    1 John 4:12, 1 John 3:6, 1 John 4:20

    1 Timothy 1:17, 1 Timothy 6:16

    Luke 1:31-32, Matthew 22, Romans 1:20

    Philippians 2, Hebrews 1:1-13,

    Colossians 1:15

    Deuteronomy 4:12, 15. Exodus 3:6

    Exodus 33:20-23

    Isaiah 38:11, Isaiah 64:4

    Job 9:11, Job 35:14, Job 23:8

This is a ps from me: if you have "pictures of God" (some artist imagined) in your home? You need to get rid of them,

According to Exodus 20. That's not a photograph of God and is considered to be a graven image. Crosses on the wall is ok, but not images.

I have 1 still life painting of a bowl of fruit and a pitcher of water. It makes me think of eating a meal with Jesus.

Jesus was turned into human rubble before the Cross. He did that for you! You've accepted Him as your Savior. Ought you to make Him the Lord over you, your choices?

Your heart is a Throne. Either Jesus sits on it; or you do. Every single day we make a choice to walk with Him or run headlong into trouble.

1 John 1:9 is where you run to for times when fall out of step with Jesus. The Holy Spirit is your Helper; Teacher of scripture and about Jesus; your Comforter when you are lonely or hurt.

We all make mistakes, even me. That's why we run to the Cross to embrace the one who gave His Life for us. He also rose out of His Tomb and was Resurrected to Life everlasting. We can have that too as we live a new way as a Christian and a follower of Jesus.

Don't listen to Mr I Will anymore. He's going to hell real soon.

Pray to Jesus like He's in the room with you.

Like He's your friend that sticks closer than a brother or sister. If you'll keep yourself filled up on some Bible; you'll see days pile up into months, years, and it will have been worth it all.

After I was saved, I was doing cartwheels telling all my drunken friends I got saved.

They wanted me to "have some fun" and go out with them. I asked them to go to church with me. I lost all of those friends. I asked God to give me new friends....and He did!! It was like Acts chapter 1 all the time.

Your Christian walk can be fun if you pray for the right things.

Write that scripture I gave you on the back page of your Bible so you can find it fast. Better still read 1, 2, 3, John. Great info in there.

Do you really understand what Mormonism is?

In their Doctrines and Covenants of the Mormon faith they teach that Jesus is the brother of Satan.

Do you understand that means your savior is the brother of Satan.

The Bible teaches Jesus created all things, including Satan in

John 1:3 All things were made by (Jesus) him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Mormonism is a denial of the King James Bible since Jesus said:

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is FINISHED finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Mormonism is another testament, another gospel so basically this means it was not finished as the work of Christ.

Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Ask yourself if this means Mormonism is cursed?

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel (MORONi) from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Do you really want to trust an angel named MORONi

Do we really believe that Christianity was lost till Joseph Smith found some golden plates that no one knows where they are and an angel named MORONi visited him?

Are you prepared to tell Jesus your savior that he is the brother of Satan?

That is what Mormonism teaches. That the King James is full of errors and that they have another gospel.

    Please consider this carefully.

Funny how the archaeologists of the USA can not find any traces of the Nephites or Lamenites civilizations Smith wrote about.

Yes you are a candidate for salvation. You must repent of all sins and come to Jesus for forgiveness. You need to start reading your Bible too. Open it to the Book of

    John 3. Psalm 51

If you will go back to the opening of this website there is a section to learn the steps to salvation. You'll see a prayer you can pray. It's very complete and you'll be born again; and you'll go to heaven when you die. The good news is that your child's soul went to heaven; and is waiting for you.

You can start by reading these few scriptures: And then to the salvation page.

    Isaiah 1:18

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

    1 Peter 2:24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

    1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    1 John 2:2

And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

    John 20:23

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

    Acts 2:38

"I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" Luke 5:32

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Pray this prayer with sincerity of heart

"Dear God, I believe in you and that your Son, Jesus Christ, is Lord. I believe in His sacrifice for my sins and His resurrection from the dead. I repent and ask forgiveness for my sins and I'm deciding now to follow you. Please, come into my life through the gift of your Holy Spirit. It is in the Lord Jesus' name that I ask and receive, Amen."

The Bible says doing these things with sincerity means you are a Christian (Christ follower) and will have eternal life in heaven.

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:13

Use caution in trusting your feelings, as feelings change. Stand on God's promises- they never change.

Read John 3 in your Bible, or get a Bible at goodwill.

Go to: 1 John 1:9 (back of the Bible) to confess any new things or thoughts you sense needs to be confessed.

    Keep coming back here :)
