1 John 3:4 (KJV) 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1 John 3:4 (NKJV) 4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
1Jn 3:4 The opposite of purifying oneself is found in verse four: "Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness." The word commits is literally does (Gk., poieo). It is a matter of continual behavior, expressed by the present, continuous tense. It is possible to have sin even if there is no law. Sin was in the world between the time of Adam and Moses, but this was before God's law had been given. Thus it is not entirely accurate to say "that sin is a transgression of the law" (1611 KJV), but rather that sin is lawlessness. It is insubordination to God, wanting one's own way, and refusing to acknowledge the Lord as rightful Sovereign. In essence, it is placing one's own will above the will of God. It is opposition to a Living Person who has the right to be obeyed.
Fourth Day (1 of 3)
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
The Spirit is now giving us the creation of two lights which are qualified as great and it is set to rule the day and night. This coming after God had separated light from darkness gives us the role celestial objects play to which the Spirit adds details so the Will of the Father is set off against quality of the Son. These lights are to rule the day and the night respectively.
God commanded Let there be light. It is the Law or the constitution of the kingdom of God. "For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven."(Ps.119:89) When the Son says, "I have come to do thy will" we are given a relationship between God the Father and the Son who accepts the body prepared for him as a sacrifice. "It pleased the Father to bruise him (Is.53:10) and what the Son achieved thereby "For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified,"(He.10:14) are two expressions of God whose name is holy. So the will and the obedience of the Son who became the 'Word become flesh' are to be treated as one-which constitute the Law and it is what rules both day and night.
When God framed worlds by his word we are given the relationship of these two worlds, which are the World of the Spirit and of the visible world of the body. Faith in short is the DNA of the kingdom of Good.(He.11:3)
God is the Father of lights and he does not judge anyone. "For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son."( John 5:22) The day stands for the children of light and the night represent the children of wrath who does not come to light because their works are evil. ( John 3:16-20). "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." What is behind culture wars? Devil who sins from the beginning and he knows the value of ethnicity color etc.,
the first day
"And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day" (v.5)
God called the light and not the day as we know the term. Its meaning and significance derives from the light, which is true, in whom is the fulness. This day is decreed for the Son. (Ps.2:7) This separation of day from night is about those who would be guided by Spirit obedience or by spirit of disobedience. The Gospel of John makes it clear. Light signifies the life of man who would abide in the Son. "In him was life; and the life was the light of men./ And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." (John1:4-5) and "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil./ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved./ But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."( John 3:19-21)
St Paul had in his days come across such believers who were lovers of themselves that the doctrine of Christ was as any other doctrine and they put themselves as judges. Then there were Judaizers the false brethren 'who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus' (Gal.2:4). While writing to Timothy, he warns of the perilous times, of believers. Then as now. The Christians are urged 'to abound in every good work' and we have activism instead. Whose is stoking the controversies?
"That they might bring us into bondage," is the work of Satan. The devil sins from the beginning and Jesus Christ was manifested to destroy his works. (1 John 3:8) We shall take a quick look at the mischief he has wrought ,-and the controversy of state and religion did not arise in our time but was the outcome of war in heaven. "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon" (Re.12:7) In the vision of Daniel we read of it, "And it (he goat) waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them./ Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host."(Dan.8:11-12). In the the same chapter we are given to understand the events telescope into the end times, "Understand, O son of man: for at the time of the end shall be the vision." (8:17)
It is of the little horn we are interested in and where does his authority come from? We shall note that he did not win by the might of his own. It was given to him as in the case of the beast." And the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority(Re.13:2,11) So Daniel supplies us one trait of the little horn and he emerges into the history of nations "but not by his own power." He needs anti-Christ, and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. This is what we ought to take heed? 'Another gospel' has Jesus talk but his concord is with Belial.
Marriage Supper Of The Lamb (1 of 2)
"And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God."
A day is appointed for the Son.(Ps.2:7) The Spirit accordingly gives us the creation account which is compared to the house that Wisdom built. (Pr.9:1).
God created the heaven and the earth and how is, however, revealed by the writer to the Hebrews. (He.11:3). "In the beginning' placed in the opening sentence sets the divine Will of the Father as the impulse which the Son shall sustain till the end. "(God) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;/ Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power,"(He.1:2-3) God framed the worlds by faith and we are instructed by the Spirit that it is sustained or maintained by the Son whom he has appointed heir of all things. 'In the fulness of time' God sent his only begotten Son to the world.( John 3:16) so faith determined a holy family which shall be partakers of his grace, " the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:/ Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son," (Col.1;12-16)
Having said these now let us examine Ge.1:1. God is set in terms of the Father Son relationship. Jesus declares "My Father works hitherto and I work." The Word made flesh epitomizes the ministry of Jesus Christ. In his prayer he says, "I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine." ( John 17:9) When we consider the Word sanctifies us it means that we allow Jesus Christ do his perfect work. "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world./ Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."(17:16-17)
You mentioned me in your post above, so I felt that I should respond to you, as you have always been honest, sincere, and open regarding the scriptures.
Jesus informs us and provides us with warnings in the following in scripture:
Matthew 19:17 "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
Jesus tells us above if we want to enter into life - keep the commandments.
Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
If we want to have the right to the tree of life, and enter through the gates into the city we will do His Commandments. Jesus is stating: will do His Commandments. Who is Jesus referring to when he say His? God.
Both of these verses are spoken by Jesus, and both are commanding us (Christians) to keep God's Commandments if we wish to receive eternal life.
It can't get much clearer than this scripture, and the scripture itself will convict unbelievers.
The only possible argument on the above scripture would be how do we accomplish following God's Commandments. A Born Again Christian is following these Commandments via God's Holy Spirit, not of their own accord. Per this verse: 1 John 3:24
"And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."
So this really puts to rest the argument by a few on this site; that believe following God's Commandments aren't necessary, or that when we follow them, or encourage others to do so, we are trying to create/work for our own salvation. As you implied, we are living in the Spirt and being obedient to our God. Amen
Jesus/God shines the light for us, all we have to do is believe and follow it!

'The kings of the earth set themselves' would mean that the movers and shakers of the earth have a script ready. It may be 'Holy Roman Empire' or Calvin's City of God. In such a case we have the Worker's Paradise coming from the nascent Bolshevik Russia. We also have seen Divine Rights' or 'Bill of Rights' all of the same order,- the point is it is conceived by some mind,- and the Spirit is not blaming high-mindedness of man, but warning us that in its operation it is against the Lord. The serpent in the Garden of Eden did not simply speak his mind but was tutored by a fallen angel,- Satan or Lucifer or whatever. The point is that it is scripted in the world of the Spirit and in bad faith delivered to man 'created in the image of God.'. In the case of Adam God had given the man a commandment and Satan would defeat His purpose by deceiving the woman. It is thus Satan has sinned from the beginning. "He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."(1 John 3:8)
Who shall accuse the Founding Fathers of the US of bad faith? When they declared 'in God we trust' they were asserting their Christian faith. The point was that whether the nation and God was as one in their purpose? The founding fathers had slaves and the moral issue was not addressed at the time, it must be said that this moral ambiguity was enough for Satan. We know Satan had much legroom to make the bills serve his purpose than of God.(For instance Jim Crow laws in the post Restoration period. It is thus man who is not building with Christ creates a swamp instead of new Canaan.
Satan is the author of confusion and 'free speech' when he has given expression you hear now. Without truth of the word to subdue all ungodliness forcing upon you one is taken by the flood of misinformation. (Gal.3:1-3)
"And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper./The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away".(vv.3-4)
Ungodly are those who have not the Son. ( 1 John 2:23). We see several examples in the history of Israel where they made light of the commandments of God. "Be ye holy for I am holy."
How did the sons of Aaron serve God?
"And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not./ And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord./Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace."(Le.10:1-3)
When God presented his Son to the world it was not as a teacher but as the Savior of the world. ( John 3:16) "And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him." (He. 1:6). Without giving glory to God and his Word we pride of belonging as citizens of nations. How nations flounder under their own conceit? "Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD. (Je.2:11-13)
It pleased God the Father that in Jesus Christ should all fullness dwell. (Col.1:18) So our witnessing can only work with the true Light where he is the Way.
The chaff is what will-worship wants to achieve as against God and his glory above all.
The scripture below is truth, and it convicts all those that believe as you.
1 John 2: "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Matthew 19:17 "And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments."
Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
Jesus spoke to apostle John in this verse above in Revelation 22:14 approximately 60 years after His death on the cross, and about 18 years after apostle Pauls death. Jesus knew what Paul preached, and he preached the same gospel as Christ! Paul did not cancel any of God's commandments, he and all of the apostles followed them during their lives. Do you really believe you are favored over and above Christ and His apostles, they followed the Commandments but now you and others today feel you don't have to. Really.
Lastly, I do not believe we can continue this discussion as your beliefs conflict with the scripture, and your popular modern day take on salvation 2Tim 4:3 is only deceiving to those that are not living in God's Spirit. 1 John 3:24 God's Salvation is not a buffet to pick and choose what scripture that you believe, and what scripture you will ignore!
I pray that God's Spirit will eventually convict you, and some others here, to actually pick up your cross and follow Christ, which will result in obedience, and a desire to follow Gods Commandments, and turn away from this sinful and deceived world. Matt 16:24
To believe as you do you would have to be very deceived to completely ignore tons of bible scripture regarding God's commandments.
1 John 2:4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him
Matthew 5:19 "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."
Jesus knows who really loves Him. John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Jesus kept His Father Commandments, and if we are REAL Christ Followers, we will pick up our cross and follow Christ including doing what He did - and follow God's Commandments.
Lastly, here is Jesus telling us that we need to follow God's Commandments is we wish to have eternal life. Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
So, you are basically telling others on this site to ignore Jesus and God, and much of the bible scripture!
Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
The "Holy One" is Christ Himself, not David the man.
So Christ, Eternal God Himself, took upon Himself the sins of those whom He "saves", He Died in His entire being and experienced the Wrath of God as Full Payment for their sins, and DID go into the grave (or hades). But His Soul was not left there. Because He Rose from Death since that the full payment for the sins of His Elect had been COMPLETED.
So when Christ applies Salvation to someone whom He "saves"; i.e. they become Born Again, He gives them a New Resurrected Soul (or Spirit) which in itself, "cannot sin" 1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
So when the True Believer dies physically, their "unsaved Body" goes into the Grave and corrupts to await the Resurrection of the Last Day when their Salvation will be COMPLETED and they will receive their Resurrected Spiritual Body ( 1 Cor 15). But their Soul, i.e. their Spirit Essence, goes immediately to be with Christ in Heaven.
I understand you want to distinguish between the Soul and the Spirit of Mankind. But despite the two verses in Hebrews and 1 Thessalonians, I see the words Soul and Spirit as being synonymous when speaking of the Spirit Essence of Man.
Regarding the Luke 23:46 passage, that is absolutely true. Christ's Spirit went to be with the Father in Heaven, and not into the Grave with His Body which DID NOT corrupt. Why?
And now I'm going to shock you by suggesting that Christ actually made full payment for the sins of HIS Elect even before the Foundation of the World ( Rev 13:8 & Heb 4:3). And the Cross was a actually a DEMONSTRATION of that payment that had already been made. This is why Christ was able to say "IT IS FNISHED", even before He died physically on the Cross and rose again from the grave three days later.
I agree this should not cause any division, we must always treat each other with care and love of growing in faith and knowledge of the word of God.
Everlasting punishment, I once understood the same as you on this when we read Matt. 18:8 Matt. 25:46 and 2 Thess. 1:9 they seem to support it. And the verses that have "weeping or wailing and gnashing of teeth" that I cringe every time I read them. So, after the white throne judgment, all the wicked and unsaved people will be cast into the lake of fire the everlasting fire Rev. 20:15 Rev. 21:8 and they have a conscious eternal, everlasting, forever and ever suffering.
On the other hand, we have Matt. 10:28 God can destroy both soul and body in hell/geenna. This carries us back to that other topic the immortal soul. In John 3:16 and Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The wicked will perish, be destroyed, and be consumed. If the wicked are to be tortured in the lake of fire forever, they would also be given eternal life.
The fire is everlasting, it is permanent they will be destroyed and never come back they will not ever live again. We see what eternal fire can do in Jude 1:7 with Sodom and Gomorrha they were destroyed and have never returned.
Rev. 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
You may see this verse differently but "shall have their part in the lake" I understand as God's fair justice, like stripes in Luke 12:48. Just punishment for their works or should be said their wickedness. If the wages of sin is death I believe the second death is everlasting death, forever to be no more, not everlasting punishment.
Just my understanding thanks again for your replies.
God bless,
RLW
Please refer to my respond to Chris re Heb 4:12 and 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
On your statements regarding the Wrath of God and the nature of Christ's Atonement, I must disagree.
I would encourage you to carefully read Isaiah 53, the entire chapter.
And also consider these verses:
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Ephesians 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Colossians 3:6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
So if God has "saved" us, it means that Christ, eternal God Himself, had taken upon Himself every dirty rotten sin that we have committed or ever will commit, and has paid the full penalty for those sins, the Wrath of God, Eternal Death, which we rightly deserve, required by the Law of God, as our substitute. And He has freed us from Bondage to Sin and Satan, and has raised us from Spiritual Death and given us Eternal Life. And will at the Last Day, complete our Salvation by giving us our Resurrected Spiritual Body ( 1 Corinthians 15) in which we will live and reign with Christ as joint inheritors with Christ of the New Heavens and New Earth for ever more.
Praise God for so great Salvation!
I don't see where the verses you referenced conflict in any way with what I said or the verses I quoted.
If God has "saved" us, i.e. we have become Born Again, we will ENDURE TO THE END. We will have an earnest ongoing desire to be obedient to the Law of God and we will more and more turn away from sin in our life; not in order that God will "save" us, but because we have a "want to" in our Soul to obey Him.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Then God will COMPLETE our Salvation at the Last Day when we receive our Resurrected Spiritual Bodies.
Here are some other verses for your consideration:
John 3:3-8 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Yet to clarify for those that are new: 1 Peter 3:21, (as goes w/a few other verses suchas John 3:3-21, 12:43-50 & Titus 3:5. "To be born again/saved after repenting is *except Christ as Lord, believe in His DBR & therefore being in His spirit as one by Gods grace & it is thru this, that we are saved*, which is the ONLY thing getting us to heaven.! NOTHING else is needed.!
Referance of being baptised 'of' (not 'in') water is of the mothers womb for God being ALL OMNI- knew man would some day try & duplicate His creation. (As man is now). BEFORE Christ DBR there was water baptism. Spititual baptistm is when one chooses (Gods freewill, not forced) to repent excepting His DBR as truth in their heart.! Wolves in sheep clothing may lead them to Christ yet God will guide them to His truth in His time for His purpose.
Water baptism is merely an outword show of our salvation for others to help hold us accountable. We can be comforted w/His peace that passes ALL understanding if we continually seek His word. We'll go through trials till He knows if we're strong enough in His wisdom to complete His way for us.! Did the thief nx to Jesus come down from the cross, get baptised & placed bk up to die? No, Christ knew his heart was sincere, forgave him instantly, of his sins & said "today you shall be with me in paradise".! No water needed.!
As for " 1 Cor 14, Yes tongues Is a gift for some (NOT entire congregation) from God or at times were 2-3 (no more) gather (again HE knows their heart so to do so w/out an interpreter in anyother situation is blasphemy). Only truly believing His DBR will get us eternity in heaven.
John 3:15-21 (Christ own words). Doesn't say 'believe in me & do this or that'. The period after Everlasting life.

Iy is comforting to know that so many people are seeking the truth, By searching 'A World Deceived' it showed 34,200.000 Listings in Canada.
We explained earlier how Satan deceived this whole world ( Rev. 12:9) as confirmed in 2 Cor. 11:13-15 through the Religions of this world with the Mystery Babylon (The Roman Catholic Church) as its head and the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth (other Religions that followed). It didn't refer to a particular Religion or Cult, but it referred to the whole world.
John 3:19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
John 3:19. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
(Part 2):
Here's the importance of those Perfect Tense verbs in the Greek text:
Jesus is not giving them and the church the authority to go around binding and loosing. We see this in Matthew Chapter 18, and Matthew tells us that it has do with sin.
In 1 John 3:8, the word "loosed" is used for how Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. It is the word loosed.
When a person gets saved, they are loosed from Satan. So the church has authority to either bind someone to their sins or loose them from their sins.
What gives us that authority? It's something that has already been established in heaven!
Thou shalt bind that which has been bound already in heaven. It is a condition. And thou shall loose on earth things that shall have been loosed in heaven already.
So the church is here to declare that which has already been determined in heaven. We are only proclaimers!
What right do I have to tell anybody that they need to receive Christ and His death for them on the cross to be saved?
We (you and I) have the authority to tell people that we've got the key. We have got the key that unlocks the door. His name is Jesus!
If you receive Him, I have the authority to tell you that you have been loosed from your sins. If you refuse Him, I have the authority to tell you that if you continue to reject Him throughout your whole life, you'll be bound to your sins and you will die in your sins.
That is pretty authoritative! But I didn't make that up. That is the authority God has given to the church, you and I.
Never feel hypocritical for telling someone what has already been established in heaven and for something God has given you the authority to say!
God Bless!!!
it wasn't a light things in Paul's day to be a Christian, one could experience the things that Saul did to Christians, before he became Paul.
you stated:
We are to judge those who are inside. Why? Because those inside the church who are involved in sin, they must be dealt with in order that they might repent."detailing a person who has not yet repented"
Paul's speaking about being a member of the body of Christ here, how can one be in the church, & has not yet repented?
a quote from William Penn
Sin is of one nature the world over. For though a liar is not a drunkard,
nor a swearer a whoremonger, nor either properly a murderer, yet they are
all of one church; all branches of the one wicked root, all of kin. They have
but one father, the devil, as Christ said to the professing Jews, the visible
church of that age. He slighted their claims to Abraham and Moses, and
plainly told them that "everyone who sins is a slave to sin" ( John 8:34).
The Jewish religious leaders did the devil's work, and therefore were the
devil's children. The argument will always hold upon the same reasons, for
as Paul said: you are slaves to the one whom you obey, ( Rom 6:16); and
said John to the church of old, "Let no man deceive you; he that commits
sin is of the devil" (1 John 3:7-8). Was Judas ever the better Christian for
crying, "Hail, Master," and kissing Christ? By no means; they were the
signal of his treachery; the signs given so the bloody Jews could identify
Him and arrest Him. Judas called Him Master, but betrayed Him;
he kissed, but sold Him to be killed; the same is the result of the
false Christian's religion.
how many who would call themselve Christian's today, members of His Body, fall underneath this judgment & be put away because of their continuing in sin?
society today is a direct reflection of the state of this false church of Rev 17 preaching you can be a Christian & yet continue in sin. Mark 7:7 Titus 1:11
in love & truth Rev 18:4
I don't think you've been reading/comprehending what I've been writing. My main point is that many christians today are deceived into thinking they do not have to follow God's/Jesus Commandments. They will tell you straight out that they don't have to. There is so much scripture supporting the need to adhere to these commands, and I've listed many verses previously.
1John 2:4 A Born Again Christian will in fact adhere and consciously follow God's Commandments. Why? Not because they are doing it on their own, it is because God's Holy Spirit is working in them to do it. So David, It is not works when you are following God's Spirit and adhering to the commands in the scriptures. Doing good works is the result of the Holy Spirit. 1John 3:24 Convincing each of us to pick up our cross, and turn away from this world is God working a miracle in us. As Christian's we should be sharing this with each other, and encouraging each other to obey God, keep His Commandments, and strive daily to overcome sin! Instead, I hear a lot of Christian's telling each other that they will never stop sinning, while at the same time continuing to live their worldly lifestyles.
The scripture always shines a bright light on the truth! Regarding God's Commandments there are so many verses outlining the need for us to embrace and become obedient, and this is just one of many powerful verses regarding the Commandments and in-fact: could be the greatest regarding keeping the Commandments and achieving salvation: Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
In summary, the above verse tells us Jesus will personally be at the entrance to the Kingdom/Everlasting Life, and "He tells us directly" to have the right to the tree of life, and enter through the gates into the city, ONLY those that do His Commandments!
Jesus shines the light!

You state: "I think there is a difference between trying to obey the commandments and believing that we need to obey them in order to be acceptable to God." Jesus doesn't agree with you Jema, and He is telling you that we must do this to be acceptable - to Him. I previously gave you the verse below spoken by Jesus, He is telling us point blank:
Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
Jesus leaves no wiggle room in the above verse. Hebrews 4:12 False teachers are very prevalent today, they are out amongst us, they believe and teach others that they can ignore tons of scripture like this regarding the commandments and sin. They live worldly lives almost indistinguishable from the secular/atheists. They try to convince themselves, and others that they can have this world and still receive salvation. Jude 1:10
Jema, I remember FrankieJ previously gave you some good spiritual advice, I will also. We must withdraw from the world. Put God first, including His Commands/Commandments.
Stop telling yourself and others that you can NEVER stop sinning. If you have God's Holy Spirit anything is possible! Have Faith! Believe!!!
Encourage yourself and others to stop sinning. Similar to alcohol and drugs, Sin is a Addiction. If you don't acknowledge it - it will control you and ultimately bring you to destruction.
3 John 1:11 "Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God."
And please remember if you want God to dwell in you: 1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."

This is a topic that comes up often on this site.
There's maybe a handful such as Bro Dan that believes the commandments was given as a requirement to earn salvation. "When you are done, God owes you"
Look at it this way.
Ok, IF the commandments was given as a requirement to earn your salvation.
Here's questions we should ask ourselves
Does the scripture say; "do the best you can, OR KEEP THEM?, It says keep them!
Can the commandments cause one to be born Again as mentioned in John 3:1-21? Nicodemus a teacher of the Law could not comprehend this.
How many times can you get away with sin before you are doomed for hell? ( I would suggest that you are born a sinner, being that you have to be born Again to become saved.)
If God required a perfect Lamb to take your place and atone for your sins
it's because God required you to be perfect in keeping yourself apart from sin. ( ALL YOUR LIFE)
The thought of sinning is a sin!
No one was able to do this and no one e ever will!
WE ARE TO DO OUR BEST BUT THAT NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
WE NEEDED A SAVIOUR!
Please read Galatians 3:1-29 and
Romans 7:14-25.
Also let's take a look at what Dan shared.
1 John 3:24. "AND HE THAT KEEPETH HIS COMMANDMENTS DWELLETH IN HIM, AND HE IN HIM. AND HEREBY WE KNOW THAT HE ABIDETH IN US, BY THE SPIRIT WHICH HE HATH GIVEN US."
( This is done after salvation!! Hereby we know he is in us, when we keep his commandment.)
This is what I said in my first reply!
( Everything else is obedience to him after you are saved, because he wills you and Lords over your life with a regenerated heart )
Let's go to the previous verse to see what this commandment is to get more context.
1 John 3:23AND THIS IS HIS COMMANDMENT, THAT WE SHOULD BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF HIS SON JESUS CHRIST, AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as he gave us commandment.
This is what the Holyspirit causes you to do!
John is telling you what you should expect.
I pray others can help also.
Back to work for me.

There are many deceived people, and false teachers out there saying you don't have to follow God's Commandment's.
John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Those that do not keep God's Commandments do not love Jesus/God.
1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."
Here the scripture tells us plainly the if someone say they know God but don't keep the commandments are a liar.
1 John 2:4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Lastly, Jesus tells us in the scripture below: those that do not keep the commandments - do not have right to the tree of life, and can not enter in though the gates of the city - Eternal Life!
Revelation 22:14"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."
There is much more scripture regarding keeping Gods Commandments throughout the bible. Do not take anyones word regarding your salvation. Please read the scriptures and pray to God for His truth. God reveals all truth in scriptures like above regarding following His commandments and all things related to receiving your salvation.

Recognizing that God is generous to you is acknowledging God and his presensence in you: YOUR HIS BODY. His word says he causes you to do his pleasure; therefore, you are not acting irresponsible with his generosity, but are acting according to his will.
Philippians 2:13 For it is God that WORKETH in you, both TO WILL and TO DO of his good pleasure.
Ezekiel 36:27 And I WILL put my spirit IN YOU and CAUSE you to walk in my statutes and ye shall keep my JUDGEMENTS and DO THEM.
Colossians 1:27 .....THIS MYSTERY ..... CHRIST IN YOU ......
You DIED with Christ on the cross, ONLY Christ arose; and you as a joint heir, with Christ of that resurrection, A NEW CREATION.
Luke 20:36 Neither can they (YOU, Jema) DIE anymore, for they (YOU, Jema) are equal unto the angels, and are the children of God, being the CHILDREN (YOU, Jema) of the RESURRECTION.
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he (YOU, Jema) that hath part in the FIRST (you and Christ) RESURRECTION ......
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is BORN of God (TRUTH) CANNOT COMMIT SIN; for his seed (the anointing) remaineth in him, and he cannot sin because he is born of God (TRUTH).
The wages of sin is DEATH: you DIED on the cross, the life IN YOU is CHRIST, your the BODY of CHRIST.
BELIEVE, Christ is CAUSING you to do HIS WILL, for his good pleasure, you ARE NOT irresponsible, but walking in the WILL of God.
God Bless you
1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us."

Same gospel, yet in an embryo state of types & shadows, its blessing were outward, worldly & only cleansed to the purifying of the flesh, was a tutor to led us to Christ who's Blood cleanses the conscience from dead works " sin; meaning the author of it " by His Spirit of Grace & Truth in the inward parts.
The OT gospel of the letter commanded, but could not empower, thus the history of Israel never continuing steadfast & faithful to the end. Which is a repeated exhortation in Hebrews to us & them as our example of what not to do.
Yet, God in Hebrews 11 gives us Light of the true & living faith, that comes by hearing & hearing by the Word of God, Himself. We must put a separation from a faith that comes from the letter & the living faith that comes from the Spirit, letter kills, Spirit brings us into the very Life of God, becoming partakers of the Divine Nature & delivers us from the corruption of our fleshly birth.
With the NT gospel of Grace, inwardly, God promise Holy Spirit provides the power for the new birth John 3:6 its blessing are inward, heavenly, spiritual, in truth "Christ" the Substance of all things. Who in the fullest of time was made a life quickening Spirit, for our sake
Concerning the rest of Chapter 4 its has to do with obedience to the gospel under the 2 covenants, it they would have obey, their was a certain measure of rest that OT gospel provided, otherwise, they could not have been condemned for not entering into it & the same goes for us, the question is, who will truly enter?
Our rest is in Christ, the Substance, who provides all for us, in causing us to will & do of His good pleasure by the promise
Holy Spirit, to those that believe, believing & obeying are synonym, we enter into His works that were finished from the foundation of the world Ephesians 2:10 provided we obey Him, thus He becomes the Author of eternal salvation to all that obey Him.
NT the birth.
Thank you, God, who cannot be tempted of evil, James 1:13 or lie, Titus 1:2. God could not fulfill the law, flesh had to fulfill it because the curse of sin was on flesh. How could you fulfill a law if you were not capable of breaking it? We are told Jesus the Son of God was tempted as we are, Hebrews 4:15. He was made flesh for the suffering of death, Hebrews 2:9.
2 Cor. 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Jesus had a will of his own but was obedient to the Father, Luke 22:42. Jesus did the works of the Father, John 5:36. Jesus was sent by the Father, John 4:34 John 7:16. Jesus did all the miracles by the Spirit of God that was given to Him without measure, Matt. 12:28 John 3:34, when He was anointed at the Jordan, Mark 1:10 Luke 4:18.
I hope this is correct forgive me if I am wrong. The Father is God but is not the Son and is not the Holy Spirit. The Son is God but is not the Father and is not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God but is not the Father and is not the Son. One God is three coexistent, co-eternal, and co-equal Persons.
If I may ask. If they are three persons, who is the Father of Jesus the Son of God? Matt. 1:18 Luke 1:35. Jesus many times said He has a God and a Father, Matt. 7:21 Matt. 12:50 John 20:17 2 Cor. 11:31 Ephesians 1:3 1 Peter 1:3. Jesus came in His Father's name, John 5:43.
My understanding, this is not a mystery that cannot be understood. God is a Spirit, John 4:24 It is His Spirit that dwelleth in us, 1 Cor. 3:16 1 Corinthians 2:10-12. God is Spirit, God is Holy. It is the Spirit of God that is the Holy Spirit.
Paul never used the Holy Spirit in his salutations. Jesus was begotten by His Father, Heb. 1:5. Jesus said His Father was greater than He John 14:28. Rev. 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
God bless,
