I think it is funny how many people just shrug off the fact that this is JESUS speaking to us. We go straight to Paul's teachings all the time and forget about anything Jesus has said. This verse is metaphorically speaking of a form of communion. We are to take of the flesh and blood of Christ which is to read His Word, eat the bread of life, and to drink of his blood, the Holy Spirit and spring of living water that cleanses us from our sins. For our example is Christ and he spoke of obedience to His words and examples, not just expecting grace and His death to do it all. If this was the case then why did He even die on the cross. Our Father God could have just said, "I accept them all" and done away with hell all together. God Bless.

i think that the humble ones are seen as weak, but God the heavenly father delight in them to reveal the things of His kingdom for the meek to profit. Humility is all that one requires to forgive his offenders.

Only when we see our desperate need for our Father in Heaven and his provision for us "Jesus Christ" can we receive all the good that he has in store for us. Jesus said he is the bread of life, and to the women at the well he said if you drink of my water you will not thirst. Accepting him in all his fullness.

To be poor in spirit I think means those who always want to learn more of the word of God daily, who feels is a work in progress and needs to study the word of God daily to be fulfilled and rely solely on God for divine direction in all areas of life, humbling thy self and not thinking that he or she knows more or is better than any other.Thanks.

salt was is mined. interestingly enough, the saltiest salt is nearest the core, or vein. the less savoury is outer layers and closer to the elements. quite an analogy of the christian life do you not think?

Verse 17 Jesus Said he did not come to destroy but to fulfill Luke 24: 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in psalms, concerning me. He fulfilled the law of sacrifice because he was the perfect sacrifice. Till heaven and earth pass

To the woman who said she prefers the NT to the OT, Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him." Read: Matthew 5:8, Proverbs 21:8, Titus 1:15.

This is amazing, after being baptized, tempted by the devil while fasting, this is the first thing he had to say after coming out of the wilderness. These are all commandments and revelation of the kingdom of heaven to men. We see here that righteousness is more than being good and treating other good people well. But righteousness is loving, forgiving, and serving those we feel don't deserve it.

What beautiful teachings of holiness Christ revealed to the crowd and the boldness he proclaimed to the Scribes and Pharisees about the life of a follower of Christ. It is holiness or hell regardless of our thoughts and we can live perfect through obedience to His Word. Rightly dividing what being perfect is has always been controversial. Yes we can be overcome but we do not continue in sin.

Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

And i've read all in the Bible. There's no words or Jesus never said in the Bible "I AM GOD" or "WORSHIP ME". And Jesus followers in the Bible called Jesus as a Master, not Lord. Hope anyone can tell me about this. Tq

responds to Shiyam; the LORD was, as I understand it, saying that if you walk in the path set forth through Jesus, that you may/will become children of the LORD. Jesus showed us the truth, the way and the life ( John 14:6) - how's that sound to you?
  • Shiyam on Matthew 5 - 9 years ago
45 says that one might be the son if follow teachngs..
so how can one become equal to Jesus, who is called the lord.?
  • Joshua on Deuteronomy 6 - 9 years ago
No in Deuteronomy 6:13 You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and swear i.e. "obeying" by His name. Now go to Luke 4:8, and Jesus answered and said to him, Get you behind Me, satan : for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and only Him shall you serve. Matt 4:10 leads to Deuteronomy 6:13. Matthew 5:34 is not in the same context as Deuteronomy, read Matthew 5:33-37.

Christ Jesus makes it clear that if a married women is put away she cant remarry under any circumstance, unless she becomes a widow. A woman should choose her husband wisely,a women should marry a man she feels will love her as he loves his self, and cherish her.

I would go by grace , but remember Jesus even said he did not come to change the law of old so most of the old testament still stands .
  • Kanakasusheela on Matthew 5 - 9 years ago
There is a lot of difference between the God's laws of ten commandments in Old Testament ,and the 'Sermon on the mount' in New Testament. Here the teaching of Jesus is completely with abundant love , grace and kindness. He wanted to save every one of the Humanity . If all can understand the inner meaning of this message ,There are no quarrels in the families , and there are no wars between the countries, and every where there is peace and harmony . and every one can believe Jesus, and He is the only God of the universe , and we all praise him and glorify him .and there is no sin , and there are no curses, and there is no satan power in this world . And God bless us with power of holy spirit , so that we can over come satan power. Matthew 5: as per this , this is the dream of God, to be the world is like this .
  • Eaglesrock on Matthew 5 - 9 years ago
Bro Davis if works can not save us how can bad works unsave us. By Grace are you saved by Faith, not of works. Christ has redeemed us from the law. We are not under the law but grace. The purpose of the law was our school master to show us it is impossible to keep the law 615 it pointed to Christ. Old testament is Law, New Testament is Grace. Old Testament is about God, New Testament about Christ. Old testament about a Nation, New Testament about a Person-Jesus Christ. Christ has become of no affect to you who are under the Law are not under Grace. What will it be Law? or Grace? I choose grace.
